  • A tale of two Attessas One is simple and straightforward. The other is a bit more well-rounded. Both are beautiful. Both are well put together. Both are capable of delivering great sound. Both are worth a listen.
This is was supposed to be a review of the Roksan Atessa Integrated amp. It was for a short time, but I was surprised to get to also review the streaming amp.
***** I experimented with a different mic this time and the results are not awesome. I hope to have the audio issue fixed in the coming reviews. Thanks for your patience!

I didn't know much about this until my brother bought one for his b&w 704 s2 he absolutely love it and so do I. I told him it's the best amp his ever had better than his marantz 40n. Worth double my powernode

I'm TOTALLY with you on the issue of missing tone controls. For those who aren't bothered, great. But I personally like to adjust the sound of certain recordings to my tastes if I feel they are lacking bass or treble. Why not include the controls as well as a bypass button so that every listener gets what they need? Deal breaker, indeed. Unfortunately, many of the newer models are going this direction.

Yay! A like minded soul! I knew I couldn’t be the only one!

I personally don't mess with tone controls or eq I rather leave it to sound how it was intended

No one has reviewed the partner Attessa CD Transport. No one has talked about it. Looks like a nice stack.

It does look pretty awesome. It wasn’t in the cards for me this time!

Did you notice if the streaming amp had the hizz/hum to?

@@0102studio i have slightly hizz/hum on my Attessa non stream. Wonder if it normal because of the power circuit or manufacturing error

I had some noise in mine as well. I contacted the manufacturer and they arranged collection of the amplifier and did some changes in their headquarters. Sent it back and now it's completely fine. The process took 1-2 weeks.

Crappy plastic binding posts, but then it is made in China. Way too expensive for chinese made and there's too much competition at that price that has much better build quality - Atoll or starters. But if I was getting a Chinese built Amp, Musical Fidelity or Primare make better/sound better at this price. If it wasn't built in China and was better made, I'd be tempted. It's great looking. Oh, and zero tone controls on modern amps absolutely grinds my gears too. It's beyond infuriating. I keep reverting back to using a very cheap and cheerful Onkyo A9050 amp (cost about €450 off memory) simply because it has really good tone control and a direct over drive button to immediately switch off if needed. It's an absolute joy being able to simply dial a tone to suit anything I play that benefits from a little more treble or reduced bass. I find it actually incredulous and infuriating that the vast amount of amps nowadays don't include them. It's not a deal breaker, and of course I could add in a Schiit audio EQ, but why the hell should I need to add in yet another box with all the additional cabling and power paraphernalia JUST so I can tweak tone. Its so damn annoying.

I will forever campaign for tone controls on amps.
