      Дело в том что у лобзика очень маленькая площадь соприкосновения с материалом и при неправильном случайном надавливании или наоборот ослаблении захвата ручки,лобзик режет криво,тогда как такая станина даёт отличную площать прилегания плюс ещё и прозрачность (но прозрачность оргстекла не надолго,ещё на пару роликов не больше,дальше помутнеет от царапин)

    • @WungusBill-lf4iu
      @WungusBill-lf4iu Před 7 dny

      Eh, kinda. Sometimes it makes sense to build a jig, sometimes you're better off just buying the right tool. It takes a bit of judgement. If the jig is fairly simple to make or there flat out isn't a reasonable tool for the task commercially available, go for it. If you find yourself building this frankenstein jigsaw to make it do work that another affordable and widely available tool (bandsaw or scroll saw) should be doing, you might be lost in the sauce. Who knows maybe there's a legitimate need for this thing somewhere where a benchtop tool simply wouldn't do, but I haven't seen it.

    • @charlieevergreen3514
      @charlieevergreen3514 Před 8 měsíci +4

      You might need the tool to be handheld, so a bandsaw is legit for some times, but not for others. The flush cut router is also reasonable, but that usually assumes that the edge has already been cut with another method, and refined with the router, though you could plunge cut with a router in a few passes. Regardless, perfecting the function of a jigsaw is a pretty great improvement, as their tendency to drift is usually a problem.

    • @tobybigham4196
      @tobybigham4196 Před 8 měsíci

      @@charlieevergreen3514 Jig saws are nice to have but are very niche like many other tools. You can try to upgrade it to the point that you feel like you might want to trust it. But most skilled wood workers would never use it for visible detail work! Funny enough, I had a large 12' board I rigged up a jig to help me hold it better on a bandsaw just last night. I honestly did think about using hand tools because of how awkward it was. But in the end, I wanted precision, and that is not something you will never get from a Jig Saw! I would rent time on a CnC before I compromised quality.
      Anytime I need to cut a hole for a sink or any work that I can hide with other material, a jig saw is my first goto!

    • @AlexDiesTrying
      @AlexDiesTrying Před 8 měsíci +2

      I'd love to use all the appropriate expensive tools. Some people are just not that rich and don't have the strength to change that.
      Friend of mine has 40k Euros (table saw, bandsaw, planer, router) worth of big machinery plus maybe 20k of small fry. Sure, that's cool. If I had inherited all that stuff from my dad I'd be using the good stuff, too.
      Another reason to have such a rig (and it can be built a bit sturdier, too): it's highly portable and very flexible.
      I do own a jigsaw. So until you buy me a bandsaw... I'll use what I can get.
      The table doesn't need to be that fancy.
      Just checked: a minimally usable bandsaw costs 100 Euro. So I admit 80% defeat.
      it's tiny. I also had my hands on a 8000€ one. It's better than this rig.
      But: If you want to make a curvy cut in the middle of a long board, most bandsaws won't do it without making multiple cuts. This rig can be built so the arch can be moved out of the way. I'm reaching, true.

    • @tobybigham4196
      @tobybigham4196 Před 8 měsíci +4

      @@AlexDiesTrying All those expensive toys are nice, but rarely needed except for big high end projects. Personally I limited to toys that are less than $500, and add in that I have very little real estate to put my toys on. If you have the time and you feel this hack can work for you, I would say go for it. But just check the calibration everytime you use it and it should work! Also remember there are plenty of shops that rent time and will let you use all their tools, and the cost isn't nuts if the project pays well, or if it just feels worth it to you!
      But if I were making a curvy cut in the middle of a long board, I would highly suggest using a router which is cheap and easy. Plunge cut your start, and slowly work out each strip about 1/4" at a time. If I knew more about the project you are talking about, I could be a lot more precise! There have been times I opted for hand saws, and oddly enough 3" angle grinder with a cut wheel! Remember, there are no wrong answers, just what you are willing to deal with and what is needed for the project!

      Plus you can just buy a scroll saw or band saw and the problem doesn't exist. Can also likely buy a jig saw attachment for less than it costs to make it yourself. There are a lot of people out there making jigs and attachments to do things that you could just buy a better tool for the job, for cheaper. This kind of approach is for people who live somewhere they can't buy the tool, or where their time is worth less so it doesn't cost as much for them to build it.
      Tl;dr this is something a poor Russian would and should do. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

      Apart from the acrylic (which isn't necessary), this rig costs about 10 bucks new and almost nothing if you have a supply of scrap. The ball bearings cost a buck each and nothing if you scavange thrown away inliners.

    Impressive. But not really a ‘hack’, just engineering a completely new tool. Bandsaw cuts from a mobile jigsaw.

    So was the 5 degree pitch intentional. The 1/8 th of an inch gap. Was it intentional? Because the amount of man hours you spent building that contraption, would of justified the cost for a new jigsaw or router. But it is impressive though.

    all that wasted time ,material and energy to do something he can do with his fingers or a brass hammer and a block of wood is ridiculous and so is the self proclaimed machinist that back him up in the comments.And after all that he still had to use a wood shim to keep the blade in the right place because he didn't countersink the nut behind the roller bearings

      @@MattLitkeRacingcould also just use a band saw or scroll saw. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ router like you said with a template and bearing bit would be most accurate and cleanest, I think. I'd prolly rough it with a jig saw and clean it up with a router so I didn't have to take multiple passes with the router.

      @MattLitkeRacing Před 10 měsíci

      @@feastoncarolina9544 sure many ways to do that that doesn’t include custom fabrication. My point about the router is they are affordable and portable. Unlike a bandsaw

      Agreed. A router would be much preferred here, and I would use a Flush trim bit ran against a jig. I can't imagine anyone being dumb enough to do precision cuts of this degree with a jig saw!
