Complete Stranger things and Pirates of the Caribbean
The overarching plot of this movie of how Blanc is just over complicating things in his head because he has trouble understanding dumb people is such a fresh take on a detective movie
Hot Fuzz did something similar, so good!!
Mary not realizing it was a murder mystery at first was bringing me too much joy.
I think it's hilarious how Mary didn't realize right away that the murder mystery in the invitation was a game. The irony of her saying that "Andi" was the only one who looked sad when she was the one with the biggest motive to kill Miles is just perfect.
PS, 7:55 Nice shout-out to _The Menu._ I loved that movie.
Speaking of her looking sad, the last frame of Helen at the end of the film was very identical to the Mona Lisa where you can’t tell her emotion.
I'm honestly still not sure how she didn't realize it was a game...
@@gwurockstar Mary can be a little oblivious sometimes. But, we still love her. 😊
I've seen a lot of reactors think that Miles must have been dead before they got there.
@@Linator4:
The last frame of "Helen", you mean.
Fun fact: some people might have noticed Natasha Lyonne's cameo appearance in the Among Us scene and thought it was a bit a random, well she actually plays a woman who has an innate talent for solving murders in a new streaming series called PokerFace, so her appearance in this film was kinda appropriate!
Poker Face is produced by Rian Johnson, so the crossover makes sense.
@@b.u.l.1734 is it a crossover though?
Poker Face is top tier. Everyone should give it a watch.
Everyone involved in the Among Us scene has a connection to mystery. Angela Lansbury, of course, was in Murder, She Wrote, and Natasha Lyonne is in PokerFace. However, Stephen Sondheim wrote The Last of Sheila and was a huge fan of puzzles and mysteries, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote several mystery novels based on Mycroft Holmes.
@@CleansHaven I'd call it a promotional crossover.
13:53 Joseph Gordon-Levitt deserves an Oscar for playing the 'Gong' guy.
Idk why but I just love when movies get big-name actors just to do something as simple as that. 😂
Glass Onion is exactly what it’s name says, and is very intentional. It’s a beautifully constructed puzzle box with many layers that is ultimately shallow and meaningless. Perfectly executed, it truly is what it is
Except that, unlike Knives Out, there's another layer to the mystery for the viewers themselves to solve, which is greatly hinted at throughout, and is never made explicit in the film itself; it really dramatically recontextualizes everything, and yet sadly so few people see it.
On re-watch... knowing the whole story... one can start catching glimpses of what is "revealed" in the remix / second half of the film. The theme of the movie is very much evident.
Only if one realizes the true mystery of the film, which is never explicitly revealed. 99% of people seem to have missed it completely.
One aspect of Miles you have to remember is that he's very reactionary. He had the party and the boxes going before the murder or the fallout with Andi.
When he was threatened, he reacted on impulse to get rid of her and went back to the normal plan of his yearly weekend.
Birdie reacts weird and over the top because she's tripping on acid.
Reactive, not reactionary. Reactionary means anti-progressive.
Aw man, most of the names you mentioned in the intro were supposed to be surprise cameos! This is why I don't look at IMDB or Google before I watch a movie lol
2 of the actors from the Among Us game are Stephen Sondheim and Angela Lansbury. This marked the final film appearance for both of them (Sondheim passed away in November 2021 while Lansbury passed away in October 2022).
Also, some of the plot elements from this movie are a tribute to the classic Jack Nicholson film CHINATOWN (1974) (which I consider to be one of the rare movies to be perfectly executed). In fact, the title font is identical for both movies.
Great catch about Chinatown and the font. It's the one connection I haven't made yet 👍🏻
Some are taken right from _And Then There Were None_ also.
This one was fun to watch especially Dave Bautista who's funny the entire cast was great.
One thing that I love about this movie is how it pays subtle nod to the Iliad, and how the downfall of Alpha and Miles Bron mirrors the fall of Troy. Cassandra is the oracle who warns the unheeding ruler of the fall of his empire; but, in the end, it is the arrival of Helen that burns it to the ground. Such a nice little literary touch.
This comment deserves so many more likes. Very cool observation.
It's even greater if you understand that "Helen" is actually Cassandra, and always was.
Helen turning into the Mona Lisa at the ending shot is such a great ending
This movie was made for a rewatch, you always catch something new
You mean "Helen", right? Hint: that person is not Helen; we never see Helen throughout the entire film.
@@hoon_sol It... is? Andi is the one that died. Short for Cassandra. Helen is her sister. Who we see throughout the movie.
@@augustarcana:
It very obviously is not, and the entire film is literally trying as hard as it can to make it as obvious as possible without stating it outright.
Since my hint wasn't clear enough: there is no Helen, and Andi never died.
@@hoon_sol that is your interpretation of it. No reason to not take the movie at face value. Reminds me of the 'Mastermind Martha' theories from Knives Out.
@@augustarcana:
No, it's extremely obvious once you realize it, and very clearly exactly the intention of the director. The idea that this film is meant to be taken at face value is quite frankly totally hilarious. Talk about completely missing the point.
And yes, there are similar hints all over Knives Out as well. If you haven't caught on yet, a big point in these films is that Blanc isn't nearly as smart as he thinks he is; Blanc is used primarily for misdirection from the actual mystery, which is meant to be an exercise for the viewer.
The fact that people actually take these films at face value really is funny to me, but I repeat myself.
14:39 I spat out my tea from laughing so hard LOL
You not funny
This was filmed during Covid ( Hence the masks) and Derol in the movie represents Covid, he 1st gets seen after they have had their vaccination , his first words are along the lines of "Pretend I'm not here" whilst always being there and hanging around in the background. And in almost all the times you see him he is drinking Corona.
I love this movie, yes even more than the first one. This whole movie is quite a commentary on society today and how easy it is to gaslight people into believing something even when they saw and heard completely different things themselves. We all saw Miles give him the drink, yet most believed when he explained differently. Benoit also calls Helen by her name on the stairs and most viewers just dismiss it.
i do love how miles' words come back to haunt him. "i want to be remembered in the same breath as the mona lisa." "even your partner will tell you to stop." so delicious.
The Seinfeld end credits 😂
You actually see the bag on the pooldeck shake around the time Helen throws the recorder into it.
Yes. You can even see the moment when Blanc is examining Duke's body and he smells the pineapple.
Cassandra's smirk, her pose at the very end. It mirrors the Mona Lisa.
Helen's.
@@HuntingViolets:
Cassandra's. If you didn't figure out that we never see any Helen throughout the film, then you missed a huge point of the entire film. Great choice by the writers/director to not explicitly state it, but sadly so many people seem to miss it, even though it's supposed to be completely obvious after you've watched it.
This movie goes from good to great on rewatches.
I would also recommend Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile.
I also thought the glass-smashing scene was pretty long, but I think that Helen taking so long to smash all the glass objects was her steeling herself to light everything up. Even though she was justifiably furious and frustrated, it's a pretty big jump from anger to potentially killing everyone there--not to mention making a symbolic middle finger to Miles
I think it was also about getting everybody else to express their rage against Miles too, to prime them for the end
I’m loving this series so far. Can’t wait for the next one.
If you rewatch the scenes of the murder in the first half, you can CLEARLY see MIles grab the gun, spike the drink, and switch the glasses, but he makes everyone, including the audience, look elsewhere.
No.
You can even see that he has Duke’s phone in his pocket
@@unforeseeable2.058 Nope.
@@jsmithers. ...yes? Literally yes.
@@gwinnellheald8592 ...No...
The end scene with Helen breaking everything deliberately is a call back to Miles' speech about disruptors breaking the systems even when everyone else tells them to stop.
The scene with "Helen" breaking everything, you mean. Hint: we never see the actual Helen throughout this entire film.
Although this wasn´t levels of knives out, I personally found this enjoyable film. If there´s third part, I hope we get more Hugh Grant though.
The fact that she didn’t realize the murder was very obviously a game is hilarious and sad
I saw this it's a pretty good movie.
You think it's over, it's only just begun...
"What is reality?!?" was hilarious to me
Not even Birdie thought it was a REAL MURDER...
You should check out Agatha Christie’s “Evil Under the Sun” (1982) with Peter Ustinov as Hercule Poirot; similar vibes. Actually, anytime Peter Ustinov plays Poirot is a great watch.💜
22:48 for a split second, you can see Duke's gun in Miles' right hand.
That's exactly why the Knives Out movies are so good.
Even while rewatching the movies, knowing how everything's gonna play out, the continuity holds.
I enjoyed your reaction. I love this movie. To me it’s as good as the first movie. Daniel Craig has gone from James Bond to Benoit Blanc. Two iconic characters.
Yes, I wish they'd call these Benoit Blanc mysteries instead of _Knives Out_ Mysteries, but I guess it doesn't matter since it's not an onscreen subtitle.
Great reaction Another Banger!!! 🔥🔥🔥
This movie has so many fun cameos.
world famous cellist YoYo Ma talking about the fugue, the whole crowd playing Among Us, Ethan Hawke who took an afternoon off
from filming Moon Knight to give people their mouth spray for Covid. But my favorite is that they got Joseph Gordon Levitt to
record the "Dong!" voice for the hourly clock dong rofl.
Sweet Cherry 🍒🍒🍒 geeking out over a video game was so cute.🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🌸🌸🌸🌷💗🌹❤️
Seinfeld and Trailer Park Boys references in the same video... amazing
It's been confirmed for a while they're making a third movie.
Fun fact: the 'hourly dong' was voiced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Derol also played Trooper Wagner in Knives Out.
I think Johnson is working partly from Poe’s Dupin stories.
The locked-room knife ‘murder’ of “Knives Out,” recalls “Murders in the Rue Morgue,” and the document-hidden-in-plain-sight of “Glass Onion” recalls “The Purloined Letter.”
I wonder whether Johnson will continue with this if there are further Blanc movies?
I think that the thing about Birdie is that she *is* fake. I think that she’s one of those people that’s always on. I think that her realest moments are when she’s talking privately to Peg.
Such a good film. I loved the way Rian Johnson changed the formula as well. I can’t wait for the next one
40:39 Because Miles just HAD to put an override into the security and just HAD to tell everyone about it and show them the switch as well
He literally set himself up for a mate in one
Yay! Love this movie!!
Great reactions to The Glass Onion, Mary!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽I actually enjoyed this a bit more than the previous film. I especially enjoyed the return of Daniel Craig in this role, even though he is not my favorite James Bond. I fell that this role suits hiim more, and I'm looking forward to the next film in the series.
I’m sorry but to say this one was better than the first is just insane, this movie sucks, the first one is mystery perfection. But I’m this one Blanc just rattled out all of the mystery while there standing in the same room, there was no figuring it out section.
Knowing how easy rich people have it when they're in prison makes this ending that much better.
Now he doesn't have the funds to get out of the worst of it.
I recommend Daniel Craig again in James Bond movies.
W editing
That randy edit had me dying😂
Please continue with Star Trek.
It’s actually Star Track.
@@austinkoch444 you misspelled Starwar.
Fun Fact: Glass Onion is also a song by The Beatles the song playing at the end
The twin sister is flat-out against Ronald A. Knox's rules for mystery writing, but it worked. For one thing, the reveal is early enough that the audience can use it as another clue to solve the mystery.
Fun fact: random guy walking around pretending he’s not there is Trooper Wagner from Knives Out.
It's occurred to me that this is a James Bond movie, except with Helen in the main role. She goes to a billionaire's island undercover, discovers that he has a plan that will cause massive death and destruction around the world, then she foils his scheme and blows the whole place up. Straight up Bond movie.
36:50 I mean if they did an autopsy they'd find it was an allergic reaction - and then people may start asking 'Mr Bron, do you normally put pineapple juice in your drink?'
Waiting till after the reaction to go on IMDB might be advisable for most films.
Whiskey also got a Miles package, just saying…😉
Fax lol
Fun fact: Ethan Hawke's cameo (as the guy giving the throat spray vaccine) was because he was nearby shooting "Moon Knight", and the director asked if he could appear in the scene.
Reminder: Duke's girlfriend now has to tell his mother that her son is dead. 👀
I'd watch a spinoff where Duke's mother solves crimes with his siblings showing up occasionally.
I think this one was better than the first.
I hope Johnson keeps the -eg naming convention going with the third installment. Knives Out had Meg, Glass Onion has Peg. Maybe Reg.
Helen and Andi have their hair parted in opposite the direction
Brilliant disguise, now it's totally not obvious that Helen is actually Andi! Oh, wait...
Personally, I actually prefer this film over Knives Out, though I think that's because I saw Glass Onion first.
42:07 He can't murder the rest of them - no one else is feeding him ideas on how to kill someone. he has no original thought of his own.
Fun fact; the Mona Lisa in the movie is, based on the way it burned, painted on canvas. The real Mona Lisa is painted on wood.
I liked the first one better as well.
The best part about this film is that, unlike Knives Out, there's another layer to the mystery for the viewers themselves to solve, which is greatly hinted at throughout, and is never made explicit in the film itself; it really dramatically recontextualizes everything, and yet sadly so few people see it.
i think with kate hudson's acting, you have to accept the idea that birdie jay is really just that phenomenally stupid. if you can't vibe with that, it makes her performance really grating. i think if duke had had more screen time/lines, she might not have stuck out so much? personally, i loved the performance. she really filled that "idiot who is only rich because she keeps failing upwards" niche.
wish it was addressed in the film, and maybe there's a cut scene somewhere, but the darryl guy that pops up now and again, was one of the cops from the first movie.
It's an Easter egg from the director. Wouldn't make sense to address it in the film. It's not the same character.
@@gwurockstar he's only addressed by his last name in the first movie, only by his first in the second. much better, them being the same guy.
if u listen "andys" southern accent creeps out occasionally throughout the movie, im sure it was intentional for repeat viewers..especially when they were arguing under the gazebo thing outside, her accent was outta control cuz she was drunk lol.
Kate Hudson is hilarious in this movie.
you would not do well at all at a murder mystery party, this movie was dumbed down a lot from Knives Out, the clues are supposed to be gotten from the start, you can clearly hear duke say he doesnt fuck with pineapple. allergy obviously, and you can clearly see when Miles gives him the drink he made as well as Dukes phone in his back pocket, lol.
The first One is better but also a good Movie
Kate Hudson is my favorite character in this film, her shocked yells totally blended with the ridiculous ambiance of the film.
I just noticed at 22:48 he has the gun, never noticed that before
Also I think it’s safe to say that Miles is going to prison for the rest of his life 🤣🤣
Madelyn cline is so beautiful. You have to watch the show outer banks:)
I liked the movie, but it lacked some of the tension from the first one. The breaking of all the glass was to get the others into lashing out at Bron, which is what it did.
"....mood gummies are a way to.... The integration of your advertisement is FLAWLESS.... let me repeat myself, FLAWLESSS..... Took me 2 minutes to realize I wasn't watching your reaction. Friggen mood gummies... "
Hey pretty! Will you please react the movie THE IMPOSSIBLE starring Tom Holland and Ewan Mcgregor. Such amazing movie you'll love it! This movie is base in true to life story. Looking forward to watch your reaction to this movie😊
I'll say that at the end, Helen smashing everything and the length, I don't think she had a specific plan going in. I think it started as just "smash his stuff" and then with Blanc handing her the Klear a new plan formed. Also, in terms of her potentially killing them all, she probably didn't much care. These people all just learned that Miles killed their former friend, wasn't remorseful, and were still willing to lie for him. I would have actually been a bit happier with them all dying but I think it would have been a little off brand for the series so I wouldn't say I am mad about it.
The gun is an extention of his charecter.
Well, Disney just disabled my 14 year old channel because I had all 50 episodes of a 1968 tv series that is obscure, and unavailable on dvd or any streaming services. The episodes had been up for twelve years. But Disney recently bought the company that originally made the series, 20th Century Fox, so...... I came here to watch a good vid using my - no uploads - channel. 😊
No one cares 🤡
What a shame. I hope you got your channel back. What was the series?
Look in through the bent back tulips..
see how the other half lives..
Looking through a glass onion...
Mary, you should watch Daniel Craig’s *James Bond* films (as well as the others in the series).
TOTALLY different character!
aducción
Very entertaining movie, but like Mary I also prefer the first one to this sequel.
One of the things I didn't like was the role of Peg played by Jessica Henwick, and not because the role is bad, I just think Jessica Henwick is so wasted in it.
Please react to Rambo First Blood
Literally, the murder mystery party was only to cover himself that he sent an invitation to Andi, so it was his idiotic alibi.
This movie was cool and lots of fun but the original is still better in my opinion ... I just didnt care for the cast as much as I did in the first movie
Kate Hudson was directed to act that way. Not the actor or necessarily the screenwriting.
Although, in this case, I think the writer and director were fairly in sync with what was desired. ;)
This is one of those movies that helps you gauge the intelligence level of the viewer. I don't expect anyone to figure out who the killer is, or what the twist is gonna be, but it really doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that Miles isn't sending out party invitations AFTER his murder.
This whole movie is even better once you know that the writers intended Miles to represent Elon Musk and Jeff Bezzos, and all those other clowns that are really just. . . Well. . .idiots. they did this even before Musk bought Twitter and Bezzos built his super Yacht in a Harbour that he can't get it out of. This aged like a fine wine man
Kate Hudson was playing an "airhead"... SO, if she soubded likan airhead - and a bad actor for that mattter (as they were all pretentious and fake - ie. actors), then wouldnt that make Kate Hudson's portrayal (acting) good? lol
Enjoyed the film, ending I thought was okay, but what gets me is how poorly they represent IP law. Which on its own is no big deal, but when a big point if the film is about fake intellectuals, it makes the film hilarious on a different level. 😂
Sorry Have a amazing day
Thank you Mary for reacting Glass Onion that's awesome excellent. I suggest and I hope you will reacts this movies: The Ten Commandments (1956) Dragonfly (2002) Saturday Night Fever (1977) Out of Africa (1985) Chariots of Fire (1981) Casualties of War (1989) Somewhere in Time (1980) All of Me (1984) The Crying Game (1992) Driving Miss Daisy (1989) Cadillac Man (1990) White Nights (1985) Dance with Me (1998) and The Party (1968) all highly recommended for you😊😊👍👍
14:36 disliked, reported, sued, submitted to the review board, banished from everywhere
also rejected, outcast, ostracized, stripped of all names and titles including birth name
Rian Johnson should give up the idea of making more STAR WARS movies and focus on original projects instead
Birdyjay was 100% a dumb airheaded american, they are very real and very much like she is. I thought all the characters came across very real and representative of real people.
Also Rian is pronounced like Ryan lol
