Nice video, although i must correct you (AKCHUALLY) on one point : the Subaru GX center diff is a viscous coupling limited slip, meaning that the front and rear diffs can't spin at much different speeds.
It allows a bit of slippage, but the more it slips, the more it heats up, the more it will then lock up (although it cannot achieve a super solid lock, it still locks pretty well).
I have a '99 Forester na (125hp EJ202) and when i put my foot down in 1st gear on loose surface, the rear kicks out. If the center diff was open, the front wheels would spin, given that during acceleration, the weight moves back, giving them traction, unlike the front.
This is also why you should always have the same 4 tyres at the same wear level on all 4 corners (and keep a spare that you rotate with the other wheels).
Sorry for the nerdy correction but I thought like posting this.
    Cheers !

I got a GX last year and it's a blast that car, may seem slow but it's one hell of a car hopefully you get it too ✌🏼

I've been looking at a GX for about a year and a half as a first car. I quite like the idea of a GX in its livery, sort of like an "All bark, no bite" car either that or a Sport R. They seem to be sensible options, if you want an impreza as a first.

@@Mr_Makina i got a 1.5r impreza. But i got a jzx100 and im building it on the side.

Does the viscous centre diff not have some slip-limiting capability between f/r? My understanding was that with these 2nd gen imprezas, the difference between a WRX and regular impreza was the rear viscous lsd (at least comparing manual cars). The STi got the centre planetary diff, rear and sometimes front LSDs.

center diff with viscous coupling is limited slip, that is reason why impreza must have exactly same tyres on al 4 wheels.

My 97’ Impreza has central diff with viscous clutch. I think in this video the car has to have the same viscous coupling in central differential. The author might have gotten something wrong or it is just me...

Yes it's wrong. Center diff is limited slip.

Can anyone tell me what the rear/front split is in a 1995 non-turbo 2.0 Impreza with automatic transmission?
I know the manual is 50:50, and that the automatic isn’t.

Hang on, so the explanation is all wrong? The Center differential is viscous on these cars......

So, while there is a smaller chance to slip on icy road from being AWD, once it slips with even one tire it loses all traction? I want AWD cars for being safer in winter conditions, but that is not very reassuring. :/

Well, there is mistake in the vid, as it has viscous center LSD, which means some power will always go to the a least one wheel per axle.

Is there any difference in the AWD system between the GX model and the GL model?

    • @jokumukamikalie
      @jokumukamikalie Před 3 lety

I imagine not, the turbo versions do have LSD in the rear and the STI's have that, and usually an LSD in the front too. Also they usually have adjustable center differential.
