We look at this 64" longbow made my Bear Archery. We discuss how it compares to other longbows and then we test the bow to see how it shoots. www.archerysho...
A comment was made that there are very few longbow makers left in North America other than what China produces at a commercial level and this is true at a commercial production level however,. There are many excellent custom longbow /hybrid/recurve bowyers in North America thriving and making to order longbows and recurves. Granted they cost but not much more than an au sable. I love Bear bows, but sometimes supporting the custom bowyers keeps the true art of traditional bowmaking alive and well.
As an fyi, I have 4 Bear bows, Grizzly, Kodiak, Ausable and Montana. The Kodiak shoots and feels the best. Swift and hard hitter. Of course it is also the most expensive of the lot. Having said that I love them all and shoot them all. I am a huge Bear fan.
They are a nice looking bow but for the money I would buy a bodnik bow with a 30 year warranty over a 2 year warranty. Also that bow runs a 7” To 71/2” brace height. 👍🏼🏹🇺🇸 thank you sir for the review.
Im gutted, i got my ausable out for the first time in about a year today, put about 5 or 6 arrows down range and then one of the limbs partially de laminated. Ive always looked after my bows and de string them as soon as im finished, using a bow stringer of course. Never been dry fired or knocked around. What would cause this to happen ?
Is that a double lamination limb? Must be smooth. The Montana is a triple maple lamination. Almost like a 2x4. Indestructible, probably adds to that hand shock on the Montana though. I changed the hand grip on the Montana and took care of that. The das ilf longbow limbs is a triple lamination also. Anyways looks nice and nice review.
@@MarkMphonoman I put a shur-grip over the stock bear leather grip. So two grips. It made the riser a little thicker and that fit my hand better. The shur-grip is advertised as a vibration dampener and I feel like it works. I also moved to heavier arrows. Around 11 gpp. I can still feel a little “shock” on the Montana, but it is much more shootable.
G'day Anthony i had a 50lb Ausable longbow and it didn't perform to my expectations and developed stress lines on the bottom limb after 6 months and got a refund. I am now the proud owner of a hybrid Norseman longbow made by Nick lintern of N.S.W. i highly recommend norsman traditional bows.
Hi, probably You look first Jake Kaminski for the right shooting a barebow. It make no sense to measure the velocity if You release with a breakdown and without a ankerpoint! Sorry, but it's no Your strength !
love my montana. its a longbow for sure, but it sure is a nice shooting bow, very quiet, fast, accurate

I have both the Montana and Ausable. I like the Ausable much more. It is a more refined bow in every aspect.
Great shooting bow..sweet spot on mine 7.25.
Nice looking bow…thanks for sharing 👍🏻

Nice review, thanks.
Wear an arm guard(vambrace) to reduce the whack on your wrist.
Just give it 1 1/2" more Brace height, at least 1". That also will make the bow more quiet.
Took me three months to get a 59 Kodiak from Bear this year.
Hi Steve, really enjoy your content. Have you ever reviewed Athens archery compound bows? Regards Spiro from South Africa
You can buy them on their website

Steve whats your take on the striker RK1 longbow takedown reflex/deflex bow?
The “a” sable is pronounced like the word “watch”. It is a river and town in Michigan.
Have you tested or reviewed the bearpaw redman?
Curious, why are your arrows so long? Thanks, Mark
hello I am looking for 50 or 60 lb shutdown limbs to purchase.thank you

Wondering, exactly what did you do to eliminate hand shock? Thanks, Mark

Yes, to my knowledge its a maple/bamboo limb.
7- 7.5 brace according to bear...
I'm a huge bear fan. I'm on the fence whether to get an Ausable or go the custom made route from a local Bowyer 🤔

@@billytea5850 hey mate, that wouldn't be the explorer would it?
Cost me £394 pounds in 2013 😊
