Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down Joker 2.

The new trailer has just dropped and in this video we're gonna be going through it all. After releasing at Cinemacon it's given us our first full look at the film and we'll be talking everything in it and what we know about the movie. When we last left Arthur Fleck he was in a psychiatric ward for killing Murray Franklin on tv. Beyond that though he'd also confessed to killing some notable businessmen on a subway along with his ex-coworker Randall. I'm guessing that his mothers smothering could be tied to him too and thus he's locked up for...the forseea...well until the revolving door policy at Arkham lets him escape.
There's also the death of the Waynes which happened at the height of Thomas' Mayoral campaign and Gotham is gonna get worse before it gets better.
Now that take us into this movie in which he'll be starting up a romance with Harley Quinn.
Several shots of them behind the scenes have been dropped along with a poster last week that showed the pair dancing. This was on a green background aping the original Green poster that we got for the first film.
This instantly lets you know that tonally the movie will be akin to the first one and it'll primarily centre around the pair.

I agree with your theory. I truly believe all of this movie will be made up in Arthur’s head with it ending with Harley being his psychiatrist. He imagines her being there with him sharing his same mental struggles because she comes off understanding and caring.

It could be some Shutter Island type move where she’s the psychiatrist pretending to be an inmate to prove he’s insane or guilty.
I was thinking that too, with a blend of shutter island. That she might be more amongst them imitating an inmate for severe patients or even them experimenting on a new method of therapy.

@@OutFrame maybe she sneaks into the asylum to uncover shitty, abusive arkham doctor behavior and actions, accidentally gets stuck in the asylum when she starts telling everyone she's not actually crazy, sees joker, realizes he IS insane but will be the only way for her to get out, tags along, gets stockholmed.

It refers to a psychiatric syndrome in which symptoms of psychosis are shared by two individuals who are in close association, typically family members or partners. This condition is rare and is often characterized by delusions, hallucinations, or other psychotic symptoms that are transmitted from one person to another within the relationship.
Contextually it means shared madness. You're correct only if you use it as a literal interpretation. However context defines the words

From the trailer, I got the idea that Arthur was “healed” and it’s her bring him down back to insanity and he’s battling that internally.
Worth noting that Harley is not shown locked up. Meaning she may not be an inmate

One thing I thought that was really cool about the trailer, is when he's escorted outside by the guards, and the umbrella colors change for the overhead shot reflecting the Jokers colors.
9:58 I could see them pulling a Shutter Island ending with Harley being his doctor but in the end she is beginning to be twisted rather than being twisted the whole time.
Much like in Shutter Island I can see her impersonating a fellow patient for her own safety and to gain his trust much like how the doctor in Shutter Island posed as a fellow detective.

Very solid theory. That would make the movie incredibly tragic.
Especially after Beau is Afraid, I can see how Phoenix has developed more and more nuance that will help inform and flesh out the Joker character in a concerningly magical way and I can't wait to see Gaga's Harley! Also I can't wait to pop a cork to the wails of the naysayers who have no taste.
I bet that final shot took a lot of takes. The lipstick could be CGI but I don’t think it is.
You don't think his side of the glass had a reflection too? I got $20 on 3 takes or less, no tricks (except maybe a standard touch up on the depth-of-field blur)
here's my take.
that scene with the lipstick is their first encounter. I think it starts with her being a criminal psychologist (she's crazy too so it helps her understand them)who finds him interesting. a pet project. something broken she can fix. she's so persuasive she somehow gets permission to go "undercover" into Arkham and study him. And in the process falls in love with him. Eventually going to court and winning his freedom. (or its possibly all in their heads) but that's my take on it.
I hope the Fallout Boy song America's Suite Hearts from their album Folie à Deux is in the movie. The music video had a very Joker and Harley theme to it.

The wedding clip we can see Gary as Arthur's best mate 👍🏻 it's cool that brought Gary back for a min or so. The teaser we saw first of Arthur in the rain, laughing/crying, I bet that's the ending. I bet he's crying/laughing because he's all alone again, because Harley dies and he's back at arkham. It's the first thing I said to me self. This trailer gave me the chills. I can't wait to see this. Another masterpiece right here 👍🏻

I must admit I had doubts when I heard lady Gaga was Harley Quinn , but the trailer totally erased those thoughts and helped me remember that she's actually a good actress ! I'm excited and enthralled ❤

It would be crazy if at the end we find out that this whole time arthur was imagining everything & that harley was an actual sane person that works in arkham & that they were just finishing up their session

I wouldn’t like that it would feel kinda cheap. I do believe she’s real and they do escape but there are definitely going to be imaginary scenes in the movie

I think Harley is supposed to be a music therapist here not a patient but I bet she’s really a psych student using Arthur as a case study but in the process goes mad herself
Also Arkham isn’t an “asylum” in this story it’s a state hospital so there wouldn’t be any “prisoners” just patients and staff
Could she be a doctor that is pretending to be a patient as part of his treatment? Other doctors can't get through to him so a young doctor (HQ) has an unconventional idea to help him.

The last scene of this trailer is absolutely beautiful. I am beyond hyped for this movie.
I agree somewhat DC when it comes to darker stuff like peacemaker,the batman, the joker etc.they gain more interest. If theyre doing a more lighthearted project it should be extremely well written and can mix tones.

Loved the trailer. My feeling is that Harley will be shown to have been someone on the streets who was influenced by Joker at the end of the first film and spends a short time in Arkham as a result. The two meet & bond and then Harley will be released and that's where the drama starts. Harley & Arthur will want to be together so if they can't be together inside Arkham then they'll be together outside of it, hence the courtroom attack & shots of them running away.

Thats amazing!!!onces more an extraordinary photografy and outstanding execution roles,but this time maybe the oscar goes for her....all of the musical scenes i guess its in arthur mind in feeling such desires towards harley,and we must not forget they're origins,here they've forced to beleive that also she is an arkham patient but in reality shes is a doctor of the same instituction and of arthur,and that is what we will see at the end probably,that all scenes between them is a trick of the arthur's mind and was all his fantasy for such care toward him and understanding by his doctor harleen quinzel , and maybe the thinks got twisted cause we dont know who's getting treat by who....
The scenes happening outside arkham are definitely all in their heads.
Upon further analysis, i think a batman for this joker would be a terrifying version. Batman is designed to scare criminals. To see batman from a mentally ill person would be different. Batman could always be changing sizes and appearances. He would be in shadows and constantly everywhere. Both dudes have issues for sure haha
What if… I mean what if, this alternate timeline is the Flashpoint timeline… and instead Bruce’s parents die, Bruce and Martha dies and Thomas becomes the lethal Batman from the flashpoint run 🤔

I had the exact same thought when I first saw the trailer, Harley is likely going to be a doctor there (similar to Leo in shutter island just the opposite scenario) also I bet her going into the courtroom is really just her as a doctor going there as a witness for Arthur.
I swear if I don't hear "Why do birds suddenly appear" in this movie...
Loved the first Joker. The only thing I didn't like about it is that the Joker is a strategic genius. It's one of the only ways he defeats his adversaries.
This could have been easily remedied by simply showing clipped newspaper articles or brief flashbacks of him being a chess prodigy dominating tournaments against adult chess masters. Or a similar effective display of his advanced intellect at a young age.
Either way, can't wait to see the sequel. A little worried about the musical aspect but if it's tied to some kind of mental break with reality it could be incredible to see.
I am not much of a DC fan. I don't actually follow any of it. But this Joker and this mini universe is super interesting to me. Joaquin plays a really cool version of Joker in my opinion. I am interested to see how the musical part is gonna feel. If it is a A Star Is Born kind of vibe, that's cool!

Don’t know why but I feel like she might be a doctor undercover as an inmate (like some kind of different way of doing therapy cause nothing else is reaching him). And at some point she just falls for him. So kinda keeping in play with the original storyline.

The ideia that Harley could just be Arthur's psychiatrist, and everything is in his head is pretty interesting, as many people pointed out. Another possible and more canon-like version could have Harley as an idealist and dedicated psychiatrist who was fired or just felt the budget cuts done to social and medical services during the previous movie were responsible for what happened to Arthur. She might have gotten too involved with this, trying to prove how impactful all that was to the creation of "The Joker".
Many Harley's origin stories tell how she too was a victim as a child and was "in the system". It would make sense if she had a journey that mirrors Arthur's, and we see it through flashbacks. Maybe during the first movie she has lost her job as a doctor, due to budget cuts, or just saw how it affected her patients. We might see how she feels about mental illness being treated as a crime (although, obviously, Joker is not simply ill, but she might be too involved with a story that is too much like hers to see it) and that may bring her down her own "descent into madness", something that might have started as a noble crusade, but her own background and mental struggles may lead her into a dark path.
Now, it's possible that Harley is a doctor and every interaction in the movie between Joker and her is just another delusion. But I have to think that it's a shared delusion, just based on the movie's title and the final scene. So maybe Harley's timeline is that she was on the outside and became obsessed with The Joker (and we will get all this in flashbacks). I would think that maybe Arthur was someone whose medical files she had access to, maybe before his breakdown (and she was not able to help him then) or just after. She could have been vocal about trying to show how he was not just some crazy person, but a product of his environment. The obsession about proving it and how this affects her could be the reason she ends up in Arkham. Perhaps her own delusion was that she did something relevant and helped Arthur, and her involvement in Arthur's trial is HER delirium (think about it, why would she be allowed to get inside the courtroom dressed like that?). It would be such a vile and cool thing if the movie shows towards the end how every interaction between Arthur and Harley is in her mind, and Arthur is still a very sick and frail person, all those awesome moments of them interacting in character are just in Harley's head...
Anyway, movie looks awesome, can't wait to see it.

Oh I think we will get Harley flashback scenes that show her similar arc and maybe that she was even at the riot at the end of the first film. They'll be intertwined.
Everyone I know that's into Bat-movies seems pretty hyped... it's too grim-gritty for my personal druthers, but it looks like it'll be good regardless. It's nice seeing Gaga get to stretch her acting chops too.

My Theory Time is that she was a psychiatrist/psychologist who fell for him during the end events of pt 1, then ended up getting committed herself for crimes she committed. Once in Arkham. she sees he's not who he was; who she fell for, and uses her knowledge to pull him back towards being the Joker.

I think it looks terrible. They've changed so much that made the original great. Is it a musical? I'll hold ultimate judgement until release, but I'm severely doubtful. Joaquin and Gaga will be brilliant, but it doesn't look right as a sequel.

Harley as a doctor would know how to check herself into Arkham. Possible to find him, after she became enamored by him in the first movie. After making contact she could check herself out, and help him from the outside.
If arthur fleck ends up bringing gotham to its knees in part three, and only a Batman can take him down would be epic.

It's interesting that the new title card for the movie has the same color scheme as The Batman (2022) only inverted. Maybe symbolizing how this universe is it's opposite.
