  • Today, we are going to check and test out Eufy's long awaited accessory that a lot of Eufy Cam users have been asking for since they started selling their Wireless, Battery Powered Eufy Cameras. This solar panel is compatible with the Eufy Cam, Eufy Cam 2 and 2 Pro, Eufy Cam 2C and the 2C Pro, Eufy Cam E and also for their Eufy Cam Solo.
    So, we will do the unboxing, check out the specs, do the installation and test this solar panel and see how fast or slow it will charge Eufy's higher capacity cameras (13400 mAh) like the Eufy Cam 2 and the Cam E compared to their Eufy Cam 2C (6700 mAh).

    In the UK here in the middle of winter with next to no sunshine and after fitting this panel to my 2C front camera that sees 20 to 30 activations a day after a week my charge level has risen from 17% to 20%, so very happy with it so far. No more manual recharges even in the worst weather.

      Hello hope you don’t mind me asking, I’m also in the U.K. once the panel has charged the camera does it keep it topped up. As you know U.K. weather n going up n down a ladder to charge the camera isn’t an option so I’m interested in one. I’m still trying to decide on the camera’s 2 or 2pro and a doorbell with chime or add on to Homebase could you give me any advice on these, any help would be appreciated. Iv got myself confused, haven’t seen the E option so not worried. I’m also confused why don’t they all have anti theft on the cameras? Any help from anyone would be appreciated thank you

      Once I fitted the solar panel it charged the camera from 17% to full and maintained it all the way through to spring time. A deciding factor will be the amount of sun where the camera is located, but for me it has worked great.

    Great video LH!! I think the difference between the Battery and Solar selection (under Power Source) is the blue light that turns on when it’s charging. When “Battery” is selected the blue light turns on to show it’s charging. Under “Solar” it doesn’t.

    Hopefully in the future, Eufy can make a solar panel with perhaps 2 cables or have 2 ports in order to connect 2 Eufy Cameras at the same time. So, if you have 2 cameras in the front of your house, these can be topped up with just one solar panel. Will be more aesthetically pleasing and better for the pocket.

    Really considering these, as I'm not seeing anywhere near Eufy's claims on battery life for the EufyCam 2 cameras I have, and the system is set up at a remote vacation home that I cannot just drive over and charge all the cameras. But $59 for a solar panel? hmmm... Even with all the cool brackets, etc... I think there may be some less expensive, perhaps even better, aftermarket options. Would love to see pros and cons on aftermarket solar panels for Eufy's cams. I'm seeing some on Amazon for about $35 that are more powerful at 3.5 watts, and claim Eufy compatibility. Thanks!

    It’s kind of pricey but it does a really good job. Before I got mine my solo cam E40 pro use to drop 4% battery a day. With the panel it sits at 80 steady even on cloudy days. Even if it was to drop, it will only take 1 day of sun light to get it up 30% and that’s cause I only get a few hours of direct sunlight.

    Thanks for the review. Not sure if anyone has commented this, but isn't the difference in charging that you comment on due to the fact that you are comparing relative charging (%) between 2 different capacities. In absolute terms of mah gained the charge speeds are very similar taking into account variations in sun power from day to day and the fact that charging speeds are not linear over the capacity of a lithium battery (fast charging when levels are low and slowing down when reaching full).

Want to see if any wild animals are around the property when I leave at 3am for work. Love them except for two reasons...1st, the constant climbing on stairs to recharge. 2nd trying to share the notification with my daughter's. It only allows me to share with one daughter, as soon as another tried to log in it logs me off. Frustrating because I have left to go to work and sure enough there is a wild animal close by which I didn't know because I was logged off without knowing. Is there a way for all house hold members to be logged in at the same time? Also, thanks for your videos, you are so informative. Love them!

    I believe the difference in charge status when connecting the solar panel is internal power management. For example, apparently the LED charge indicator turns off when connected to a solar panel in order to save power; similarly to save on CPU processing energy, it turns off real-time charge indicator. In its place, that's why EUFY uses the static yellow solar panel icon.

  • @KouserYangMusic
    @KouserYangMusic Před 3 lety +8

    When you set the power source to solar panel the camera is drawing power directly from the solar panel, not the battery. Since the Eufy solar panel does not have a built in battery pack, on a cloudy day the camera would have no power unless the battery source automatically kicks in as backup. I’ve not tested this but I think this is the case in order to preserve the battery longevity. If the power source is set to battery the camera will draw power from the battery. The solar panel will be charging the battery instead of providing direct power for the camera.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  Před 3 lety

      True... but there is a comment here about detection statistics on the camera which resets every time the battery gets fully charged... so I'm assuming that the solar panel option will not reset it but the battery option will... I do have to test this though..

    • @KouserYangMusic
      @KouserYangMusic Před 3 lety

      @@LifeHackster yes that is correct. I have mine set to solar panel which was initially not an available option when I first purchased my Eufy cameras. I’ve been using the Blink XT solar panel which has an internal battery that can hold a charge on days where it’s too cloudy to charge the panel.

      I hope you get this message since it's been a year since you wrote here. I am trying to get support from Eufy over what you stated. I noticed that the camera goes offline at night, and turns off when I have it set to Solar Power. It seemed logical to me that it's because the solor panel is not drawing energy from the sun. I cannot change it to battery after it goes off, so should I be keeping it on battery power all the time to have it run 24 hours a day? Then the blue light is constantly on and charging if this is the case. Isn't this poor design?

    Really like this system. Wonder how well it would do in Wisconsin weather. I'm also looking at the indoor cam as my 9 year old Samsung is beginning to fail. Not sure where to start just yet. Maybe indoor, doorbell with hub then exterior cameras

      Minnesota here... the cameras are troopers outdoors so no worries there. It is smart to charge them up before any sort of big deep chill. For instance I charged all my outside cameras as its gonna get super cold in a few days. As for indoor.. I LOVE the indoor 2k eufy cameras. Love how quickly they pull up in the app and the clarity so they have my vote.

    I think clicking solar panel means it's running on the solar panel and not the battery. There's a trickle charge when on solar panel mode.

    Sorry to comment on this video when its not related but... I currently have a Ring Pro, its ok but not perfect. I am going to be moving soon and was wondering what alternative that doesn't rely on the cloud to work would you recommend (one that I can still have remote access, two way talk, motion sensing (that isn't terrible) and good video quality day and night. Ideally not battery powered. (POE is also ok). Love your videos, keep up the great work. Thanks

Looking at the Wyze forum there’s some interest in this subject. Most are for battery powered cameras but having the ability to power a normal indoor camera would be nice.

    What have you found to be the longest distance to the base station these cameras can be? I understand it depends on the number of walls/roof and material make up of the home, but am looking for what you may have found to be the distance. Thanks!
