  • Everything you need to know to visit Calgary. Calgary is the largest city in the Canadian province of Alberta with over 1 million residents. Calgary is nicknamed "The Gateway to the Rockies" and offers amazing views of snow-capped mountains from the city. Calgary shows a unique blend of cosmopolitan city life and a western Canadian vibe. The city has a lively downtown area with museums, art galleries, and tasty restaurants. But you'll also find a strong western heritage on display particularly when Calgary hosts it’s annual Stampede, one of the biggest rodeos in the world.

@YellowProductions Calgary resident here, have been a follower for years and love your content! I found some easy to fix inaccuracies which you can fix with sticky notes:
    - At 1:46 NorthEast & NorthWest are tagged incorrectly on the map.
    - At 7:49 Banff is located west of Calgary, not east. The hotels between Calgary & Banff are on the West side of the town. I think you may have gotten confused when creating this video because we do also have tons of hotels on the east side of Calgary (opposite direction to Banff) because North East area of Calgary is the older part of Calgary where many people used to live in 1980s. As time passed more and more people moved to North West and South West.
    - Not a mistake but a comment: At 11:45 The towers near the Calgary Observation Tower have better views of Calgary. "Major Tom", one of Calgary's best restaurants, is on the top floor of one of those towers and offers excellent food, drinks, service and 360 degree views! :)
    - Small/Insignificant correction: At 11:50 , The Core USED to be Calgary's biggest mall in 2000s but it has been surpassed since 2009 by Cross Iron Mall; a MUCH bigger, newer & better mall, which is inspired by Mall of America & Edmonton Mall (2 biggest malls in the world). That being said, Cross Iron Mall is not close to downtown & is only accessible by car.

Thanks for those corrections.. yes. I clearly need to take my compass training again. I pinned your comment to the top to serve as the "sticky note" 😊

Just a couple more things … it’s west (not east) on the way to Banff. China Town is Centre Street not Ave. And the bridges that connect all the downtown buildings are actually called the +15 Network, locals call them the Plus 15. They are called that because generally, they are 15 feet off the ground and they’re super handy, especially in bad weather as you can go from building to building downtown without ever going outside. Roads called Trails are basically our freeways.

Calgary is such a cool city! I went last year to the Calgary Stampede with a close friend who lives there, and it was a lot of fun! It was basically one big party! I need to go back to explore more of the city as there is a lot I have yet to see.

Neat! We'll have to go back when it's Stampede season.. but since we were on our way to Banff the hotels there were much too expensive in July. So we opted for the inexpensive May season 😀

Calgary has been my home for more than 20 years now and I love it! It's perpetually growing and changing, and continues to attract new people, making for a continually growing population. It has doubled in size in the time that I've lived here. I hope you don't mind that I offer a quick correction to your overview of the four quadrants that the city is divided into since this is such a key element to how people find their way around - the NW and NE quadrants are the reverse of what you've noted. Ie. NW is top left, above the SW and NE is top right, above the SE.

You should have taken the princess to Drumheller, a historic Dinosaur town 90 minutes NE of Calgary. As for winter, in reality it's only bone chilling cold for a few weeks, the rest of the time it's really not that bad.

It's a pain finding a parking spot in downtown Calgary since some roads are one way and you have to drive around all over if you missed your exit.

I think you're sleeping on heritage park a bit. Gasoline alley if you're into cars is at minimum a 2 hour thing, and the rest of the place will take you at least 5 hours. Also the concessions are affordable. You can walk through the houses, there's a working farm, a vintage amusement park, a working steam train, a paddleboat, the place is fantastic.

@@YellowProductions Yeah I don't understand that in the least. They close at 5PM. In the summer the sun doesn't even set until 10pm. They have an extremely short season. I'm not saying stay open until 10pm but 7pm is viable.
