  • On our recent trip to Kauai, Dustin’s uncle (Larry) and father (Paul) tagged along with us to visit this beautiful island. Since Larry never snorkeled before, we were picky as to where to take him. Kauai is the least developed of all the major Hawaiian Islands, it has pristine water and plenty of unique species of fish and other ocean creatures. However, depending on the season, the ocean current can be quite strong and extremely dangerous. This is our recommendation for the best snorkeling spots in Kauai for beginners. These snorkeling spots are also perfect during winters when the swells are too strong.

    Thank you.The fear for my wife for snorkeling would be sharks.It's great to know there are snorkeling areas with a seawall. I know it might be too shallow at Anini for sharks,but did you see any while you were there? Thanks for the floatie belt tip too.

      @ThatAdventureLife  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Matthew! Glad we could help! The floatie belt would be perfect for your wife. We never saw any sharks out there, but it is the ocean so we cant make any promises. I highly doubt that you would encounter them at Lydgate or Poipu though.

      5 people die WORLDWIDE from sharks…25,000/ year from dogs. You should be more concerned about the dogs of Kauai! lol

    Anini is so spread out that one can set up a spot away from the beach park area and not feel crowded. I was there during high surf in February 2022 and the reef kept the beach protected and good for snorkeling.

      That is probably my favorite spot. There is so much to explore there. 😁

    Please use reef safe sun screen instead of reef friendly. There is difference.

    Regarding snorkeling at Poipu Beach, you need to correct your advice to “stand-up” if your feel like you’re getting in trouble. You should avoid standing on coral at all costs because it kills the coral!

      plus pretty unsafe for feet. poipu can be pretty rough waves sometimes, but there was a little sand patch i found that i could stand on.

    Great vid! Anini is one of our faves. We haven’t snorkeled Lydgate in years, but after seeing this, I’m thinking we should swing by there on our upcoming trip next month. We’ve never seen this many turtles at Anini though. Maybe we’ve been snorkeling in the wrong place! Do you know where, in relation to the channel cut and boat ramp the cleaning station is?

    • @ThatAdventureLife
      @ThatAdventureLife  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you so much! from the boat ramp it is about 2/3 or 1/2 way down the beach on the right. You have to swim out a little ways, but the coral and sea life is totally worth it!

    Where is the best safest spot in anini for beginner and the turtle cleaning station. Is more on the left side or right side? Thanks

    • @ThatAdventureLife
      @ThatAdventureLife  Před rokem +1

      If I recall correctly, it is about 50-100 yards to the right of the boat ramp.

    Thank you for sharing. Which beach do you recommend for beginners and little kids?

    • @ThatAdventureLife
      @ThatAdventureLife  Před 2 lety

      Probably Lydgate with the little pools. The water is nice and calm there.

    Great informative video! Do you recommend taking your own snorkeling gear or is there somewhere you can rent swimming fins nearby?

    • @ThatAdventureLife
      @ThatAdventureLife  Před 3 lety

      We brought our own gear. I'm pretty sure you can rent snorkel gear around there. You should be able to search for them on Yelp or Google Maps.

    Avoid standing on corals. Don’t stand up.

    do you think Tunnels beach is also considered a beginners snorkeling beach? thanks in advance

    • @ThatAdventureLife
      @ThatAdventureLife  Před rokem

      Technically, yes. Novice snorkelers should stay close to the shore in the inner reef. The outer reef is only for advanced snorkelers, which has steep drop-offs and is subject to stronger currents. If you haven't snorkeled before or not a strong swimmer, we don't recommend going there.
      Also, Tunnels, like any north shore Kauai snorkeling spot, are seasonal. We recommend staying away in the winter as the waves are too big and the current too dangerous to attempt to snorkel here. We recommend in the winter to snorkel on the south side of Kauai.

      Not unless things have changed. We didn't need one when we went.
