  • @davekempephotographyimages9266

    This was so helpful! I have one question. As far as light, it seems like when the sun raises and sets, it lights up and darkens quickly in Africa. Do you feel the 400 2.8 (as far a light availability) is enough, or do you feel a 5.6 would be sufficient for Africa? My first trip is coming up soon!

  • @andhib
    @andhib Před rokem

    Wow that's a lot of stuff! But you are a pro running workshops so to be expected. I've been to Kruger only a few times with minimal kit. It works for me both in the public Skukusa camp area where vehicles are limited to the roads and gravel tracks, and in a private reserve where the vehicles can go xc. The Z 400 f4.5 and 85 1.8 on Z7 & Z6ii worked well. Leveraging the crop ability of 45MP images to give higher effective range (85 covers 85-150, and 400 to 600). A two prime set with two bodies for no lens changes in the dust/rain. A compact and lightweight kit for long days out, and no issues with carry-on.

  • @geoffn8963
    @geoffn8963 Před rokem

    Great info especially about the monopod, upside down shooting. That is a great idea.
    I'm curious why one would opt for the 2xTC on the 400/2.8? Having the built-in TC, I would see much more versatility by using a 1.4TC instead. Then you can still take advantage of the flexibility and flip from 560/4 to 784/5.6 at anytime. Using the 2x limits you to 800/5.6 unless you are trying to get to 1120/8 which I doubt you are. I've seen some really detailed comparisons between using the 1.4 with built in 1.4 VS the 2.0 and the IQ seems to be nearly identical. Bringing a 1.4 would also give you more feasible redundancy for the 100-400 in case the 400/2.8 was broken. Then at least you have 560/8. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on that and why you chose the 2.0? Have a great trip!!

    I know you are probably not going to vlog in Africa. However, I would suggest that with whatever videos you take, compile a short video and do an off-camera narration and montage of any relevant photos you would like to share after you get home. This would be good P.R. for next years Africa trip. Don't ruin your trip but if time permits It would be nice to see what goes on.

  • @bradylangford5696

    Great video. Very helpful, particularly the monopod trick. My question relates to weight restrictions. I have an upcoming trip which includes 2 camps in Tanzania, 1 in Botswana, and another in South Africa. At least 2 of the bush flights I will be taking have a total weight limit of 33 pounds for all luggage including camera gear. If your camera bag weighs about 25 pounds, how do you deal with the weight restrictions?

  • @craigpiferphotography

    Thanks for sharing. Does Nikon have a smartphone app for controlling the camera? I'm thinking that would be great for your shots using your monopod setup. Instead of having to look down at the screen a few feet below you, you could actually have a larger screen and have more control over the camera.

    • @SteveMattheis
