    Very interesting video. I have a Rayo lamp and a 77 lantern and was always impressed by its output; even compared to my Blizzards. Thanks for the info.

      Awesome! They are really nice lanterns. I’d like one of the nickel plated center draft lamps, they are things of beauty. My 77 is a real cool lantern!

    Hi Rob, Good video! It is my understanding the Standard Oil kerosene wagons would drive down the streets and people who needed kerosene would flag the driver down. The company had the lanterns mounted on the side of the wagon. If you bought 15 gallons of kerosene or more at a time, then you received a free Rayo Pony lantern. This was a heck of a deal and I am sure it increased the kerosene sales greatly.

    Over the weekend I picked up a beautiful "Rayo" No. 82 cold blast (copper fount) with a Rayo No. 2 CB Bullseye globe. It is in phenomenal shape! I was told it is a wagon lantern as it has what I assume is a heat guard and a some sort of wire attachment mechanism on the rear. I can't find much on the different No. 82 models. Any idea what I may have found? Thanks!

      Wow, yes if it has a wire clip and a reflector, it’s a wagon dash lantern. Very rare with a copper fount!

    Rob I picked up a Rayo # 90 hot blast. It has similar features to that 17. Any guess on year ? I’m guessing teens. Thanks. Dennis🇺🇸

      Oh neat! That’s not as common. The No.17 is a smaller one with square air tubes, but same era, 1910s 🙏

      I picked up a Rayo #90 hot blast a little while back. It wasn’t in the best condition, rusty, missing the handle, fuel cap and leaked. But at least it had the Rayo globe. I solved the leak problem with a whole lot of Seal All. 😀. It really does burn nice and gets frequent use.

    Question. Has the Dietz lantern company ceased production?

    • @Rayo_Rob_No.17
      @Rayo_Rob_No.17  Před rokem +1

      Good question. Last I heard was that the Chinese government took possession of the company due to tax issues. That was back in 2019-2020 to my recollection, I’m not sure what the latest is.

    I was gifted a very rusty Rayo lantern. I can make out that it says Hotblast and says 66. Any idea how old it is?
    Thanks so much for the video

      Good chance it’s a No.65. The 5 is hard to read on those with rust. It sounds like a Pritchard Strong made Rayo, which easily dates to 1912-1919, give or take a few.

    I'm not paying $50.00 a gallon for fuel when it's less than $10.00 for K1 at the gas station, the odor doesn't bother me, and I'm the only one here.**I have found all K1 are not identical!

    When did rayo stop making embossed globes with made in usa? Doing a trash cleanout i found a defiance lantern & stpg co NO. 0 perfect with a clear embossed rayo globe. I'm trying to put a rough date on them.

      Ha, cool. So, the Rayo marked globes I've seen, and those I have in my Rayo lanterns weren't made by Rayo, Rayo was a brand name used by the Standard Oil Co. Most of the Rayo branded lanterns I own, were made for Rayo's brand name by Pritchard Strong. Embury eventually bought out Pritchard Strong in 1919-1920, and took up the contracts with Standard Oil. Most marked Rayo globes you'll find are from between 1910-1919, to my understanding. I'm not sure Embury continued to mark the globes into the 1920s, by that may be incorrect. I'd wager most marked Rayo globes were for the Pritchard Strong made examples.
