This show is beautiful to me. I used to work with mental handicapped individuals (in homes) and I know plenty of people who face other “functional” disabilities. One thing that pisses me off is how often people with all kinds of disabilities, especially autism, are automatically assumed to be stupid or slow. Even my clients who lived in home due to their severe, non functional disabilities, they’re still such amazing people capable of a lot. They just navigate life differently than us. Likely more so than any other, Autism is a spectrum. It’s important to develop care for those who are lower functioning to improve their lives, but also important to remember not everyone with Autism (among other disorders) struggles that way and some possess incredible intelligence. It’s a major lesson to people that you should never assume someone’s capabilities based off your perceived notions of a condition.
I completely agree. When I was applying for social security disability, they made me see a shrink. He read my file and was aggressive. I told him I have severe anxiety and fear of being yelled at or judged with my ptsd and autism being triggered by raised voices. He talked to me like I was stupid the whole time with a loud stern voice. I was curled up on my chair, arms around my knees stimming. He put in the report I was well below average intelligence. The judge told me that and said it was extremely unprofessional and they aren't supposed to put opinions like that into the report since he did no tests for intelligence other than the word memory thing which I got right. Judge also said I was obviously intelligent just had mental trauma and issues. I got my disability (based 50% on mental health and 50% on having had 19 procedures on my dominant hand when all I knew was cashiering and computer work plus a chronic pain and fatigue autoimmune disorder) I was so pissed off since my intelligence is the one thing about me I was always proud of. I took the mensa test( even though I dislike IQ tests since they are inherently racist) got into mensa, made an appt with that shrink and with my bf holding my hand walked in showed him my mensa card told him I have a 159 IQ and he can take his opinion of me being below average intelligence and shove it up his ass. No matter how smart someone is, if they have autism, people are not going to treat them as if they're smarter then themselves. So personally I think a huge part of the plot is genuinely about the stigma around autism causing people to ignore or mistreat him as a doctor.

I don't care if he's an idiot savant, give me a good doctor who stays calm under pressure. In real life, a guy like that would kill me as quickly as he would save me, and all it would take is a mood swing.
@shawnwolvin9200 try watching the show the very first episode alone he saves a boy with a shard of glass in his neck. He knows that a donation liver has a problem even when the other doc doesn't believe him. He correctly diagnoses patient after patient advising the correct procedures even when they ignore him because of his autism he is proven right over and over. Just cause you watch the freak out clips and make retard assumptions based on that doesn't change the fact that in the show he is arguably the absolute best doctor period
@@shawnwolvin9200wow, just wow!!!! You based your opinion on the show by watching “clips”Wicked intelligent😂
@@kathyweddle4874 lol. Kathy, let's take just a moment to consider why people watch clips of shows. It's so people can be introduced to a show before watching it, that way, they can get an idea of whether or not the show is good and if they will like it. That's called, wait for it... An opinion!
If someone watches clips of a show, and every single clip they see showcases the exact same problem, why would they have any interest in the show?
You should probably think things through before you speak, less chance of looking stupid that way.
been watching this show with my mom since it came out, definitely recommend (The Good Doctor on ABC)
Remember guys he is A SURGEON.
This shows you how insensitive the medical field and they can't be trusted at any time with your personal care
Huh?
It’s a tv show ffs… it’s made up!
Sounds like you’re very insecure.. you should work on that bud, but don’t mix the real world with a fictional tv show or you’ll never trust anything ever again if you watch enough tv lol
It’s television

When the show started to be focusing on love life instead of Shaun's journey to be a great surgeon, I drop it. It was a great show when it last tho, I just don't like the love life plot.
I fell bad for Shaun and i hope he wakes up from his coma
