Hearts of Iron IV is a grand strategy wargame developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. Released on June 6, 2016, it is the sequel to Hearts of Iron III and part of the Hearts of Iron series of grand strategy games focusing on World War II. The player may take control of any nation in the world in either 1936 or 1939 and lead them to victory or defeat against other countries.

I mean, there is research which currently exists that does indeed state that the Germans lacked sufficient machine tooling. I forget the paper name, but it is fascinating.
@@davidthorp01 they lackes sufficient pretty much everything: manpower, fuel, steel, and they were significantly handicapped by the poor logistics, with the bulk of the Wehrmacht relying on horses to transport supplies and equipment, and the german military command structure, which became more and more centralised and rigid over the course of the war, allowing less and less independence to officers, thanks in no small part to Adolf Hitler, whose mental state had deteriorated significantly over the course of the war, due in no small part to high amounts of stress and, of course, his drug usage, causing him to become more controlling than before, and allowing his subordinates less leeway when it came to executing his orders.
Add to that the fact that they were fighting a two front war for the last year, that they were being blockaded by the combined british and american navies, the ever-advancing, partly american/british supplied soviet wave of amply spent manpower, the collapse of the luftwaffe leading to heavy allied bombing and the opening of two additional fronts by the western allies in France and to a lesser extent in Italy, and you have yourself a lost war.
They really had all the cards stacked up against them, so while it may have seemed like they were an unstoppable steamroller at the beginning of the war, their inner workings couldn't catch up with the advancing front. They also suffered heavy casualties in the first few months of Operation Barbarossa, a fact rarely talked about when discussing the second world war.
The germans were great tacticians, a trait that can help you win many battles, but battles are not what decides a war. If you win a battle and capture a piece of land, the land is useless if your army is not properly equipped to defend it from a counterattack. Logistics is everything, and if there's a problem in delivering your supplies to the frontline, you might as well just send the soldiers in there with some sticks and rocks. I imagine that wouldn't go well, though, since not only would they be marching to certain death by machinegun fire, they'd also be starving. Poor logistics means low morale, and an army that is insufficiently equipped to fight. Both things that germany struggled with increasingly as the invasion into the soviet union ground to a halt, and eventually turned around in the soviets' favour.
In short, while germany may have had good performance in their battles, there was never any chance of them winning the war, and everyone who speculates otherwise is either delusional or (likely unknowingly) straying so far into the realm of fantasy that gandalf might as well come and summon our good old moustache man some birds to fly him to stalingrad, because that's about the only way he could have gotten there.

So I've sunk about 400 hours on the wrong focus sequence apparently

It spikes world tension so the allies are much stronger.
I usually go more or less historical, maybe go for Yugo before WW2 if I'm feeling spicy. There's no wrong sequence really, just different playstyles (I doubt Feedback's actually calculated absolutely all the variables here)
If you want to play multiplayer, what feedback does here is not really viable. It does only work in singleplayer because of ai incompetence and there are certainly other ways to defeat the ai.

I dont know how many factories Czechoslovakia has at the start of the game but i know most of them are in the Czech half and if you release Slovakia as a puppet, you get 50% compliance there so maybe you can get more factories that way.
Could be interesting but compliance is easy to grow, and as he's doing this early there's time for it.
Although, there more I think about it the more it looks like a good idea. Less garrisons, less equipment used and destroyed in garrisons, more industry at the start, plus give time to the puppet to do the industry focuses and then annex it.
@@TheRewasder97 the Slovakian puppet option is by far the best. The 50 compliance gives extra factories, manpower, and reduces resistance growth

Over 1000 and I watched with the idea I got to see 250 factories in 1939. I thought he was going to kill the Dutch ASAP to have the indies as a puppet and have Poland before having war with the allies. I got someone who only makes civs and loses a sh*t ton of equipment by exercise (you don't need to switch your staring army, after the rush to 750, 000 manpower you can delete them and train normally, enough time(queue before deleting) , especially if you wait till 1939). One more clickbait like this and I'm unsubbing

it's really worth it for the fighter... the allies spam an unbeleiveable amount of aircrafts on you.. so you absolutely need to rush it
@@Ronald98 You could research something else like support weapons or better anti air which will help you almost as much as the fighter. Also you can simply get the fighter bonus from the focus tree and then rush it. But wasting 3 years of research simply isn’t worth any tech.
@@jeffhask367 support weapons?? how are support weapons gonna help you when the enemy is bombing every division to almost 20% strength from the air? and better anti air won't help you when the allies have almost 10k planes above you... have you ever tried playing this game on hard or in multiplayer?? better fighters as germany is the way to go... even in singleplayer the AI will spam you with thousands of aircrafts that you as germany simply can't match.. so you absolutely need the upgraded fighters... and you need them even more when the two superpowers (USSR and USA) join the war against you
@@Ronald98 I meant support companies, sorry. About the anti air thing, you’d be surprised how many planes that can shoot down. As Finland I managed to shoot down about 600 planes of the USSR in about 6 months and unlike Finland you also have the capacity to produce a large Air Force. Also, France is basically doomed to fall if you play with at least some initiative like paradrop or naval invasion in single player even if you fail and invasion and to play multiplayer Germany you at least have to know how to defeat France. When France falls, it should be relatively easy to outproduce the UK in terms of fighters and building radio towers and anti air will most certainly improve Germany’s situation in single player. Multiplayer Germany loses about 60-90% of the games so even if you have good air or not, you’ll be outproduced in multiplayer anyway. And still, even if you do rush the fighter 2 you still won’t get it before early 39 and frankly 7 months isn’t enough to produce a fighter fleet that will defeat all the Allies especially since your production efficiency will get a hit and so it’s really irrelevant to rush techs with no bonus while you can research other things like say better engineers to give you much better entrenchment or better signal companies to give you initiative.
@@jeffhask367 that's not the phase i am talking about... even if you defeat the allies in europe, you are still going to need a good airforce to keep the US and the UK at bay AND to attack the soviets at the same time... the idea is you get the fighter early and produce more fighter 2's from the start... this will help you later in 1942 and 43 when the allies become OP... just like the current meta of researching Artillery instantly from the start of the game till you research artillery 3,even if you lose a few months of research it's worth it.. trust me, better technology like artillery 3 and fighter 3 and medium tanks 2 are better than those support companies or the few buffs you get

Mexico, Japan, and Brazil also are good skill ups for Germany. Sure is nice to have several Veteran army divisions prior to war in Europe.
I like the return of limited editing let’s plays. Just the amount of information and fun to watch. Though I do enjoy the edited videos as well, tend to make me laugh when you’ve worked on your dialogue.

I like a strategy of making colaboration government mission in France, so when i capitulate them they have 0 resistance and i have all of their factories
On your point regarding fighters... for the longest time I struggled with Czechoslovakia with the basic task of simply holding off Germany. Then one game I had the thought: build some heavy fighters and set them to intercept and I noticed that my forts weren't being so quickly dismantled. So I started a new game and just started pumping out masses of light fighters instead of spending so much effort fielding well equipped infantry divisions.
So as it turns out maintaining air superiority isn't all that important when all your troops are in super well prepared, fortified defensive positions. Set a horde of fighters to intercept and they can't damage your forts, so even the most basic of infantry divisions can hold out indefinitely.
Added bonus, you save a lot of fuel on intercept orders vs air superiority
You also could give republican Spain 50 old fighters.
Works wonders for ace generating
Giving obsolete planes away as lend-lease is obscenely powerful both for this and for getting Air XP quicker then you can spend them. The USSR is perfect for this since they start with hundreds of useless great-war airplanes they have zero use for. I usually end up sending half of them to the Republicans and the rest to China.
@@MaFo82 While this is true, the idea is you also lend lease the opposite side in the Spainish Civil War some planes, so that your volunteers have something to fight. As I've had several games as Axis powers, where the Russians just don't send any planes to Spain, or if they do, they're only CAS. Can get air XP from it... but ace generation chance is very low when there's no competing enemy fighters it seems.

yes, about 20 from poland 45 from france 15 from the Netherlands 10 from Belgium and 5 from Luxembourg

he is playing the game in elite difficulty so if you play the game with regular difficulty you would get more civs

Holy shit! learned quite a bit watching this one! I loved how you got the fighter aces and the next level fighter by 39(5 range & 5 engine) I'm still not sure how you are switching army templates and conversions of on field units to others so quickly(going to fast for me to see)
I love your channel. You put effort into making clever and original content and you are very entertaining to watch.
One item of note is that if you take the option to create the Slovak puppet in Fate of Czech, you also get 50% compliance on Bohemia and Moravia. If you take it all you get 0% compliance in those states. It’s certainly debatable, but I think that compliance is worth it, because that’s less garrison needed and less factory sabotage. Slovakia has few factories, and isn’t worth developing beyond what it has. You can always annex it later as well.

the focus tree rush can be improved buy converting all your divisions into tanks, building as many tank divisions as you have guns, training to 20%, then deploying them and then converting the divisions into infantry, you will have a massive deficit of guns, however by 39 that deficit should be dealt with.

Awesome video!!! Question… first how do you grind army xp in this build? I had to send 2 Austrian infantry and 2 mountaineers to Spain as everything had been converted to cavalry then motorized… but barely any success or xp…and not enough of weapons produced to get much from lend lease… by 1938 I had lots of air xp, some navy and little to no army… oh, and no aces at all in volunteer combat in my session, odd!! Thoughts?

I feel like it's better to grind air XP with CAS as it's doing it's mission continuously, bombing the enemy troops wherever there's combat. With fighters air XP is only being earned when there's enemy planes in the region.

Hey there dave i just saw some stuff that i saw the need to mention it try it and if you like it mention it kater on the first thing is train the fighters to 3 and then use the exploit it tends to generate more aces and waste less planes the other thing is do the four year plan and that schacht dude works better than sudetland i think ... hope it works !
