  • Mostly shot using a hand held Hi8 camcorder, this short video features slam door trains between Ladywell and Addiscombe stations. The shots between Elmers End and Addiscombe are particularly historic because most of that section of line is now used for Croydon's Tramlink. For EPB fans all the trains lined up in the old Addiscombe depot will bring a certain nostalgia.

As a kid I used to love looking at the combination of liveries when they were multipled to 6,8,10 car trains. Great video, brought back some good memories 👍👍

Also this probably might sound a bit strange but the fronts of these epb units used to remind of Pacman characters that would chase after you in the computer game lol! 🤣🤣🤣

An Aunt had a flat near the line and we often crossed the footbridge there. Whilst the line was in use. The footbridge that has now been swallowed by the trees and undergrowth.
A marvelous collection of ambient sounds and nostalgic sights. One feels even more ancient when you read that the Networkers that replaced these are now being withdrawn! 🙁

Just to think in less than 2 weeks this will be exactly 30 years ago. Mind blown...

Great filming, I lived in lower Sydenham often used to visit the box at Addiscombe on Saturday’s done loads of filming there, even a ‘Bouncy’ cab ride from Elmers End to Addiscombe, on an EPB! I also remember the sad day going there when some mindless morons had set fire to the signal box, and burned to the ground, all that history gone in a moment.🤓

Brings back memories when I worked as a guard only to be made redundant by the sliding door stock that replaced the epb's

I used to commute on the Mid-Kent line from New Beckenham to London regularly back in the early 1980s. The EPBs used to put up some good performances between Lower Sydenham and Catford Bridge. Even better when 2HAPs would substitute for the non-available EPB.

Great video. Amazing to watch how fast the trains approached the stations back then. No wonder the journey times are slightly longer now even though Networkers can accelerate and brake faster.

fantastic video. I had a similar idea in the early 90s. I fimled various EPBs in different locations on the Mid Kent. Will have to put them on here if I ever work out how. I work on the EPB at the EKR, by the way.

I've waited a long long time for someone to put up a video like this. I thought it probably did'nt exist. I was Addiscombe Station resident train spotter from 1985 to 1993. Spent a lot of the time in the box with Any McHugo , Fluff and others. Doggit was guard , the carriage shed was allegedly haunted by a Ghostly shunter in Road 4 by a Grey intermediate outline with a white face. I visited the site in 1997. The Pigeon shat in roads 1 , 2 and 3 by not 4. I got the Bachman 2 EPB last year.

so, if the districts its routing had plied actually been tonier, then would the likes of CIGs or VEPs have instead serviced it?
