Hi i have a ps4 white light problem and need advice.
So i traded a faulty xbox one original for a supposed faulty ps4 original from a person that fixes consoles that wanted the Xbox for spares.
So on the day i got home with the ps4 i used my ps3 cables to power it on and it miraculously powered on which surprised me as the controller was connected properly using the usb cable.
But i saw the screen flash black then back to the home screen which i didn't know what is was then it did it once more and was displaying perfectly.
After about 5 mins of waiting for it too show some errors or switching off because i did not expect it to work i plugged in my usb speakers to the other usb port on the front while the controller was plugged in.
That was when the screen went black instantly. I didn't know what happened and pressed the eject button and a copy of GTA 5 came out which means the console was still powered on.
When i plug the controller and speakers in on my ps3 super slim at the same time is says too many devices drawing power something like that.
So i think it drew too much power on the ps4 and caused a wlod on the ps4.
Im trying to do a home repair with minimal tools and if you could give me some idea of what the usb ports could have shorted eg a transistor or fuses or something.
It still powers on and everything but that was the defining factor i think that contributed to the white light of death.
Any recommendations would help as ive watched a lot of CZcams videos and most are the ic chip or some transistor .

I do this in my spare time Phil. I buy IC's from over-seas sellers and test them. I do this to weed out bad sellers in this world to help prevent failures on customer boards.

Hey bro just a quick Tip. Pun intended. I use a knife sharpener to remake points on my tweezers and probes! Hope it helps you! Also another good one is to use a dremel tool with a buffer to make them look shiny and new!
I generally just buy new once a month because they only cost £1.50 from aliexpress lol. Thanks for that tip though I'll give it a try 😁

Those chips weren't faulty, they're fake! A lesson I've learned from my years on Aliexpress. Never buy from a new seller. I understand not all 5 star reviews are real. But they certainly help in working out if things are too good to be true. Hope you get your money back. Although don't hold your breath. I bought a pair of wireless earbuds that had good reviews. Full of static and fell apart. Never did my money back. But everything else (touch wood) has been fine. Come to think I have a few things I need to get for am Ambilight mod I want to do!
Yeah I'm just glad they didn't damage the apu mate to be honest, because it turned it blod when they were installed :/

I have a stumper for ya! It’s s WLOD but the video signal is partially present. The “no signal” message on the tv goes away and the screen turns black. The image will even flash on the screen really quick just to tease you and let you know the signal path is actually all there. But then it just stays black. It’ll also flash the image really quick when you start to power it down.
Replaced the encoder and 1 filter and it’s still doing the exact same thing.

Check to see if the chip is completely flat to the board. Mine was not completely flat. Still working on it tho. Replaced port, chip, 2 filters, and fuse. And ran enameled wire.

I did buy recently a little gem from Ali, a set of wired tweezers for my multimeter, abs brill for short testing smd stuff like caps and diodes or value testing resistors. Fitted perfectly on my Aldi's cheap as chips multimeter and I wondered how I managed without 'em for years lol Only couple quid too :D

If the console didn't work in 1080p would if had been a bad diode or another bad chip? Had a series X that would only display up to 720p and drove me crazy trying to find the problem

Is it normal for PS4 slim fan to sound loud with very graphical games like Res 3 remake ? I've changed thermal paste and new pads...
I know this may not be the case but I was wondering if the chips were not labeled in the correct orientation. I noticed on the bottom of the chip that the ground plate has a notch on one corner to show where pin one should be. Have you looked at the five chips and compared them to the chip you pulled from this board or one in your bin? I would be interested to know if maybe they were engraved incorrectly by accident and it was not caught.
Apparently they're fake chips mate so I wouldn't want to use them even if I could get them working, because who knows what kind of damage they could cause long term :(

HDMI port connections are all good,
The HDMI filters all have continuity, no bridges and no shorts,
The fuse on B side has continuity, the diodes don't have shorts
Replaced the MN864729, but still a WLOD
What am I missing? Or is this a CPU problem? ):
It is possible that you have a bad Southbridge. That can cause no display too. Unfortunately there's no way to verify the southbridge being the fault for display issues

@@ngonohtc5724 well I talked with the customer about it back then that it could be a south bridge problem and those chips were hard to get since I didnt have any donors at that time. So I didn’t fix it unfortunately ):

I did check those after the video and the pins that were shorted shouldn't have a short on those pins on any side of the chip :(
Hi @thecod3r I see that you bought chips from HMSKJIC store. Can you confirm that this seller is good? Because I ordered xbox one x retimers and still no luck. And I`m thinking its faulty IC or esd booster.
Hi mate, yeah I don't have issues with them at all. I've just received some esd boost ICs which may be the correct part for the one x (as it stands they cant be purchased) so I'll be doing some testing tonight to see I they work

Feel your pain on Ali peeps selling naughty no no's, I bought a joblot of Miyota 2115 movements from Ali and all looking good... found they had defective second hand shafts being almost flush to the pedestal inside meaning couldn't fit second hand. I'll buy automatic movements off Ali but never again any quartz as it seems a couple of these lary sellers simply buy rejects by the container load from Chinese factories and simply sell them as good.
I'd never buy a chip on Ali Express. So many counterfeiters. At a minimum, find a listing with hundreds or thousands of units sold.
