You did the GS300 an injustice...you failed to mention..1: it has Intelligent Cruise Control..it holds the speed if you are going Downhill
2: it has Dual Temperature Zones.
3: You can Open all windows Sunroof from outside if you press and hold the keypad....all these in a car that debuted in 98

Will do but the GS400 was the 1st time Lexus put a V8 in a sports sedan in 1998, was motor trend car of the year, was world's fastest sports sedan & was first with e-shift, the GS430 did not have that important feature, thanks!!

I'm obsessed with the 2nd gen GS. I am definitely on the lookout for one to replace my LS400 since I am not a fan of the lacking steering feedback on it. I drove a GS and it's steering feedback reminded me of my old E46 so I am a fan.

I bought my first GS in early 2007, a 2001 300 with 60,000 miles. Ran it for 7 years & clocked up another 110, 000 miles. Bulletproof reliability...apart from normal maintenence items, all it needed in my ownership were 2 oxygen sensors. The comfort was sublime, in fact the whole GS experience was like a "de-stresser". Spending so much time in that luxurious cabin, with every aspect of the driving experience quiet & silky smooth & all the time never feeling the Car might ever let you down. My current GS, a 2003 430 Sport, replaced the old faithful in 2014. Similar to L-Tuned & marketed here in the UK as a specific model. It was fitted with TTE Spoilers & Mesh Grill, lightly tweaked & 20mm lowered suspension + gorgeous OZ Salina 18x8" Alloys. I bought her at 70k mls & have traveled 40k in the past 7 years. For me, it is the perfect Automobile & I don't see myself ever replacing it.

@@MeynMotorGroup yes and it sounds great with CVT, but it has to have the 3.5 V6 engine to get the nice V6 sound. The power delivery is linear and progressive, which is really getting into me and it does not feel like raw and awkward power spinning the back wheels like some cars can do. This pushes you in a nice way. I really love it. The interesting thing is that normally after driving a car after 2 years, I get bored and look for something else. But with this Lexus GS450h, I am already thinking of keeping it for much longer as it ticks all the boxes!

This is one of the most timeless looking GS sedans that Lexus has made 100%~ I mean this is almost 20 years old now, and I can't believe how well this particular one has aged. Plus you can't go wrong with that Toyota/Lexus reliability that they're known for, I mean that 2JZ 3.0L I6 is still so smooth and still sounds great. Interior still looks just as classy as when it came out in 1997, and has also aged really well. Lexus during this era was perfect. It looks more classy than its Camry twin at the time.

This car is guilty of making me pass buying me a new car for over a decade. It just kept running with out any issues with motor or transmission. It just keeps on rolling with silky smooth motor. I have 225k on it now mostly sitting on my lot because it’s no longer my daily driver and probably worth a grand at the most. But if I had to drive 3,000 miles I would be stupid confident that this car will have no issues. This car is also guilty of making me another Lexus Make as our next car. Granted so many things went wrong with interior gadgets breaking or not functioning right with noises coming from all angles but that motor is crazy smooth and confident it will run another 225k no problem.

This car had the exact same version in Japan known as the Toyota Aristo. Everything was the same except for 3 things :
    1) Toyota badging
    2) It was RHD
    3) It had the twin turbo 2JZ-GTE engine of the twin turbo Supra.
Essentially it was a 4 door Supra and was similarly underrated in hp. Officially its rated at 280hp but it made 320hp stock in reality.

Yes. It was JDM only unfortunately. It came at a time when Toyota was really adventurous and boasted at that time cutting edge technology like 4 wheel steering ( in a car which came out around 1997!) I myself had the pleasure of owning a 2nd Generation GS300 until 2014. The engine is the smoothest ever and the build quality is bulletproof. If you think current Lexus have good build quality, this GS300 is on another level. The only weakness other than the low hp was the soft suspension but there were tons of suspension mods for this car mainly because the Japan only twin turbo Aristo was a popular performance car in Japan with modders and major aftermarket companies built parts for the Aristo. Since both cars had the exact same suspension, anything built for the Aristo suspension was the exact bolt on for the 2nd Generation GS300 (and the GS400/430). Needless to say, I went to town changing out the suspension and adding chassis stiffeners with minimal fuss.

in 98 you could get the v8 too, and the v8 was actually lighter being an aluminum block. 91-97 was only the JZ, but overseas they got the 2jzgte and the 1uz NON-vvti, those models only came in AWD on those early ones, in the next generation they did sell the 2jzgte in japan but they were only selling the UZ options for export in these cars, going to VVTI 1uz's and no option for awd, and again changing the engine in 2001 for a 3uz in the 430's just losing the paddle shifters. The 3uz and 1uz are actually the same block, heck the VVTi 1uz's even have heads that will bolt right on, only thing thats different is bore size gaining you 15 more ft lbs of torque, no more hp.

The looks as a personal reference to taste and desirability is the Achilles heel of this vehicle . It reminds me of a Oldsmobile which sits rather awkwardly on its four wheels as a sub standard product amongst its stable mates . The GS 300 lacked engineering leading to a more fuel efficient engine and unusual to a Japanese product had inherent faults. It's a good example to demonstrate Lexus evolutionary command of the segment for the betterment of the company and consumers alike.

For some reason this gen GS300 depreciated as badly as a BMW or Mercedes Benz once they hit the 8-10 year old mark. Many became beater/junker cars but kept going. Now at 16-22 years old the failure point causing them to be junked is the brake booster/ABS system unit. If it goes it generally exceeds the value of the whole car to fix it the right way. These were way ahead of their time when introduced in the fall of 1997. It was a prestigious car then and gives you a lot for a little money now. You would have to be insane to buy a newer Corolla or Civic for the same money over this car in 2020.
