When Pentatonix first did the arrangement for this duet, they had intended for Dolly to sing the lead throughout, but she absolutely INSISTED that they take the lead on one verse. I've had the opportunity in my TV/video production career to meet Dolly on several occasions, and she is one of the sweetest, most genuine, and downright funny person I have ever met!!
I've never heard a person ever say they did not like Dolly Parton. Dolly is such a bright human being she's awesome 👍
I love this version of this song. Avis low while everyone's singing the chorus is my favourite !
It was fun. The Grammy was unexpected for country duo performance for everyone I think because neither Dolly nor Pentatonix sent anyone to the actual award ceremony announcement although Pentatonix appeared later at the awards show.
Dolly Parton is like the Betty White of Country Music if that makes sense ha 🎶 😄

I love how you can hear Scott’s voice when his little solo starts, then you can hear Kirstie jump in, but then when Mitch comes in… it literally sounds like Kirstie’s voice is like doubled or something, it makes the most beautiful sound 😍

The reason I love the second part of this is that Dolly as BACKGROUND is also awesome. Scott in lead gives Dolly the chance to add a new background part that never existed for this song before.

I've always loved this arrangement, but what just GETS me every time is Dolly's joyful little bounce at the end, and the big smiles. Seeing artists having a blast doing what they do is life.

PTX originally brought Dolly an arrangement where she sang lead throughout, but she insisted that they take lead on at least one verse.
Thank you for reactions that add to our understanding and appreciation of the songs. You clearly love Avi’s bass tone, but I don’t see any reactions to his newer songs. Have you heard First Place I Go yet?

Certainly not my kinda thing, but it was very well done; quite enjoyable. Nothing like stepping outside your skin to get exposure to new things. It also helps to see someone enjoy it to help get a sense of where we are (musically, to me Im far far from home but Beth is handing out sextants)

Yes, Avi is great here and it is a shame that he quit the group. However, it has all worked out since he has a good solo career and his replacement, Matt, really fits and blends in well with the group. Everyone wins.

Before he replaced Avi, Matt was in The House Jacks, where he had replaced Elliott Robinson, one of the former basses of Home Free who are good friends with Avi. In an interview, Elliott says that bass singers are handed back and forth and around between a capella groups. 😃
Since you like Dolly Parton, you should react to the group Trio from the 80's. It was Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and EmmyLou Harris together. They made some really beautiful music together. You won't be disappointed.

Yo Beth, can you do me a favor and check out Boney M. a bit? I practically grew up with that band.
I like this song but don't love it. Part of that is because I feel that way about the original as well. But mostly because, except for about 15 seconds, this is still a Dolly Parton song, just with Pentatonix singing background. They probably loved working with here, but I really wanted more from the collaboration.
