if most clue in to he is not driving the truck hard, hes only hitting 2250 RPMS, which is smart thats when the truck si in its torque curve and not making stupid high EGT's, towing is not just "oh a hill time to floor it" its getting speed before the hill, this hill is a huge test for these trucks
I purchased a new '99 dodge with a 360 magnum w/4.10 gears to pull a 7k lb. car trailer. Honestly, it did the job fine & never left me left me feeling like I needed more power to merge into traffic without being a hazard to my self or others. In 2010 I replaced it with an '03 7.3 psd w/3.73 gears & the difference is like night & day. While the much improved acceleration was expected, the ease at witch the 7.3 does it's job when cruising down the highway makes for a much more relaxed drive.
My last truck is a 98 Dodge Ram with a 360 magnum upgrade to a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 diesel I haven’t tow anything yet because I just bought it a month ago but I really want to and feel the difference!
I use to have a 99 ford f-350 with a 5.9 cummins it was a nice truck but then i sold it and bought a Dirty-Max and it has a lot more power towing and driving in general then the Fummins i had
It's not only based off the core performance being diagnosed each second to see if it's running properly. the Check engine light also includes O2 sensors. Most common reason check engine lights are on, are due to faulty sensors and shit electronics. Unless youre about to shoot a rod.
This duramax is on the ranch to do all the hard pulling. A job hauling hay multiple times is hard on the engine and transmission. My dodge rides rough unlike the duramax, and I don't want to put any wear and tear on it when I don't have to.
Have a 2006 as well, and this is true.. My light is on due to bad glow plugs. I live down in Texas, so I'm not to worried about them at the moment (will change before winter.) But yes, the light does not hurt the truck at all. It still has full power and hauls ass.. Just needs glow plugs :). I'd be willing to bet the guy in the vid has the same ordeal going on
Have you guys ever hauled with a gas motor? I wanna know how it does compared to a diesel. I use a 5.3 vortec. It tows well enough but I've been thinking about up sizing to a duramax or a Cummins.
Aaron Davis I currently am running a 5.3 vortec in an 09 Chevy with 200k on it, it does what I need it to do, it pulls my 5k trailer up into the mountains but a diesel will do it better, which is why I'm in the market for one. More power, better economy pulling. So how often and how much weight you tow will determine whether you should get one.
there may be a reason for that, that he may know of. Some if you straight pipe or do other stuff it'll throw a code. Not sure if this is the case but just throwing that out there.

I’ve had them all and Lbz with a tune will smoke all 3 up a hill. The problem I always had with fords as soon as I put 5th wheel on it saggy in back. Dodge held weight best and best low end but duramax was just faster getting up speed with weight
Basically dodge if you wanna tow and your not in a rush (pulls heavy but slowly). Duramax if you wanna tow anything at any speed (v8 diesel power with an allison is just unstoppable). And ford if you wanna tow casually (it’s a little bit of both)
When it boil's down to it, it's whatever you perfer, the older cummin's do work extreamly well compared to a 6.5 TD from GM, cummins 100% the 6.5 sucks, but the duramax is much much better, dont get me wrong the duramax is alot quiter, from what im told with people who have owned both trucks, they both haul really well, but the duramax seem's to give better fuel ecomeny and makes it up grade's better compared to the cummins, but really people just need to pick what they want not what others say

need a cummins with a MANUAL transmission. i dont care how good the allison is. u get better pulling power and mpg with a manual. & yes i know with a dodge manual you would be havin clutch problems but in my opinion it would be better. personally im a ford guy but u cant beat a cummins.
The duramax is a good motor it's just not good on fule I've owned one before a 2002 model and it used up so much fule that I traded it in for a 2006 1500 4x4

not to be a dick or start an argument.. but what planet do you live on? cummins makes higher torque numbers at lower RPMs and has a flatter torque curve.. so how is it better to have a dmax?? and why is there so much hype about it all of a sudden.. wht makes the Dmax better?

That Duramax/Allison drive train is the best there is in a pickup..
Good choice. Have had my '06 LBZ for a little over a year now. Completely bombproof.

Would guess those rolls between 800/1000 lbs a piece..plus trailer..its hard to beat a duramax.
is your oil gauge bad or the oil sender not working good the oil pressure was a little low
Jeremy Hougland it does work.

was your dad driving the semi?
My dad was on a dozer not to far from the field. The ranch owner was driving the semi.
My 7.3 has The Allison 1000PK transmission it is used in the 1997-2003 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke 4R100 4X4 Automatic.
Yeah , because of the massive amouth of torque that lift the front wheel , other then that, in 4x4 It will just get the job done !
you cant break the older ones, i have a 6.0 and a 6.6 both are virtually impossible to destroy unless you drive it off a cliff of course!
Alexander Hamilton you are correct. Check out "rebelmechanics" CZcams channel they beat the 5.3 1500 to shit.

Between that duramax and your Cummins, which do you prefer to haul/tow with?
I prefer the 12 valve cummins because it's more enjoyable when you shift your own gears and the sound a cummins make is beautiful.

DieselPowerTV so I agree. But I still love my duramax.
