Yup, I run into this all the time here in Portland, Oregon. I use autohex 2 to read the ISN and transfer to a used good known DME and then code / program so the VIN transfers. New DME is spendy!

A small soda blaster nozzle can be very handy for cleaning corrosion off of connectors with relative ease. I use baking soda in one and it works great. Made by airboy who make air blow guns (for shop air blowing).

Greetings from Ireland, new to the channel great vid as per all of your other vids I’ve watched so far, this car looks like it suffered from as we used to call it in my last job, it was suffering from German leaves.....! We used to service a shed load of 1 and 3 series and always clean out the drains of the leaves as they could cause rain water going where you don’t want it too....!

How good are you with Mercedes can diagnoses? I have a 2014 Vito 2.2 diesel van that has no can signal at pin 6/14 at dl16 with Pico scope until I disconnect fuel pump module then I’m only getting can low signal and can appears to be mirroring can low but with only a very low voltage swing. I’m only new to using the scope, I’ve started getting into scoping since moving to the local JLR dealership as there electric’s are not the greatest even from new ! We run across communication issues on vehicles with only a few thousand kilometres on the clock ....! Interesting but head melting at the same time 😡

I've come across a product it's good at dissolving rust and corrosion and it's still used in coffee makers believe it or not and soon a small bottle you can get at the grocery store but this stuff works better than anything that I've ever found on the market today and it's inexpensive, a little bit of that on a on an old toothbrush and you will not believe what ends up happening with your electronic connections almost like brand new, and then you blow it out with some compressed air in your finished

literally had an a4 b6 2.0 na today with water damage in the pcm connector. caused coil control to be shorted to the injector control circuit because they are on the same connector, shitty design to begin with. coil controi is like 10% duty cycle while injector control is 80+. caused a burndown of couple of cyl3 coils because on time was so high. thorough pcm connector cleaning took care of the issue.

That sounds like replacing an entire wiring harness from the DMV? As I said previously you can use this corrosion cleaner in the connectors and on the DME itself and you will not believe just by using a toothbrush or a connector probe that's used for cleaning connectors how quickly this will clean that up in a matter of minutes versus spending hundreds of dollars on a DMV and a whole wiring harness? That unit is supposed to be covered with a weatherproof seal to begin with? What is the deal with that?

If they would just set the DME facing down with the connectors. its obvious that design would have problems. I bet every one of those with that design is going to have them same issue. I guess its their way of selling ecms and wiring harnesses forever. Do most bmw's have the ecm/dme in the same location and facing up like that? It will be the first place I check on anymore bmws.

ok but all the wires going to that DME are also most likely corroded... since the water goes down that ground cable and makes its way into the wiring harness. the water vent below the DME box is also probably clogged..same problem will return after a few rains. this is a dishonest fix. typical bmw money grab by the mechanic just throwing parts at it. to actually solve this problem you would have to remove pins from connectors that are corroded and replace wires that are dirty. this is why I fix my car myself and don't bring it to any shops. they also steal parts out of cars like these! fix the car yourself or don't get a European vehicle.
