  • Traveling through beautiful South Dakota you ll see many unexpected things. I check out some cute Prairie Dogs and then travel into The Badlands. From there, its northward to Wall Drug to see the 80 foot dinosaur. Then I travel across the state to Rapid City and explore the Art Alley graffiti walls. Finally I stop off at a section of the Berlin Wall, right in South Dakota!

      Mobile Instinct actually you have to have a permit to do the graffiti. It is constantly changing. The Art council over sees the alley and permits. www.artalleyrc.com

    I lived in W. Berlin from 1973-1975. I was a 17yr old new military wife married to an M.P. in the Army. He worked at some very historic places, one being Checkpoint Charlie. I visited him once and was able to go upstairs in a building with binoculars and watch the guards in the East tower across from me. He was also watching me. He was a young guy so I waved at him a little and when I looked back he looked very threatening and he had his gun ready. Talk about chills! I went back down into the Checkpoint. We used to go up to the wall and take pics. At some "crossing spots" there where memorials and flowers for the people who didn't make it across. My husband told me that every time we stood near the wall there were guns aimed at us. It was very different than it is now. So serious. Some of the old German people would glare at us Americans. Luckily I usually had my little baby with me and they would smile. Anyway, I'm loving your videos. Stay safe. You sure put yourself in perilous situations but your videos are so fascinating and awesome! Gale

    Did you get to see Wall Drug? One of the biggest "drug stores" ever! I've been there a few times, the first time about 1967 or so. It was packed wall to wall (pun intended) with people. I don't think they had built the dinosaur yet though. Oh, and the prairie dogs live in "prairie dog towns", not farms. 🤣

    I never knew there was a place called Badlands, and i can see why they call it that. I can't imagine on building houses or anything on that weak ground. it kinda looked like sand. the guy walking the skeleton of t Rex was really neat. I also didn't know pieces of that wall was saved. thanks for sharing. keep up the great work bud.

      @MobileInstinct  Před 7 lety

      Yeah its an interesting land for sure. I believe robbers and criminals used to hide out down in there. Probably not the safest of places to be back then. Yeah man that skeleton was just on the side of the road. There is some amazing "road art" out that way

    I like watching your videos on old abandoned places but I also love these vlog type of videos too, where you’re stoping at places along the way and you’re showing video of the drive itself.
    It helps us picture where you’re at.
    Please start including that kind of stuff in all your videos.
    You’re videos are nice showing the old places, but please also show the drive to the places, show the road side attractions on the way to the old place or the pretty drive you take to get there
    Anyway, thank you.

    I never touched the Berlin Wall but I rem mover when it was torn down. I was 24. Hey, in your travels, have you seen the state's at Fredrik Meijer Gardens? It's not far from me, in Grand Rapids, MI. There's a 50ft tall bronze horse, a spider, shout as tall, complete with egg sac (walk under it, between its legs!), a giant shovel, & more. The children's garden gas a giant beaver. It's been a while since I've toured the gardens. I usually visit in April, when the butterflies are hatched in their butterfly house. Gorgeous butterflies from Africa & Asia.
    It's in the city, so you can get a bite to eat afterwards! Lol!

      I remember awhile back the Chinese or Japanese (*edited to add that it is the Japanese) just loved prairie dogs and wanted them for pets. It was quite the rage. And there was a rumour that after a few people got bit they found a new delicacy and that prairie dogs tasted good.

    I live in Rapid City, S.D. and the city sanctioned that section of alley ways for the purpose of Urban Artwork. It started when the city decided to "Rejuvenate" our downtown scene and during the summer we have a one night festival every Thursday from June to August, it's called the Summer Nights Festival. It allows tourists the chance to see the artwork as they Cris-cross back and forth to the separate streets on either side that will be filled with Food Vendors, Beer Tents ,people selling Native American Jewelry and other trinkets with a Live Bands playing in the streets.
    But everyone here in Rapid knows that Art Alley is open to the public and most people that hang out down there are the hipsters, the homeless and the local artists.
    Lol, those people were probably watching you record in the alley out of curiosity. We don't have a whole lot of people in our little town that make videos for youtube. :D
