- The basse dance "Jouissance vous donneray" from "Orchesographie" by Thoinot Arbeau, published in 1589. I am playing a Ralph Sweet three-hole pipe and a large Ben Harms tabor. In the book, Arbeau describes a 'conge' in the instructions for this dance; I have represented it as a short drum solo. I hope you like it!
Many thanks for sharing your fine playing. A superb demonstration of the 3-hole pipe. I saw one of these at the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth England recently & was fascinated. I feel a purchase coming on.....
Thank you! I much appreciate your comments. I hope to get some fine replicas of the Mary Rose pipes someday.
Nice job man!
This right here is Welsh traditional music. 🏴
I'm not sure if this basse danse ever actually made it into Welsh trad, but then again, I wouldn't be surprised if it did!
@@stefanmarkos basse danse?
That's what this version of "jouissance" is: a 16th century basse danse (a certain type of courtly dance)... not to be confused with the 15th century basse danse. But that's all academic. I'll play it anywhere, anytime! :)
@@stefanmarkos did it come from France?
The earliest sources for "Jouissance" are from 16th century France. In this vid, I'm playing the basse danse version from Orchesographie (1589). There are versions that are a bit earlier, mostly from France, for voices, or other instruments, and I'm also aware of a German lute tablature from around 1530.
Even so, I'm always surprised at how much popular entertainment managed to travel around in the middle ages and renaissance. I wouldn't be surprised if this tune ended up in the Welsh folk canon.
Awesome.
Mr dollak could you play this again with better recording its very good
Nope, I'm all the way over in Seattle, WA, USA.
Sounds nice. You might consider power washing the fence.
