- I bought a badly wrecked 2014 F150 from the salvage auction and now I’m going to try to rebuild it! This is part 1 of this series, and in this video I give a walk around and overview of the truck, and then start the tear-down so I can get it to the frame shop. Can it be saved? Stayed tuned to every episode to find out!

Stay tuned for more videos coming soon! I’ve got more videos soon. I’ve got another video or two on wrapping up the Interceptor rebuild, the F150 rebuild, Part 3 of the Camry engine swap (finished it up!), finishing up the rebuild on the Mercedes W211 E320, the cheap Jag project, and more. I also have more salvage rebuild projects coming soon as well!

That one is pretty rough. Glad you got a body shop friend. That makes a BIG difference. After seeing your interceptor videos I know you got this covered. Thanks for the great videos Stephen! Look forward to this one!
Thank you!! Really appreciate that. And yes, makes a huge difference having a frame guy!!
The ford trucks look so good. Look forward to seeing it back to its original shape! Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I’m a big fan of the Ford trucks too. Can’t wait to share the progress we’ve made soon!
You my friend, have a lot of work ahead of you. However I am 100% confident that she can be resurrected! You have my full support! 👍 I can’t wait to see the progress! I wish I could have a house soon to have space in order to do the same work. 🙏 great job! 🤜🤛
Thanks! Excited to get into this one!! Didn’t I remember you were moving soon? Will you have a house where you can work after the move?
Crossroads Rebuild yes! Unfortunately C-19 put a pause and a financial pause on a lot of things. But I’m stating optimistic despite not having work since March 15!
Man, sorry to hear you’ve been out of work! I sure hope things start getting back to normal soon & people can get on with their lives!!
Great rebuild!!! You are amazing and do an amazing job!!!! I love it!! Keep up the great work!!!!
Thank you!!
Like always exellent work my friend... You seem to get better as a New build arrives. We cant wait for the next video and frame work. Glad to see you back bud, shout out to you from México..
Thank you! Always enjoying seeing your comments from Mexico!
That shouldn't be too terrible. If I remember correctly that ruby red paint is a tinted clear coat so you might be a little shocked when you get the materials bill for the paint supplies but other than that I don't see why the truck cant be saved. Looking forward to the progress on this for sure! Nice video!!
yeah, I'm thinking this is more of a sheet metal replacement fix, with some underlying structural damage. But the skeleton of the truck should be okay, and no frame damage.
Thank you! This is actually not Ruby Red (although my parts truck that you haven’t seen yet is). This is a color called Sunset Metallic. 2014 was the only year of that color on this body style, so finding parts in that color is difficult. But, to your point... the paint for this color is quite expensive as well! 🤦♂️
Very little underlying damage other than what you can see in the front right apron. I’ll get into more of what Jack found under the surface in the next vid on this truck.
Dude - my friend I have rebuilt like 6 or 8 cars in the last year (BMW M4, VW GT’s, Audi A7) for fun. And that F150 is a crazy amount of work. I am sure your friend helps you pick your vehicles but that is heck of a mess. Hopefully you got it cheap enough. Good luck!
Sounds like you stay very busy! I don’t really have anyone help me choose vehicles, but I do sometimes consult with Jack on his thoughts on the repairs. I got a great deal on this truck. That combined with the lack of airbags blown is what drew me to it. I don’t mind the work to bring her back!
No airbags blown......I'm thinking maybe the truck was shut off and parked when it was hit. It's my understanding that bags won't blow if no key is in the ignition....or push button start is in the off position. Just a guess. Good to see you back, Stephen.
This is an interesting theory... I tend to think it was running based on the Carfax. It says in was side swiped (drivers side) and then impact with another vehicle (front right). But I can’t explain the lack of airbags. My BMW didn’t blow any bags either. 🤷♂️
Anyway, excited to get into it!! Thank you for watching!!
I am so happy I found this channel. I started watching with the Fusion. You sir are definitely doing great things. These videos are therapeutic to watch!
Haha! Thank you so much. I appreciate your enthusiasm and support!!
This is quite a big project. Looking forward to watching.
Thank you! It’s gonna be a lot of work, but I’m stoked for this one!
Excited for this one!
Thanks! Me too! So excited to have a full-sized truck again!!
Dang, she took quite a hit. I wonder if you will have to section in a portion of the cab to get it fixed. I've been told aluminum body vehicles tear instead of straightening when it is being pulled. Don't know if it is true, but I guess we will find out.
Yes, she took quite a beating! This is actually the last year of the steel body trucks, so that’s helpful. But you are absolutely correct about aluminum.
Awesome! Looking forward to seeing this one to get started.
Great project lots of things to do and learn from. Where do you find your car?
I'm also from Indiana, up north.
Thank you! Looking forward to this one as well.
I find my cars usually at Copart or IAA.
Good airbag are probably because the car was sideswiped when parked on the side of the road with nobody inside.
Not sure, but that’s certainly possible.
Actually doesn't look that bad! Is it a 5.4? Out of experience, I reccomend to swap that trans cooler for a bigger one.
This has the 5.0 coyote V8 in it. I’ll look into the upgraded trans cooler. Thx for the tip!
@@CrossroadsRebuild good thing it's not a 5.4 My dad has a 14 expedition and had to spend about 5k replacing timing, fasers and oil pump at less than 30k miles.
you will need a bigger driveway soon.
Haha! For sure!
First
Wasn't 2014 the last year of steel body?
Yes it was! Don’t think for a minute that that’s a coincidence that I got this one!! 😉
Got a question. We are currently rebuilding a similar f150. How did you replace your fender apron tubes? Did you remove the dash to get to them?
My truck is actually still in the frame repair shop. I’ll be covering what we ended up doing to mine in the next vid on the F150. But the gist of it is that if you want to remove and replace the whole thing, it looks like you’d have to remove the dash and possibly part of the cowl as well. Ford has done some really tricky welding and assembly on these things which makes it very difficult to repair.
There are two places where the apron tube connects into the body of the truck. The lower one can easily be removed by drilling out the spot welds. It is the upper one which is nearly impossible to access. So we ended up sectioning the upper tube near the cowl and attaching the donor to the remaining original. Not sure if that explains it well, but I will try to go over that in an upcoming vid as well.
If you have additional questions feel free to send me an email. My address is in the description below each video.
@@CrossroadsRebuild thank you so much for your quick reply. This is what we are afraid of. Thank you so much for the help on this. We will mention your channel in our next video when we do the apron.
You’re so welcome! I just got done watching your most recent two vids (and subscribed of course!) on your new F150 build. Looks like a beautiful truck! I look forward to following along as you rebuild it.
When I got mine I searched high and low for a video showing how to repair or replace the apron tubes and came up with nothing. So hopefully our two channels will help people in the future.
I appreciate any shout out you give me on your channel. I will try to remember to do the same for you as I think you guys are doing good work and are entertaining to watch. Wish I had a partner to work with on all my builds!
@@CrossroadsRebuild exactly. We have not found anything that speaks clearly about the apron repair process. Its an amazing truck and we are excited about rebuilding it. We just sold our first build the "silver bullet" having a partner makes it alot of fun for sure. Thanks for the sub and views. Greatly appreciated. I saw your wife in the truck video. You should get her on with you. Diy gang does it and its a great dynamic.
Congrats on selling your first F150! My wife has helped me at times, but she works full time with her own business, and her hours are usually different than mine. So it’s hard to have her help. Love it when she’s able to do though!
Keep up the great work!!
I just think that truck is to far gone. That truck needs a lot of work and it going to be expensive. My opinion is I think you should just go on Copart and bid on a newer ford truck
Hey, I respect that opinion! And I don’t fault anyone for thinking that. But I like a challenge and I also enjoy bringing something back that initially looks really bad. I actually bought this truck on purpose because it is the last year of the steel body Fords. From 2015 and on they’re aluminum. They’re super nice trucks, but much harder and much more expensive to fix!!
Anyway, I hope you’re able to enjoy the Rebuild series! Thx for watching!!
@@CrossroadsRebuild I'm not going anywhere. That why I'm a ram guy
You need to watch Arthur tussik this truck is just a fender bender compared to what Arthur does. Lol
