  • Missing a shot when hunting can be easy if you're under pressure and haven't determined your exact capabilities in a given hunting/shooting scenario (stability from a field rest, time pressure, etc.). Here's how you can prevent that from happening to you.
    The hunter's field marksmanship test.
It's a simple 10-shot test that will help you establish your limits and identify and address potential issues relating to shooting position and execution. But you must be careful when interpreting and using the results in the field. Listen to this episode to get all the details.

Good points. My hunting varies little, so I practice accordingly. It is all at ~50 yds. and seated shooting at walking whitetail deer or black bears in moderately heavy cover. There is no time for sticks or rests. Time pressure is tight. At best pick a hole and wait for him to pass through. What I can't replicate in practice is the movement. Even at this close distance it matters. Shooting with a timer is a good practice.

Thanks! In my experience many folks underestimate the preparation that goes into the type of hunting you do. And it sounds like you’re on top of things with good practice routines.
We have a good shooting cinema near to where I live and it’s great for practicing moving shots or prepping for when a deer pauses in that small “window” in the vegetation. I highly recommend shooting cinemas, but I’m not sure how widespread they are, generally speaking.
I have seen Aimpoint make a VR solution, but I imagine it’s pricy.
      All the best!

What I really appreciate about your channel is the focus on ethical hunting and marksmanship. Bench rest shooting helps to understand the tool and what you feed it but good luck finding a bench in the field
