There actually is munitions that can curve in flight the US government is working on it and is currently working. it doesn't bend Cuz you swing your gun the round itself has a chip in it that let's a computet move it by pushing out on fins
"Can bullets curve in flight?"
"No. And now I'm going to talk about something else."
exactly. It's so fking annoying.
The video is about shooting around corners in general. Not just curving a bullet. Get over yourself.

It amuses me that the 'Bonus Fact' section is longer than the main video topic.
because bonus facts are just full length articles of a related topic.
@@Abby_Liu Unrelated, in this case.
Thank you for the clear facts at the end about the Armalite Rifle.
Also, Bonus Fact: Matt Carriker (Demolition Ranch) has done some crazy stuff with bending bullets using pipes. Well beyond any practical use, unless you're trying to shoot backwards behind a tree through a window of a house, down the stairs, out the front door, and into someone's car. 😂
Except that the information is wrong -- this incorrect "fact" has appeared in multiple Simon Whistler videos. The "AR" stands simply for "Armalite" -- not all the guns Armalite invented were rifles.
@mikepeterson9362 I don't see how that is relevant to people trying to say "AR" means "Assault Rifle", and "all ARs are Assault Rifles", which is blatantly false and it is nice to see the clarification included at the end of this video.
@@NnH_Kairyu Well, it's definitely not up to me to decide what's relevant to you. I'm just reporting the news brother, take from it what you like.
My mom couldn't bend a bullet around a corner, but HOLY SH!T could she bend a sandal, a sneeker, and this one time a ski boot, around a corner, a tv, or my dad.

.30 carbine: am I invisible to you?
Not really an intermediate cartridge, seeing as its comparable to a .357
Incredibly fun to shoot but way too underpowered to be comparable to a rifle round. It had a purpose and it arguably served that purpose but it was not a front line round/weapon.
@@Skyrunner_84 It's broadly comparable to .357 Magnum - a powerful pistol cartridge, but nowhere near as much energy as an intermediate rifle cartridge.
Funnily enough, as .30 Carbine is to .357, 7.62x39 Soviet is to .30-30 - very similar ballistics, but one is a rimmed cartridge for old-timey Western guns and one is a rimless cartridge for autoloaders.
Kalashnikov said he took inspiration from the M1 Garand when designing the AK47
Yes, that's his biggest influence and it's aspects are obvious to anyone who has seen both weapons detail stripped side-by-side. But also the Remington model 8, and older Soviet designs. The only serious influence from the STG is the 7.62x39 cartridge, which was adopted and mandated by the Soviet government after looking over the German 8mmKurz round used in the STG.
More importantly, the continuation of the STG design survived the war, in the prototype iterative stage, as prototypes for the STG-45, designed by Ludwig Vorgrimler. Who then went on to use the same principles in the Spanish CETME rifle. Which later became the HK G3 service rifle and eventually the MP5. So the MP5 is the direct decent of the STG-44.
There is actually an experimental bullet that can follow a curved and adjustable flight path. It's the EXACTO guided bullet developed by DARPA about ten years ago. The steerable nature of the projectile allowed novice snipers to make long-distance shots against moving targets that changed trajectory mid-air.

To effect the path of the bullet just by swinging your arm, you'd have to swing it at least as hard as the explosion that just happened behind it was pushing it. That would probably hurt you more than anything.
I've fired quite a few rounds through a genuine WW1 bolt action American Enfield rifle and can confirm they kick like a mule. Left a bruise on my shoulder for weeks.

One thing everyone forgets about this movie. The bullets weren’t just normal, they were highly modified. Not saying it would work, just saying it is a fact most people don’t mention when discussing the movie.
Hey, great video with just the facts. Thank you!
So the kitty thing is based on the Ooda Loop principal. Basically when our brain is expecting something within the relms of predictions, the mind is confused when it sees something it wasn't anticipating, it "loops back" to the time you were making predictions and Basically restarts your thought prossess. Sense the brain can only think at a certain speed it gives the person who fooled it an advantage. There's a story I heard during the Iraq War Part Dux, Marines would toss rubber duckies instead of frag granades (Marines don't use flash) to clear a room.
You'd need to build something similar to a particle accelerator and use the electromagnetic confinement to curve the bullet.
Excellent content!
I've been paintballing and you can see the shots curve through the air because they are not spinning. Muskets were incredibly inaccurate back in the day because the musket ball wasn't spinning.
I once did some very rough calculations for a cap and ball gun, and you could hypothetically get a pretty good curve off the bullet and could probably improve it even more with a specifically designed barrel. Still nothing like in Wanted, but surprisingly prominent all the same. Ive always wished one of the gun channels would try it. (The only tests Ive ever seen were with the usual modern shaped bullets and guns which are of course designed for as straight and stable a flight as possible for obvious reasons.)
This is probably the most accurate (excuse the pun) of any of Simon’s videos on firearms from any of his channels! I hate to say it but they’re usually littered with mistakes and inaccuracies. They even got the correct definition of assault rifle and clarified that “assault weapon” is a purely political term! Great job!
Hello again, and thank`s for another, very informative video.

Realistically, if you wanted to curve a bullet's path, you'd need to shape the bullet accordingly. It would also probably be necessary to fire the bullet through a smoothbore barrel, rather than a rifled barrel. But assuming you used a smooth barrel and had fins on the bullet/ shaped the bullet to curve in a particular direction, it seems possible.
I can not give Simon and TIFO crew enough props for the accurate and fact based break down of the AR-15 and the technical term assault rifle. And the made up liberal term assault weapon. Bravo and much respect.
So I don't get peoples problem with the term assault weapon. My understanding of the term was always that it referred to military style rifles with various add-ons or features that can make it more suitable for killing humans than hunting, high capacity magazines, semi auto fire, bump stock(I'll be honest I don't actually understand this one its just one that's used frequently).
I generally don't have an issue with weapons designed for hunting animals although in my opinion the ideal world be all firearms stored in gun ranges (you can play with them there since admittedly firing guns in fun). However it seems clear to me that we have a problem with the accessibility of guns that are designed to efficiently kill people and their subsequent use to do just that. I know there's no magic bullet (pun intended) but surely having less of these "assault weapons " around would at least make it harder for a would be mass shooter to get one? So getting back to the original point having a term that refers to a problem that is evocative in a general sense that can be used to rally support for a cause is important when considering our media flooded lives, most people will only hear soundbites and having a catchy term is one important way of penetrating the noise.
@@omgandwtf1 if I hit you with a rolled up newspaper that makes that news paper an assault weapon not an assault newspaper. No gun ever made or ever will be made is an assault weapon. Any can be an assault weapon if used to assault someone. You unfortunately have drank the liberal cool aid. Also the second amendment isn’t about hunting.
"define:Bullet" (a metal projectile for firing from a rifle, revolver, or other small firearm, typically cylindrical and pointed, and sometimes containing an explosive)
A gun that launches sharp metal boomerangs is still a bullet.
I don't know if anyone has made a homemade ninja star, but unless you do it perfectly they're really hard to keep in a straight line.
Very good Simon, I'm rather impressed
There is/was a steerable 50BMG bullet developed by DARPA, the EXACTO Program.
I don't think there's any reliable sources on how it actually works, but there's a couple videos floating around of it.
It does NOT use rifling to spin and stabilize the bullet. The bullet can therefore fly like a rocket with guidance surfaces and the amount it curves is still fairly minimal.
Don’t forget the M3 “Grease Gun” with “curved barrel “
There were some experiments years back on making a steerable .50 cal with inflatable sacks that would alter its trajectory mid flight. Never really went anywhere, but it was a neat idea.
I haven't seen the movie, but it was still an interesting video Simon. Thanks!
Can you imagine how loud firing a rifle in a tank would be?
Digging the "SW" logo in the background, Simon!
As a note, at 22:30 the 5.56x45mm NATO is compared to the 7.62x54. I believe you meant to say 7.62x39 which is what the AK-47 and AKM is chambered in. The latter is not an intermediate caliber and is more comparable to the 30-06 Springfield that he M1 Garand was cambered in. 7.62x54R is what rifles such as the Mosin Naggant or Dragunov rifles are chambered in.
Hey Simon got it right the first time "soccer" lmao😂😂😂
9:08 The cat pistol is a nod to the Bruce Willis movie "The Last Boy Scout."
Crazy weapon. It'd be fun to try out.
I would have liked to have heard more about the spin of the bullet which does make the bullet move to the side. The amount of spin that would be needed for a bullet to curve the amount to have a usable curve instead of just an annoying drift would be absurd but it is the only thing that might make it possible. It's to bad it's "today I found out" instead of mythbusters. They'd at least give it a shot.
This video already started right , with the awesome Wanted. The game was also good.
So you got a lot right in this and I'm actually really proud that you noted the AR-15 is not an assault weapon. However you did get one thing wrong in regards to talking about the 5.56 and the .223. These rounds while extremely similar are not in fact the same round. A 5.56 is a higher pressure cartridge than the .223 which is why if you have a rifle chambered in 5.56 you can fire a .223 from it however if you have a .223 rifle you can NOT fire a 5.56 through it. Don't get me wrong, it will fit and you might even successfully fire it a few times however the higher pressures will cause massive damage to the firearm and they are not safe to shoot. You run a very real risk of the receiver detonating in your hands and face.
See Scott from Kentucky Ballistics for details on why catastrophic weapon failure due to overpressure is bad.
This is kinda related, but I used to do pistol competitions, specifically USPSA. I heard that one time, someone accidentally shot one of the plastic barrels that they use at matches, and the bullet kinda followed the curve of the barrel, and came back and hit him. Weird, unexpected ricochet's are definitely possible.
Nope.
yes there are many videos of steering bullets online
I would just like to take a moment to appreciate Simon for his proper pronunciation of "Maryland" 😎
China has made at least three CornerShot-like weapons to date: the HD-66, which is based on the CornerShot, and the CF-06. Both models were first unveiled at the China Police Expo (CIPATE) and developed by the Chongging Changfeng Machinery Co Ltd and Shanghai Sea Shield Technologies Company. According to Quing Shanseng, chief designer of the HD-66 and CF-06, both systems are indigenous and were not done based on the CornerShot.
Simon, bravo
Demolition Ranch has done it several times.
how does TIFO get the definition of “assault rifle”, in their video but American lawmakers just can’t figure it out?😂
Yeah, but they use the term "assault weapon", which means any semi auto firearm.
The term "assault weapon" is not a real term, but gun control advocates use it to mischaracterize a wide range of firearms used by law-abiding civilians.
Because American politicians are geriatric and have dementia
Propaganda. "Assault rifle/weapon" sounds much more nasty than "Armalite Rifle". Anti-gunners want the nasty sounding name used.
Simon has misused the term in brain blaze when talking about pizza gate. He's reading the script so it depends on who wrote it. He has done some videos where he has been good with dealing with intricacies like when he covered US gun control laws and was able to point out quick out quickly that the biggest obstacle is states vs federal rights. As for Assault weapon it's a political term that defined by who is using it and not by legal definitions. Personally I find it's use to be distracting from actually solving the problem since it causes both sides to get bogged in a political argument rather than a discussion on what policies could realistically mitigate gun violence whether it's the mundane stuff or more high profile issues. He also just confused 7.62x54 with the 7.62x39.
Today I found out that I need a matrix remake with them using flintlocks 😂
You can make a bullet go in whichever direction you want….until it leaves the barrel
That robotics guy from North Carolina will stumble upon this video and assemble his own Nerf Rival 180⁰ tunable spin shooter with autoaim.
DRDC and Colt Canada have prototype smart rifles that can automatically geo locate targets. It can supposedly hit targets around corners or behind cover (although I believe they are explosive rounds)
Hands up if you hear a bunch of numbers but still watch these sorts of videos
You can curve arrows though. Because of the fletching
Can you ever do a dedicated about gun manufacturer
It seems feasible to develop grenade launchers that can curve a grenade around obstacles to some extent (like a curve ball).

As if war wasn't already horrifying enough, imagine not even being able to take cover because the bullets could just go around it

In my time in the CF, I used the FN C1 & C2 variants of the FAL and the tried out the M-16 while on joint training exercises with the US Amry a number of times.. Never liked the M-16 as it felt like a toy and that it was lacking in hitting power and range when compared to my FN, atleast as far as I was concerned.
But those at a much higher pay grade level than me thought otherwise and the CF adopted the C7 rifle, the Canadian version of the M-16 abet with apparently a number of improvements, to release the much loved FN C1's & C2's.
Love the people who actually believe (or even just say) that Canadian military is even a thing.
@@paulmartin2348 It is a thing, it is small, it is underfunded, it is short on manpower, and it's equipment is sadly lacking, but it is still a thing.
It can and does still punch well above it weight, ask the Germans or the Taliban, they will tell you one group you don't want to fuck with are the Canadians.
An American General when leaving Afghanistan was asked about the Canadian under his command, he replied "Well, I wouldn't want to fight them".
The sorry state of the CF is nothing new, its always been like under all the party's that made up the government in Ottawa.
It was that way during my time in the service, and it was that way at the start of WWII. But when it comes time to step and be counted, you wont find Canada and its military lacking.
What if you used a cartridge with less gunpowder (flies slower), and made the bullet lighter but not nerf light (that’s silly). At what point would it be non lethal and could you potentially curve it while still being lethal?
There is a way to curve a bullet over short distances. Use ccp pipe, demolitionranch test it out in one of his videos and it works.
There was a rifle called the "cornershot" that had a video feed and could shoot straight like normal or turned the action and barrel 90 degrees to see around corners and fire from cover.

I'am missing the M1 carbine,it is a medium range carbine in caliber .30m1 and an ideal weapon for close combat. And it came in service in the 1940 i dont know the exact year. I had one from 1943 it had not been used in the war, all the numbers were the same on all the parts. If an 30m1 was used in the war they would put parts in it from other 30m1's to make it work again.
How slow would a spinning round bullet have to fly to curve noticeably?
Simon just confused 7.62x39 for 7.62x54 again. As for development for intermediate ammo that goes all the way back to WW1. Google the Ribbeyrolles & Federov Avtomat. The Ribbeyrolle shows the idea for developing an intermediate ammo was around before WW2 but became more accepted during & after WW2 along with Federov showing some in the military were considering making a full auto rifle that traded power & range for ease of control & suppression. Another advantage intermediate ammo has is that at close range it has better stopping power than a rifle ammo since it less likely to over penetrate the target and allow for easily follow up shots. This was a known issue far back as the boxer rebellion when soldiers where noting how many shots at close range it would take to drop a target.
What about a super magnet? Or, a mini-black hole? That could happen?
Seeing the title Im immediately reminded of that mythbusters episode
Same here
What if you could swing the gun faster than the speed of the shot leaving the barrel, I suppose grooved bullets wouldn't work, but round bullets don't work well.
The AK gas system was loosely based off the M1 Garand
The AR-17 is my favorite ArmaLite Rifle
Weeeell, theoretically it COULD be possible to fire around a curve right into a circle.
However the gravity well necessary for that would make the supermassive black hole at the center of the milky way galaxy look like a grain of sand next to a neutron star.
Neutron star gravity 2*10^12m/s/s
Bullet speed. 500m/s
Meaning that neutron star gravity can turn that bullet around in a quarter of a nanosecond. During which it will have travelled 0.1 micrometers.
Someone get simon to a range day
Barrels bend all the time.like all things they wear out. I. The case of small arms you fire rounds that the barrel glows then like all metal that gets to that state easily bends. The weapon can still fire but accurate fire is gone. Fixed defenses with machine gun nests will have spare Barrels for that reason. To swap out before the barrel warps.
the guy that attempted to make a gun that shoots at in a circle was found dead...shot in the back of the head. Who would have thunk it?
How about a gyrojet bullet tuned to curve?
I can curve a bullet.. only in a downward arch due to gravity
