    I get a little frustrated by the play of one of my opponents in the early game but I am able to capitalize on the bounties and score a nearly perfect game, eliminating all human players and missing the bounty on the AI.
    As always I am in it to win it. This is a low-odds proposition and I know I will need to get lucky and play my best to advance in this tournament. I hope that you guys wish me lots of luck on the journey.
    I share some strategic thoughts for the game of Risk: Global Domination.
    Settings are:
    Map: Earth 2209
    Mode: World Domination
    Setup: Auto
    Cards: Fixed
    AI Difficulty: Expert
    Turn Timer: 60s
    Fog: Off
    Blizzards: On
    Alliances: Off
    Dice: Balanced Blitz
    Players are:
    1st: ApallingCaptain328 - Norfolk Island
    2nd: bobschrumpf - USA
    3rd: Host AI
    4th: Myself - Top Grandmaster
    5th: Merl Musket 28 - USA
    6th: Webster Ironhead 5 - USA
    I hope you enjoy!

      @@jasonmaccollum7158 you don't play competitive games to give everyone equal chances of winning, you do what gives you the highest chance of winning. Clearly in this case it worked out even if that might seem results-oriented-- he explained his thought process pretty well though.

    It seemed like everyone hated the blatant green black teaming. So once green was dead everyone only cared about black he was really strong but did nothing with that advantage and then everyone slowly killed him. Even your bounties didn’t piss anyone off more than black and green

    This was an incredible fixed game to watch. It's very interesting to see a full-on bad-neighbor game of this scale with opponents who seemed to understand the shifting dynamics of power as well as the theory of destructive cooperation within bad-neighbor (other than the green player who just seemed bent on being a bad neighbor without a path to winning). I know fixed games and cooperative strategy aren't your preference (you prefer the unilateral wait and pounce gameplay often found in progressive cards), and so I applaud your restraint and level-headed gameplay in this match. It is honestly the psychology and diplomacy (both constructive and destructive) that I find most intriguing about fixed cards.

    • @TheKillPeteStrategy
      @TheKillPeteStrategy  Před 2 lety +5

    Black is such a good example of the importance of DOING SOMETHING with your massive lead. Eventually the board is going to turn on you if you just wrack up these troops but don't actually do anything to progress the game. Loved seeing you all with together to break him back.

    Great win Pete! Personally I think that green needs to be punished for their actions, I understand the occasional suicide in ranked because somebody is mad, but to sign all the way up for tournament and then proceed to try and ruin somebody’s game knowing that he wasn’t going to win either is despicable, I don’t know if there’s a tournament backlist but you have to assume that even if it wasn’t you, green would be ruining the game for somebody else, I would love to hear your thoughts on that, great game!

      I think an important skill for free for all play is empathy. You saw me at multiple points genuinely confused why green was making the decisions they were making because it seemed to hurt me, hurt themselves and benefit black.
      I didn't however take it like he was trying to ruin my game. Because he could have just slammed his stacks into me, so he was still attempting to play to win from his seat.
      Last season's final had a player not play to win and ruin cowboys game. That type of stuff is closer to what I want to see removed from the game: alt accounts in tournament were banned this season.
      But as far as anything green did being worthy of punishment I have to completely disagree. I honestly think they played their best game. Just because I was on the recieving end of it doesnt mean their moves aren't justified. They had as much right to win this game as I did.

    Managing to not just win, but also get most of the kills (including ones without game benefit) is quite the feat!
    I wonder: do you enjoy games with long timers or short ones more? Do you find your quickness in turn decisions a skill all the same as thinking, or do you think it detracts from the strategy orientation of Risk?

    • @TheKillPeteStrategy
      @TheKillPeteStrategy  Před 2 lety +5

      I prefer shorter active games. There is a debate in the community about whether the timer should be considered a strategic element for the game of Risk. Since the board game didn't have anything of the like.
      I come on the side of yes, but. I think the timer matters and playing to it is another skill gap to leverage, but I definitely think the speed playing field needs to be level if we are going to be playing games where the timer matters. Otherwise I can just steal undeserved wins by being faster.
      And if you think I'm quick at decisionmaking you should see some of the top 1v1 guys.

    Hey I was live RIGHT there I loved it and I love you. I don't get what Green was doing. Even I know not to do whatever it is that green was doing, lol. Either way, probably because of you that I know how to play as I only have about 40 hours in the game xD (39 hours and 20 minutes to be exact)
    So thank you for teaching me senpai!

      I studied at the University of Toronto and York university.
      I tend to enjoy materialist philosophy and I would describe myself as a structuralist socially. I prefer to solve problems by improving design and focus on the real world that exists as much as possible.

    1:18:12 is that the slider point you and under the gun were talking about. Losing 18 troops to a 7 is heartbreaking. I never knew that was a thing. I started thinking this was true random for a sec

      Yeah... It's a function of how balanced blitz works. Definitely something to keep in mind once you get to larger numbers.

    • @Kylted
      @Kylted Před 2 lety +2

      The opposite side of this is I've seen a large stack kill 14 troops and only lose 1. So it's weird on the both ways, but yeah the average is apparently worse if you don't do exactly the 100% roll

    I'm at the 50 minute part of this game. I really think green was cheating with black because after you reminded them no collabs in discord suddenly his attitude changed. Someone with 3,000 plus hours isn't going to just let someone get massive like that then decide "it's time to cut black down to size" Especially since you showed him you would be good neighbor and he kept breaking you for no reason. I understand him not wanting to piss everyone off. But it all comes down to his pivot AFTER you pointed out the possible collab. At 55 minute mark and it does appear greens goal was to help black grow very large then hide. You calling them out changed the plan and he just let himself die.

    • @TheKillPeteStrategy
      @TheKillPeteStrategy  Před rokem

      There's no way for us to know now. There wasn't found to be collaboration at the time so I'll let this one go.

    Really enjoying the content lately! Have you ever considered using a boom arm for your mic? Sometimes it seems like your keyboard typing comes in really hot in the audio mix, and I’m guessing it’s because it’s right next to your keyboard.

    • @TheKillPeteStrategy
      @TheKillPeteStrategy  Před 2 lety

      It is on an arm but the arm is attached to the table.
      I also bought this new keyboard recently. I'm happy with how it performs but it is a bit louder

    If you were in black's position after the green kill, how would you have played in order to win the game? I know you can't give me a step by step, but a vague idea of how to close a game from that strong of a position.

    • @TheKillPeteStrategy
      @TheKillPeteStrategy  Před 2 lety +1

      He needed to start making kills. The thing that loses you the game at that point is the whole table which is still strong than you teaming up to bring you down, or bring you to equal.
      Black was almost double in strength to red who was second in troops at that point. If black was able to make a kill, he would take a bounty and occupy the space of another player which would generate him more resources in the future.
      Divide and conquer. Kill one opponent at a time.
