. Welcome to our latest video where we dive into the exciting world of flight training and the journey of becoming a pilot. The process of building a student pilot up is a step-by-step process, where with each flight lesson, the necessary skills and mindset are added to make you a safe aviator.
In this video, we take you along with Sienna, a student pilot who has been eagerly awaiting her flight training. Not only does she want to learn to fly, but she also wants to capture some amazing senior photos with a breathtaking backdrop. She gets her wish as she takes to the skies with her trusted Cessna 172, accompanied by her flight instructor.
Together, they fly to Seldovia, a small Alaskan village near the flight school, where Sienna will face a challenging but exciting flying experience. This airport is surrounded by trees and terrain and requires precise flying, making it a perfect training ground for a student pilot in only their 5th lesson.
The lessons learned in this video are truly incredible and showcase the skills required to fly a plane. With the trees surrounding the airport and the small strip, Sienna is able to put into practice everything she's learned so far, and it's a beautiful sight to see.
So join us as we explore the art of flying, and watch Sienna as she takes her first steps towards becoming a pilot. Whether you're interested in learning to fly yourself, or simply curious about what goes into pilot training, this video is sure to inspire and educate you. From stick and rudder control to online ground school, we cover it all.
This video is perfect for anyone interested in General Aviation, private pilot training, flight instruction, and the world of flight schools. Don't miss out on this incredible flying lesson, and be sure to check out our other flight training videos for more great content.

I remember my first flying lesson.
the instructor asked me the question. where do we land if we have an engine failure?
    I replied:
"Oh there's a beach dead ahead".
after 5.5 hours of flight training, my personal circumstances changed and Sadley, I never got back into it.
    that was 24 years ago.
I am really enjoying this series of videos watching a young person learning to fly.
its bringing back so many good memories.

What a neat opportunity to be able to get some awesome unique pictures. Its not every day that someone has the option to be able to take senior pictures in front of an aircraft - especially with some extremely awesome scenery.
Years ago I worked at 1D2 (Canton/Plymouth, Michigan) when it was a training/school airport. Sadly the school portion closed down, they sold their cessnas and a piper cherokee, and the airport is now owned by the Michigan Dept of Transportation. Being a lineman, I was always on the apron moving and gassing the cessnas, and it kind of sparked my interest in becoming a student pilot. Sadly that never happened, and now I think the closest training/school airport to me is ARB in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I'm sure one of these days I'll get that motivation again. Watching your videos sure spark my interest, thanks again Chris!

Hi Chris - I do enjoy your videos, love seeing Alaska. I hope to visit soon.
I'm a Long time pilot/ instructor, charter pilot and Traffic pilot too in the lower 48. I of course don't know your preflight briefs with Sienna but correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't see use of a check list or syllabus. I was disappointed at how much you did rather than her. I admit I need to check out more of your instruction videos to be fair and we all do have our unique ways of teaching. I like to set the student up with everything they're going to do and get them talking right away. I cover and practice with them all that they will be expected to say and assist as needed for the unexpected which doesn't happen often. I want them to be controlling the plane as much as possible with only my verbal coaching. As for that I like to be specific i.e. set power to 2350 rpm. If they need another 100 to 200 rpm I state that NOT a little less or a little more rpm. that's to vague. We need to be precise with all instructions. I didn't see clearing turns either which is drilled into down here. Well I don't meant to be harping on you I know you love aviation, instructing and your students and your success is showing that. So if there is anything you can use out of this great otherwise I'm sure you know what to do. Oh one more thing. On the radio I head a LOT of jabber when it comes to looking for traffic. When advise all that's needed is to say "Looking" and call sign or "Contact" and call sign. If necessary state the type A/C so ATC and the other pilot know your talking about them.
Best to you keep up the great work
    Dan

  • @dtbmjax

I love your content. I just wish you had been a bit more focused on Sienna maintaining her altitude "assigned" altitude. New pilots need to have that drilled into them so when it comes time for the checkride, especially your instrument checkride, maintaining your altitude is so very important. At 5:58 in this video, she's already at 3450' when she should have been at 3000'. The pictures of Sienna were all fantastic. If I had to choose one, it would be the one of her on the right side on the empennage, showing the back half of the plane with the windsock coming out of the top of the tail.
