    I'm riding an '01 Softail Standard with 149,850 miles on it, original owner. It went to 95" and a geared Andrews cam at 65K, still with original heads. Still runs just great!

    I had an '86 softail and never used the choke to start it. Lived in southern states of Australia. Just 2 twists of throttle then hit the go button. Loved that bike. Cheers from Australia...just subbed your channel

    2003 cold start with no choke is no joke especially with that many miles... This bike was loved!

    I'll bet any money that the previous owner was meticulous with oil and fluid changes. That's why this bike runs so nice. Also, someone jetted that carburetor perfectly! I agree with you about radios on motorcycles as well. The motorcycle is the music!!!

    • @DarkAristocrat
      @DarkAristocrat Před 5 lety

      Indeed man, indeed. Everything you said, about the fluids, carb, and the music, all of them are correct.

    You should let the motor idle for a few minutes,while you do a walk around.
    Then ride it,
    Instead of two videos.
    This way you can get more bikes shown sooner,and there's that added benefit of giving the motor a proper warm up.

    • @pateris
      @pateris Před 3 lety

      The engine really warms up faster if you start rolling, but at low revs. Though maybe it was different with carburators…

    I was blessed to work with "Step Stevenson" at Step's Chop shop in Bremerton, Washington. one of his bikes was a first edition evo softail he bought new 84 as I recall. He rode it to work on occasion, not very far as it made a disturbing engine noise we never heard before. He said he wanted to ride it until something poked out of the machine. He didn't take it apart as it had in excess of 160,000 documented miles on it. Sadly he passed before getting an answer.

    Great Standard Shawn. Just like the Sportster and Super Glide; the simplicity of the machine it attractive to me.
    No radio, cruise control, GPS, traction control etc. Just fill it up and go.

    Im happy to see this.. I am looking at 2002 Heritage softail classic firefighter se. and it has 22,000 miles about.. and I was not sure if that was considered high or not.. Seeing this bike with this mileage is amazing... Do you guys think it has been rebuilt at that high of mileage ? the one in the video? Im new to harleys so this is all a learning curve to me.. So the more comments the better.. Id appreciate it!

    It's called basic maintenance,,
    And for the naysayers that don't like to use the seafoam or the Marvel Mystery Oil or any additive in their fuel well they're just missing a lot more miles they could have had on their bike that's also maintenance that people forget,,, and the one least most maintain thing on the bike is evacuating refilling and bleeding your brakes should be done minimum once every two years..
    And correct clutch adjustment,,
    When you get that many miles on a bike you know how to do your maintenance and you do your homework can you keep it out of that stealership where they f****** rob you blind... Keep the shiny side up in the rubber side down,,,

    I bought my '96 Softail EVO last Spring with 39,000 miles. It's been rejetted and it starts without the choke. I really enjoy the bike, but it's very slow accellerating. Previous bikes include GSXR 1100s and Yamaha V-Max's. I think a good 250cc would out accellerate it. I have to be careful passing the logging trucks on the two lanes roads here in Northern Maine.

    • @PotatoeJoe69
      @PotatoeJoe69 Před 2 lety

      Yeah those Evo's don't make much power. 50ish hp to the wheel, not great. However they're easy too get good power out of.

    • @omarsalgado9715
      @omarsalgado9715 Před rokem

      70 bhp out of a TC 88 can be easily obtained. Those bikes feel like lazy and that's why I like them, but acceleration is no joke if the throttle is fully twisted. I can overtake those trucks in a two lane uphill road with no problem.

    Under 4K is a very good deal. This is a bike for its price I would recommend and I am an experienced Harley owner. I own a 2002 softail standard and it is the same thing as the fat boy and can be decked out the same. Even though these are classed as tourers they are actually cruisers.

    92k is good. I only have 55k on my 2000 Softail Heritage...baby steps. I fully expect to get 200K easy. I have a buddy with 175K on his TC88 motor.....still running great. Cam Tensioners and oil changes...that's about all these bulletproof motors need. Lot simpler than than the 103 in my 2016 Limited....which we like to travel across the country on...but prob won't make it 75K...we will see. The new Milwaukee 8's?....yeah, they are even more complicated! lol. Time will tell...but I'd rather have simpler motors. Evo's could get 300k with simple maintenance.
    the 2003 colors is still SO eye catching - love this bike - hope it found a good home.

      You don't have to adjust valves in a harley since they're solid lifters. The only belt in the bike is to the rear wheel and it's carbon fiber infused. I know a guy that finally broke his belt at 300k miles on a really old road glide. As far as chains the only one I know of is the timing chain. Most of the time they get replaced with gear driven components when guys change to larger cams. Not sure if this bike has them, but it's normally the case with high mileage bikes.
