Great video, liked the complete build in one take. Your knowledge and attention to detail is impressive. I've always been partial to the 351C... had a Cleveland powered 70 Mustang back in the day and was always impressed its capability to put a smile on my face. Loved the way it sounded at idle and just a right-foot press away from roasting the tires!
Had a 71 Mach 1 with an M code 351C 4V and a 4 speed. Great engines. Great looking stock or modified. Like the format of this video as well as the others you do. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Excellent narrating excellent rebuild and I learned alot especially using gasket maker instead of the rubber seals in front and behind the oil pan those things always seem to be problematic thanks so much for being so detailed
I have a bare, 71 351c cobrajet block that's been bored .030 over and all the machine work done. And a set of 70 4bbl closed chamber heads, factory, untouched, complete. I also have a 2bbl 351c block, complete that's going to be the doner for everything else. I do like the upgrade to those Eagle rods. And those pistons look yummy. Like Christmas candy! Would you mind sharing the specs on the camshaft and curve specs for the distributor? I like how, in the dyno room, reality warps as that Cleveland devours the atmosphere and tries to ingest everything else around it! Excellent video, very meticulous build and attention to detail. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
Great content! I'm a bit puzzled as to why those finned aluminum valve covers were not used? They were stock on the higher performance Clevelands and they looked excellent when cleaned up or even polished. Thanks again!
Love the Cleveland content. Great video. I have a 400 Ford in my restored 77 f 150. I hope you build one of those at some point. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I just found a 351 Cleveland in the back of my storage totally thought it was a 400 for the last 2 years I was hoarding for a truck I never bought . Now I just need the 69 fastback mustang. Thanks for sharing your build!
I'm in the UK. I love Clevelands. I have 2 of them in my Brit cars. A Rover P5b Coupe and Ford Mk5 Cortina. Love your vids too, great attention to detail 👍👌
Thanks for the great presentation on the Cleveland build. Presentl I am building a BOSS 302. It came to me broken, detonation blew out two porcelain sections from Sparkplugs. It will be apart after Christmas. Damage🥶🥶it’s a 13/1 previous road race engine.
Nice build, and that torque is amazing considering a compression ratio in the 9’s. Have you heard anything back from Jay about his heads? Happy Holidays!!
when i was a boy my dad had a junk yard,i quickly got into the FEengines.dad liked fords and had a lot of them.i had-still have a 66 comet 390 4 speed now 428.i ended up with 5 comets.i had one 67 that had a 351c 4bbl intake no carb on it.i was young and did not know what i had.a buddy said what do you want for the heads off the 351c.i said you can have them,i like 390s.when he took those heads off i saw the giant valves and ports and i thought wow i messed up giving those away.never had a 351 running in anything so i just did not know what i had.
hi great video, love the clevos, have had a couple over the years allways run hard.looks to have the incorrect thermostat, that will allways make it run hot, needs a robert shaw 333
So many questions here: 1. What HP level is the block good for - with and without filling the block 2. What RPM is the stock crank and the stock rods good to - balanced with arp fasteners - rod and main bolts? 3. Since transport might be an issue for some of us to ship an engine to you, would you be able to either put together a kit or provide guidance for a kit (for a fee) to achieve a power/ rpm level? Personally my goal is 600 - 650 hp at 6600-7000 - and a safe redline (not prolonged at that rpm) of 7500. 4. At this level, are the as cast '70 closed chamber heads fine?
Hi Brent, you mentioned that you installed bronze guides so that you could use viton seals, which got me thinking! I'm using viton seals on my 400+ hp 306ci sbf with cast iron heads/cast iron guides......is this a problem? do you always install bronze guides in iron heads? Thanks, Dave
It's not a problem. I always install bronze guides because factory stuff is generally worn out by the time I get it and there are more spring locator/cup choices for common bronze valve guide diameters.
What do you about this I built mine 1971 block stock crank a rods Keith black pistons 8 cc dome 2 v stock heads about 10.1 cam is a flat tappet hydraulic Lift: .513 / .536, Duration @ .050 215-225 with a 112 separation Howard’s cam 670 brawler with a air gap intake hei ignition
Not too bad not too bad I think your combination should have made a little bit more horsepower I've been working with an engine builder at home in the Moody Ford from the 60s 70s make a lot more horsepower out of a motor like that than what you did I don't know what you're aiming for basically you just rebuild a stock engine with a good set of rods
Well that’s kinda the jist of all engines….of course they won’t last if they don’t have good oiling 😂 This one will do just fine though. I have Clevelands that turn about 2000 rpm higher than this one….
I am very curious about your piston design choice here. I see its just a simple dished piston, not a inverted dome or whatever they are called when the dish is just on one side. Maybey you could make a video about this? What im curious about is quench, or with this piston choice, lack there of. When using a dish puston like you have here doesnt quench go out the window? I have a bbf that is 504 ci with dished pistons like the ones shown here & i have been thinking about finding different ones so i can take advantage of quench. However with my D0VE-C heads its hard to do & keep compression down on a streetable level. Maybey you could straighten me out on this theory? Is quench not as important as im making it out to be??
335 content is always welcome
Agreed 100% 400 and 351 ms too
Cheers to that brother. Not many know what 335 means anymore
Good work.
Perfect build my man.
Cleveland sounds are absolutely unique in the engine world and a world beater as we all know. Thanks Brent!

All hail, the king of the era in smaller displacement V8s

Love the channel Brent. Merry Christmas and hope you feel better....
Thanks Brent.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Still my fav engine family. Impressive work!

I enjoyed the video format.
That was a pretty sweet Cleveland at 430hp.
Merry Christmas 🎅
And Happy New year to you Brent.
Some science involved. Good work. I have a 351C 4V closed-chambers. They made a lot of these so parts are available. T/A dna is def in these heads.
A sweet build … great video , enjoy your Christmas break . Cheers
I've been a 351C and 400M person since mid 80"s. Good stuff thank you.
Great video. Would love to see more Cleveland content
351C, 429-460 more more more.
Thanks for taking the time posting these videos.
Love them.
Merry Christmas

Thanks for the video Brent!! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!
fantastic video on tons of information
I love these 351clevelands too, that's an awesome build , and great numbers too, thanks for the video 💯💯💯
Definitely show more Cleveland build/dynamic. Happy Holiday's 💪🏿!
I'm in the UK. I love Clevelands. I have 2 of them in my Brit cars. A Rover P5b Coupe and Ford Mk5 Cortina. Love your vids too, great attention to detail 👍👌
Love the Cleveland stuff was good to watch and see what they can really do with not much like you said just the right camshaft and machining process
Awesome work
Oh , and have a Merry Christmas 🎅 and a happy New Year 😊
Purely from a selfish point, I will take all the Cleveland stuff you will give lol.
Merry Christmas to you and yours. Thanks for all you share.
Cleveland’s rock merry Christmas Brent👍🏼
Very cool. I’m referencing it on my Cleveland.

I like the build recap videos.
The Aussies have excellent Cleveland equipment,, they are still hardcore Cleveland builders in Australia
Think you should do one for every engine you build. I enjoyed it!
Nice build, and that torque is amazing considering a compression ratio in the 9’s.

merry Christmas AND A SHOT OF BRANDY will help that cold
I would like some advice on choosing a over the counter cam for my 1970 4V cleavland
hi great video, love the clevos, have had a couple over the years allways run hard.looks to have the incorrect thermostat, that will allways make it run hot, needs a robert shaw 333
There was no thermostat in this video….i don’t install them.
Cleveland’s rock! 😎
GREAT VID AS ALWAYS , WHAT DOES A BUILD LIKE THAT COST IN GENERAL TERMS?
Great video! Keep the 335 content coming. Awesome build. More power than I expected.
Merry Christmas!....😉
Can you give a part number for the cam you used? And comp ratio did you end up with?
That's a Dblock here in Australia there worth big coins
Merry Christmas Brent and family. Are you seeing any cam and lifter failures with the cams that you get made for your customers TIA
Zero.
Good god that would have been a killer installed in a 70 running around in the late 70s looking like nothing....

How about some cam talk !!
The motor in the video a 430 + horse what would it take to get it to 500

Unless this C engine has perfect oiling, it won't last long at higher rpms for any extended length of time.
Well that’s kinda the jist of all engines….of course they won’t last if they don’t have good oiling 😂 This one will do just fine though. I have Clevelands that turn about 2000 rpm higher than this one….

Even a full bowl can have quench. All pistons have a quench band around the circumference and a dish will actually cause swirl.
.
Now a little shot of NOS to really wake er up
Clevelands are a dismal failure. Ive had one for 20 years.
