Very few, in any, CZcamsrs would do a 7 minute video in 1 take with multiple interacting elements and a piece of string quartet music commissioned specially for it. You’ve exceeded your already high bar. Bravo 👏

Yeah, it's crazy how much work went into this, when a simpler video would have sufficed. No effort was spared on this one, and it shows.

@@randomviewer3494 I don't think so, it looks like one cut. The only odd thing I saw was at 6:02 when the violinist appears. I'm not sure if that was accomplished with clever lighting or a mask added in compositing to fade her in, but she was in fact there in the studio with James. If there were any cuts and I don't think there were, it's undetectable. Bravo to James for a hugely entertaining and wonderfully made video!

@@randomviewer3494 @andreakhaid James Hoffman verified in the comments on the other video (not this BTS one) that it was all done in one shot. I think he said the violinist appearing was movie magic, but I cannot find that comment offhand.
As a long time crew member, I really want to taste the coffee available in craft services on a James Hoffman video. Hope it sings, and dances.
They had a great coffee truck at this location, so everyone was happy!

I knew it! When I saw the production level on the last vid I thought, James HAS to have a BTS coming for this.
In a world where YT videos are all becoming just a bunch of 3 second AI gens strung together, your video drops like a bom to blow them out of the water and remind everyone what quality looks like.
I swear, your last vid was higher production value than (possibly) most television shows nowdays.
I love your content, but I want to thank you particularly for making a video this well-crafted. I believe it is this effort that does more than just make a great video. If it doesn't raise the bar for other creators, it's at least a wakeup call for them to not go any lower. Terrific work!

This reminds me of my high school competitive drama days. Huge props to the stage crew silently but quickly moving everything on and off stage. We practiced that so much and it was easily the hardest thing to do well and consistently; acting was easy by comparison. Bravo!

With a rig like that it's much easier, and it steadies the shot. Still heavy though so yeah, never skips leg day.

The expenses for studio, equipment, props, actors, musicians, composer, crew, post production…? I wonder - £100000, give or take? Easily more, I guess. I’d have been nervous, too. But you made it look so easy.

It was probably closer to £30,000 to £35,000 or so based on a rough estimate of their crew and rental costs. That's still a bloody hell of a lot of money for a CZcams video.
Just watched a recent video interviewing Mark Rober (Colin and Samir's YT channel) where they shadowed him for a day of shooting. He estimated the cost of that video at $400k USD. He went on to say that a video coming out later in the year cost $3 million to make. The fact that they are STILL making a profit with these costs is the truly mind blowing fact of the current content creator economy, at least in the upper echelons of subscriber count channels.
the economics of this are indeed baffling.
It’s videos like this that are reminders to find and explore your passion - whether it’s rock climbing, playing piano, cooking, painting - I hope everyone here finds that one true passion like James with coffee.

I'm so glad you made a BTS video. The whole time watching the original I was in awe of the whole shot. Mad props to the camera operator.
I love this so much. Having done theater in the past I definitely appreciate the effort that goes into even subtle details which few people consciously notice but which contribute to a polished, cohesive result.
So much fun watching all the behind the scenes work, especially all the frantic moving props around while they're out of the frame!

The finished product was stunning to watch. I paused after a few seconds and decided that the production quality (and insanity) of this video deserves a freshly cleaned monitor to be properly enjoyed. So I dusted off my screen and started watching from the beginning once more.

I did theater in high school on the crew side, and let me tell you, I have rarely been so exhausted in my life, more than 20 years out of high school, than I was doing high school theater. It is such an investment of time and energy that it is, in fact, the high bar for comparison for how tired I feel. Yet somehow I managed to keep going. Probably a mix of being young and copious amounts of caffeine.
Dear James in the past,
You are creating something stunning, outstanding, and robust. Jokes aside, this one-er will go down as my favourite expression of love and passion for a thing to date. It's worth it, and the effort now will propel this project to stand the test of time. Bravo. Bravo. Bravo.
