    Saw a few folks I know in your video! Also found it cool that we live in the same apartment building off-campus which is absolutely full of CMU upperclassmen.

    This was really cool! I"m an incoming graduate student for the LCS program and won't have a chance to walk around campus for months! Do you have any plans to cover the rest of the campus that isn't CS or psych related?

      I'm not sure yet, I probably got about half the campus buildings. We aren't a very large school though

    Hey guys, i am 18 years old and im in highschool learning html/css and learning c# with a little java. Im also going "computer and network technology" class like servers, ip, LAN, WAN, Switch and MAC adress and more. But im not sure what path to pursue, either i go programing, web development or (computer and network technology) i like them all the same but not sure what pay, how hard they each are to persue, what is easier aka takes less work and more. English is not my first langue so sorry if its bad 🙂

    • @becommingher
      @becommingher  Před 2 lety

      That's a really good start! There's more areas to CS than just web development and networks though. I would say that you should take the chance to explore other things. 'Programming' is not really an area of CS, it's simply the basic tools that Software Engineers use. If you have the chance to check out other areas like systems (think OS, databases, compilers) or AI/ML, or security, or even things that incorporate hardware like robotics. These are all examples I've taken from the various departments at CMU school of CS just to show that there are many ways you can go if you want to persue Computer Science. I would search around and check out what those fields do before making a decision as to what path to persue. The pay and work for each is dependent on the company you work for and for many of those how hard a job is depends on the specific team you are on. In general AI is a pretty hot topic but you need a higher (masters/phd) in it to really do interesting work. Other areas are usually fine with just a bachelor's.

      I am a 4th year, however my schedule this semester is pretty light and I thought it wouldn't be very representative of the experience, so I showed what my 2nd year spring semester schedule was instead.

    CMU computer science was my dream school, I visited CMU and loved it so much, and with 17% acceptance rate I thought I had a chance
    Then I looked at the fact that the school of computer science has a 3% acceptance rate and is legit as selective as Harvard lol

    • @becommingher
      @becommingher  Před 2 lety +9

      3% seems a bit tooo low, I think it's somewhere around 5% but yeah acceptance for SCS is pretty low. Just a shame that none of these schools can admit all the amazing students who deserve to go there :(

    Hi, I got into carnegie mellon as a transfer for sophomore year and I have mixed feelings I'm scared the classes will be overwhelmingly difficult, and I'm having a bad case of imposter syndrome!

    • @becommingher
      @becommingher  Před 2 lety +1

      The classes certainly are challenging, but remember that everyone feels that way. We have many, many free resources put in place to help students, and core cs courses have some of the most amazing TAs. Plus professors are super eager to talk to anyone who is struggling. As long as you make a group of friends to do h.w together with (almost everyone naturally does) everything will be fine. Also a majority of incoming freshmen each year also get imposter syndrome, so everyone understands! If you want more details feel free to message me on discord :)
