Thanks Austin. I have never thought about "what do I want my melody to do?!" Typically I have written melodies and not ever thought about if they should be introspective, or explosive and what emotion I want to evoke with it. Also love how you said "less is more" in big melodies! Very helpful.

Great style and instincts. There is so much more guidance that the music can give to us if we know where to look: thirds, guide tones, target notes, harmony. The other chords in the progression have so much to tell us! Definitely keep up your studies

I've been putting of this video for weeks now. But, I'm glad I finally watched it! This is great info. Recently, I purchased the exclusive rights to a beat and have been trying a bunch of different singing styles & melodies over it. After one unsuccessful & expensive recording session I knew I had to change a few things. My friend gave it a listen & said it was too repetitive. He was right! I changed the verses from singing to rapping and sang during the hooks. We'll see how this 2nd expensive recording session goes! Thanks for the video

what would be cool is if you did a video on the science behind what makes a melody // sound memorable. sometimes i will write stems and little 8 bar loops and i will actually forget what it sounds like even though I've worked on it all day. i wonder if it has to do with the pitch and frequency, cuz i can remember a lot of the higher pitched melodies i write. i also wonder if there are certain timbres and qualities that stick in peoples minds.. but I'm really just trying to figure out what makes a song//sound//melody so memorable and addictive..

    Hi Mr. Austin.
My name is Orrin Bynum. I just started to watch your videos for the last few weeks. I’ve enjoyed them very much. You are a very talented young man. I am very impressed with your musical works. I am a retired postal worker and a retired Choir/Director/Musician and I am 66 years old. I am working on my bucket list at the moment and I want to put a song out some time this year or next year. I am learning how to use Cubase Pro 11 and I am a little slow at it but very determined. I’m hoping that you can give me some advice. Will you please share with me how you make your vocals sound so professional and tell me what plug-ins you use to make your vocals sound so great. I have also noticed that you young guys use these Fabfilter Pro C2 and Fabfilter Pro Q3 plug-ins and I would like to get a third Fabfilter plug-in. So could you also recommend the 3rd Fabfilter plug-in for me to use as well? I want to have my music sounding wonderful just like yours. More that anything I really want my vocals to stand out very well. So please, please help me with your recommendations at your earliest convenience. One last thing. Could you also give me some pointers on what I can do to learn how to use those plug-ins for compression, EQ’s , saturation and reverbs.
Any consideration given to request would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, Please let me know that you have received this email. I am learning how to get better at using my MacBook Pro as well. My email address is (orrinbynum@gmail.com).
