This song isn't a musical work of genius but it feels so real. He talks from the heart and this song is a favourite of mine, "I said I'd love you forever" - the way he says it just strikes a chord with me.

I don't know why but I could tell that this guy is so pure at his heart.He is really good person,actor,musician and after all a man.
Those who are criticising the lack of emotion in his voice , could ask themselves how emotive Lou Reeds voice is or Dylan's even Johnny Cash , as fabulous as he was , didn't exactly ooze sentimentality . I say , bloody good on him , he's obviously not that secure in his vocal ability , and he's still given it a go , I wish I was a smidgen as brave as him.I love the message behind his musical creativity , that it was something he started to show his kids that it's never too late to learn something new, and the benefits of perseverance, that's a wonderful gift to give your kids
I'm gonna add onto this: this album came out in 2015 and he said he started playing guitar 4 years back in 2011. He was 51. He also had no singing experience before this and said he started taking lessons. I mean for a guy in his 50s to just take on something new and give a go at making an album is pretty inspiring. It's interesting to me that he said writing the lyrics was the easiest part and the music was harder as I've started getting into song writing and I'm finding writing the music much easier than the lyrics.
In regards to the way he sung the song, I think this perfectly fits with the sound and overall tone. He's mentioned that he's put his acting career on hold to focus on his career as a writer and as a singer / songwriter. Adding onto what was said above, venturing out from his long career as an actor and just exploring other avenues, he seems like such a good role model for his kids.
Whilst I'm a huge fan of his as an actor and his versatility with the roles he's taken, I'm an even bigger fan of his as a person. Considering him about to turn 60 this year and exploring who he is as a singer / songwriter, is pretty awe inspiring.
The great thing about David is that his singing voice is the same as his speaking voice and this doesn't make him a bad singer as his voice sounds spectacular! and I think he is one of the few who can sing in his own voice.

Probably the most worthwhile album a person could buy in their life! It lifts your soul, whether troubled or not, it's a sheer pleasure to listen to, David's voice is true to himself, humble and sensual, he sings with sincerity, this album isn't about marketing himself. You are taken another time entirely, "where words fail, music speaks" well David has got it all covered :) There is no fail, as a fan of his for about 24 years now checking in and out of his path through life, it's huge what he has managed to accomplish, he sings his poetry now, his soul is opened up like a pandora box of goodness and soothing warmth for us all. You wonder who he is singing to, his past loves, his daughter, son...All the reasons why I have admired him since i was 11 is set in stone via this album. Songs excellent, music excellent, voice excellent. We all want to be the passenger in his freaking car!!
David's lyrics are pure genius, Unsaid Undone, Let It Rain, The Things... I hope people really hear the lyrics cause it's like they awaken your soul or something, initiatic...seriously anyone who can use the phrase "Hic Sunt Dracones" in a song it's David :) he remains his true self, but David and Golaith style, he's got an edge, a sword he might use it :) The Devil and religious references features a lot in all of David's work, including this album... hit the download button :) I may have gotten the last CD, best birthday gift. I remember as a kid hearing how he wished he could be a guitarist...this is a real dream he has made come true for himself, it's amazing, he's had an amazing pathway through life, but yet, he remains his humble self always. Via his lyrics you can really read how much like likes to help people and make them happy, he's a teacher, he was studying to be an English Lit teacher i think...that's not a rude word by the way, Lit hehe sorry bad mind ;) anyway best wishes :) Love his album i managed to get the last one practically. Well, I love the series. The song is appropriate for the context, since he is in the episode where the song is playing. I thought Duchovny was joking about his band. I learned something new. Thanks for introducing me to this song! "The Chair" stars Sandra Oh (Grey's Anatomy, Killing Eve) in comedy/dramatic role that is well written with a unique story. The music for series is well thought out and really good. Not quite sure about this one yet but it's deserving of another listen to be sure😊🤔
