my hedgie sometimes does this everytime im about to pick him up from his cage, i usually just introduce my hand to him first letting it near his nose so he can smell me, he usually uncurls after that knowing its me then i can pick him up
I interacted with a hedgehog for the first time last night, and it kinda blew my mind. It doesn't seem real. When it's hugging, it literally sounds like a mechanical machine.
It does sound like a machine. Keep in mind the huffing and puffing is an indication they are trying to tell you to buzz off or go away because they are acting big and bad. They are communicating they are scared and annoyed. The goal is not to scare or annoy them but sometimes it is necessary. If we annoy them to get them out of the cage or to keep them safe that is normal and perfectly fine but the goal is to keep the huffing and puffing at a minimum.
This is great! There are so many videos out there telling people to just pick them up and flip them around and stuff to 'socialise' them when they're just scared lil fellas, so it's good to see one telling people to do the right thing.
i mean.....there isn't a "right" way for every hedgehog. Now flipping them around? never heard someone suggesting that head on (that does seems too agressive for the first few days), but you can indeed hold them from below with both hands and let them uncurl while feelling safe and warm against your chest.
Ohmygoodness~! She’s awfully prickly isn’t she?? ❤️ could be a grouchy morning hedgie tho. Or still getting accustomed to her new human and/or home. Either way, sounds like she has a very patient and knowledgeable human, so I’m happy for her. Also also: she’s so adorable!! Look at that badger face!! 🖤🤍🖤
ahhh i picked a hedgehog of the road making these kinda noises... gave him a carrot and put him on the grass nearby ... i was so worried :( he was just mad that i picked him up to save his life .. they are one of my favorite animals
Hedgehogs are cute & fascinating animals that need to be properly understood. They're very skittish everything scares them they're solitary preferring their own company if you don't mind having a cute little animal that you can't do much with then a hedgehog could be a pet for you.
ive had my hedgehog for about a month and a half and she still huffs and bites. is it normal for a hedgehog to take a really long time to get used to the environment or maybe im doing something wrong??
@@watchensee shes warmed up a lot and ive been able to play with her with less and less hesitation:) she loves bathtime and getting lots of time to run around and explore!
I am not sure what you mean by "too stupid". Mot of the time I work with owners to better understand normal hedgehog behavior and what is scary and/or annoying to the hedgehog. I see the best hedgehog behavior when it feels safe and comfortable.
Someone who calls an animal stupid is generally a pathetic person who doesn't deserve them as pets! You automatically lose by calling an animal stupid because you are supposed to be the intelligent one! Basically what you are implying is that you are inpatient and don't have what it takes to properly care for an animal, you just like the thought of being in control and because you cannot control a hedgehog your head broke and now because of your own stupid expectations you call an innocent animal that is terrified of you and trying to hide from you stupid! Look who the stupid one is now!

I heard huffing one night and thought it was my cat being sick, turns out it was a couple of hedgehogs huffing over territory, I left them to it.
What a cute hedgehog 🦔

I saw a big hedgie close to me. I was scared but i do love them at the same time.

To be fair, if someone came and shook me out of my bed and covers I'd be a little torked off myself >:(

Amy rose with rtx on
Even better: let her go out of her nest / bag / ... on her own.
Exactly!
Some people like to interact with their hedgehogs during the day and they're nocturnal soo... they don't willingly come out lmao!

Bites? I have never had one before so I'm curious as to how hard they bite. Do they break the skin?
@@rcrinsea mine doesn’t. it usually feels like a quill poke so its not super aggressive but i think shes just nervous.
@@martiade0 Have you had any luck with your hedgehog yet?

what should one do if his hedgehog is too stupid
