    They were magical. Such a sense of joy in the early days. No wonder they zoomed right to the top. Cass was so talented & a live wire. Those overtones ringing!

      She had the smoothest moves... meanwhile Denny was easy to spot because he looked rather dorky onstage. Loved his voice, though.

      @@eclmclm4868 It was one of the first songs John Lennon wrote; he started working on it before the Hamburg days. To my knowledge, Rodgers and Hart had no part in it.

    This sensational harmonising group from the 60s can cover any song and make it their own, I've always loved the Mamas and the Papas , still do even to this day, tysm for sharing ❤❤

    Eu era um adolescente e já ouvia Mammas & Pappas, hoje aos 72 anos continuo ouvindo suas músicas. Para mim nunca envelheceram.

    The Mamas and The Papas were among the few acts whose LP tracks would get radio play. I Call Your Name was one of them.

    I am 65 on the 22nd of next Month and hearing these old Records from the 1960's as Certainly bought back fond Memories,those were the days when you had decent Music and you could go out and buy Quality I live in Bloxwich-Walsall and the Market in Walsall usto go from the the Bottom of the hill all the way to the Top and I usto listen to the Radio on Saturday Morning

      @@tjfSIM So true. But also I feel sad for John who may have started out as a pure and happy spirit. At least this is the impression he makes on me in this video. He loves the music and feels such joy at this moment. And then it all went to drugs and decadence.

    I can't believe Mama cass elliot passed away in the 1970s and Danny dophrie and John Phillips died later on ❤ but michelle phillips still alive and well through the smoking and drugs

    Of all the singers in rock, folk folk-rock, pop, hell, you name the genre, Cass had the BEST VOICE OF ALL. That includes blues, c&w, broadway and Streisand, btw.

    Arguably, one of, if not THE best songs recorded by The Mamas and Papas! As far as I am concerned, that group only needed John's musical ability and Cass Elliot's voice. The other two members were just eye candy. Denny could sing okay, I guess; however, I would have preferred Cass on ALL the leads. I remember buying their first album just for THIS song.

      As far as I can tell, they never sang live on any tv performance, and except for Monterey Pop I don't know if there's any footage of them performing live in concert. They studio magic was a big part of their sound.

      @@alanscopp1114 Michelle has stated on camera that they didn't have instrumental tapes to sing live to and that they usually sang live with the full records on TV appearances. She joked that when they sang on Ed Sullivan's show with live mics, it was essentially "another overdub". You can look up their December 11, 1965 appearance on Shindig and hear them singing several songs live. Also, their March appearance on Hullabaloo includes them singing "Nowhere Man" live in the Top Pop segment.
