- The city came to a standstill at 3.06pm, the exact moment the FA Cup semi-final match against Nottingham Forest was stopped on April 5, 1989. Flags on civic buildings were flown at half mast and the bells of the Town Hall tolled 96 times, one for every Liverpool fan killed in the tragedy. Traffic going through tunnels linking the city to the Wirral was stopped and the Mersey Ferries marked the anniversary by sounding their horns. Earlier Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp led his players in paying tribute to the victims, as the first team squad laid wreaths at Anfield in memory of the 96 supporters who died (top left). They were joined by the Liverpool Ladies team, academy sides and chief executive officer Peter Moore ahead of a minutes silence at 3.06pm, the moment the match was abandoned exactly 30 years ago.

30 Years 1989-2019
RIP 96. Still remember to the second ,rushing home for the match on tv and switching on, watching live with my husband as awful events unfolded. An awful, awful afternoon. The Pete Wylie tribute video is beautiful. (Never, ever forgotten) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I was at the memorial with my mum when we visited a few years back. We left two roses as our tribute and we just cried knowing that those people went to a match but never came back. We then said a prayer for the 96 and those who died fighting for them. It just hits you hard when you see the memorial in person. The solidarity we share as fans and as a team shows much more than admiration for a club. It shows that we are a family. We are lifelong reds fans and we will never lose our love for the 96, the fighters for justice and the football family we are a part of. No matter who you are, where you come from or what you believe in. Liverpool is a family. #WeAreLiverpool #WeAreFamily YNWA
