Routers are the number 1 tool in professional shops to make circular cuts. They can also be added to jigs to make very precise circular cuts. Look up bourbon moth woodworking. He shows how great a router is for this.

This video is well-produced, but...why? Use the right tool for the job: a bandsaw. They're not that expensive, especially compared to all the tooling used here.
You might need the tool to be handheld, so a bandsaw is legit for some times, but not for others. The flush cut router is also reasonable, but that usually assumes that the edge has already been cut with another method, and refined with the router, though you could plunge cut with a router in a few passes. Regardless, perfecting the function of a jigsaw is a pretty great improvement, as their tendency to drift is usually a problem.

But most skilled wood workers would never use it for visible detail work! Funny enough, I had a large 12' board I rigged up a jig to help me hold it better on a bandsaw just last night. I honestly did think about using hand tools because of how awkward it was. But in the end, I wanted precision, and that is not something you will never get from a Jig Saw! I would rent time on a CnC before I compromised quality. Anytime I need to cut a hole for a sink or any work that I can hide with other material, a jig saw is my first goto!
I'd love to use all the appropriate expensive tools. Some people are just not that rich and don't have the strength to change that. Friend of mine has 40k Euros (table saw, bandsaw, planer, router) worth of big machinery plus maybe 20k of small fry. Sure, that's cool. If I had inherited all that stuff from my dad I'd be using the good stuff, too. Another reason to have such a rig (and it can be built a bit sturdier, too): it's highly portable and very flexible. I do own a jigsaw. So until you buy me a bandsaw... I'll use what I can get. The table doesn't need to be that fancy. Just checked: a minimally usable bandsaw costs 100 Euro. So I admit 80% defeat. it's tiny. I also had my hands on a 8000€ one. It's better than this rig. But: If you want to make a curvy cut in the middle of a long board, most bandsaws won't do it without making multiple cuts. This rig can be built so the arch can be moved out of the way. I'm reaching, true.

Personally I limited to toys that are less than $500, and add in that I have very little real estate to put my toys on. If you have the time and you feel this hack can work for you, I would say go for it. But just check the calibration everytime you use it and it should work! Also remember there are plenty of shops that rent time and will let you use all their tools, and the cost isn't nuts if the project pays well, or if it just feels worth it to you! But if I were making a curvy cut in the middle of a long board, I would highly suggest using a router which is cheap and easy. Plunge cut your start, and slowly work out each strip about 1/4" at a time. If I knew more about the project you are talking about, I could be a lot more precise! There have been times I opted for hand saws, and oddly enough 3" angle grinder with a cut wheel! Remember, there are no wrong answers, just what you are willing to deal with and what is needed for the project!

Эта насадка придает пилке большую жесткость, за счёт второй точки опоры вплотную к разрезу, плюс гасит вибрацию и изгиб этой самой пилки. Вы похоже, просто никогда не пользовалась лобзиком.

Plus you can just buy a scroll saw or band saw and the problem doesn't exist. Can also likely buy a jig saw attachment for less than it costs to make it yourself. There are a lot of people out there making jigs and attachments to do things that you could just buy a better tool for the job, for cheaper. This kind of approach is for people who live somewhere they can't buy the tool, or where their time is worth less so it doesn't cost as much for them to build it. Tl;dr this is something a poor Russian would and should do. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Apart from the acrylic (which isn't necessary), this rig costs about 10 bucks new and almost nothing if you have a supply of scrap. The ball bearings cost a buck each and nothing if you scavange thrown away inliners. And yeah, sometimes making a solution is more fun than buying one. We're stupid that way.

The very first thing I ever learnt about tools was: let the tool do its job, don't force it. Second thing I learnt: Use the correct tool for the job. This hack is pretty good but considering the limitations you've put on the tool, the money spent and the ongoing frustration, you would've been better off with a cheap bandsaw

Well you tried to mod it closer to some bandsaws while the right type of blade and speed to suit the job can go very far even changing the blade , keep the other one sometimes the heat causes the bend in the cut as well❤

Adjust the sole plait to as square as possible. Use the right blade for the job and the beast quality blade you can afford. Let the saw cut at it's own pace. A cheap jigsaw set up properly is better than any bandsaw if you don't know how to set it up.

Nice idea, but here in the USA scroll saws (not the same as jig saws) are VERY common on the used market. Often available for less than $75, I've seen them for less. Facebook Marketplace has three in my area (Boston) right now for $25-150, depending. Your mileage may vary.

There's an easier way to do this. All you gotta do is cut a slit in a piece of wood with the jigsaw then put that piece of wood around the blade and it will hold your blade straight

There's an easier way to do this. All you gotta do is cut a slit in a piece of wood with the jigsaw then put that piece of wood around the blade and it will hold your blade straight
