This song makes it easy to understand how they got their name.
According to Bill Medley (the tall one)..." they then adopted the name "The Righteous Brothers" for the duo because black Marines from the El Toro Marine base started calling them "righteous brothers". At the end of a performance, a black U.S. Marine in the audience would shout, "That was righteous, brothers!", and would greet them with "Hey righteous brothers, how you doin'?" on meeting them."

Jamel...what you said obout "the music from the old days is where it's at". You understand more than most young folks ever will. I was in High School in core Chicago from 1962 to 66, Lane Tech. Then off to the Vietnam war. I did fine, so that's not my point. My point is that we had the most amazing music in those days. We hung out at our neighborhood greasy spoon restaurant. We took our junk yard cars to the drag strip on Friday and Saturday nights. (and that's a whole other story) We went to dances at our High School. And we drove down to the lake with our dates to "talk" (Uh huh) and listen to the music. WLS Chicago with Dick Biondi. I think you just figured it out, and good for you. Patricia Labbe I don’t think either one was married so it wasn’t an “affair “. It was a legitimate relationship. The controversy was that they were an interracial couple in the mid-60’s.

Etta James did a cover and made a “female” version of it. Hence the “wash your clothes” and “bake your bread”. The righteous brothers did this cover with Etta James’ version of the lyrics. The original, written by Willie Dixon and sung by Muddy Waters was different.

I would love it if you could do a reaction to "Michael Grimm and Larry Hanson join Bill Medley" on This Will be the Last Time (I Ever Have the Blues.) Original composition by Medley in his 70's. Live performance at Starlite Theatre in Branson MO. After a 60 year career as singer, songwriter producer, award winner and entertainer he deserves to have people know he is more than just a Righteous Brother.
