- Yesterday we showed how we made the door panels out of 1/8 masonite now we're going to glue the vinyl onto the panel. We're going to use a multipurpose 3M spray adhesive. Really hoping we get a nice seamless application without any wrinkles or flaws 😅🤞

You should have put some 1/4" foam on the door card before you put the vinyl on., Just my opinion.
I 100% love you’re doing this right in front of the camera. You’re trying something new. If it works out or doesn’t work out it’s totally awesome to watch.
Thank you
Ive used contact cement to install formica onto various surfaces and one key thing is that you apply it to both surfaces. It must be dry to the touch before joining the pieces together...it should be rolled afterwards to lock things in. I think you are doing well but not waiting long enough for the adhesive to set up prior to joining them... other folks have good ideas you might consider
1/16 th ABS is the best material to use to fabricate door cards, you can form them to any shape you desire and hold staples and water proof. I do upholstery and it is the only material i use for door cards. Mounts invisible with no external screws whatsoever.
Great job brother,!
With all the diy. you tube channels, you would think they would watch and learn. Well, I learned how not to do interior panels.😮😮
I built a bass boat in the late 80s. I used 77 adhesive on the carpet. To this day it is still gokding tight. Used right that stuff is great 👍👍
I remember as a kid doing this with my dad. He was old old school 🎒. I wish I still had that opportunity for that education😢
Seems like everone is in love with th 10:32 e interior color scheme . Im not . I got a opinion to so calm down . Jolene love i wwas hoping for a light tan color for the interior is all . Now thats out of the way lets just watch the process ! Take it away chad ! Love this show !
Yeah not digging that yellow, would of went with the tan.
Yeah, I was hoping for a tan/creme interior, but what do I know!! I grew up in the 50's and NEVER saw a "neon(?) green interior, but am still loving the build and wishing C and J the very best of luck!!
I wasn't in love with the body color, but... pea soup green? Everybody has their own taste, and Chad, you do you. I admire your work and no disrespect, but of all the vehicles you've done, for me, the colors don't work.
Hey Chad, from my experience 3M adhesive will release if it gets hot... meaning if the car is at a out door event and car show and it's a hot day the glue will release.. I use professional adhesive now like the upholstery shops do.. just trying to help man...
Sewing down the edges and adding piping . With TAN colored material . Sorry Jolene this time I disagree with you.
I like the white side. Still not a fan of the color scheme, though it is your choice.
I use a micro thin foam beneath the fabric so it gives it some cushion and panel is thicker.
Hey Chad & Jolene, Sunday fun day! Chad the way that I was shown to do the holes is to cut an X in the hole that gives you 4 tabs that you can glue down on the back side of the door card. Both of you did a great job of setting the material on with no wrinkles! Jolene great camera & video work as always!
I’ve done this with vinyl and fabric. It really improves the appearance if you add mdf inserts of different shapes , whatever you desire. You glue these directly to panel and glue your material or vinyl over top. It really adds character to your panel.
Couple tips after 45 years in the auto upholstery biz: You need to use contact cement such as Dap Weldwood Landau Top adhesive for gluing upholstery. It can be sprayed or brushed on. You can buy it at places like Home Depot or an upholstery supply vendor. Follow the instructions on the can. On the lower curved corners of your door panels, you need to make pie-cuts or slits about 1/2" apart all the way around the curve, stopping about 1/4" from the edge of the panel. Glue, heat, stretch, and wrap to the backside. You will not get the lumps of overlapped fabric on the corners that you have now. 1/4" closed-cell foam glued to the panel board before the fabric is glued on gives a nice soft feel to the door panel. Very inexpensive and easy to work with. The Bad Chad chrome looks nice but I'm not sure it will stay attached to the door panel if the car gets hot inside. It is made to stick to metal, not fabric.
It wouldn’t hurt ya to visit an upholstery shop and see how they do corners. ???
Or maybe watch a CZcams video 😂
@@leblanckerry4826 + I watched that for him and it's all in my comment on top !!
@@leblanckerry4826it's actually easy to make a so-called pig's ear at the back, I don't know if you've heard of it
@@leblanckerry4826 too busy making them... but University of CZcams is awesome.
Livin and learnin that what life is,love you’re cars
The plastic makes a good moisture barrier protecting the door cards.
Looking great guys!!! Love the colours it’s going to stand out!
Exactly like you want and nobody else got!!!
Chad and Jolene easier way to do that before you even spread the glue layer material on your board where you want it fold it in half just fold back. You can spray both sides but tack up then you do one side at a time you pull one side down then you can spray the glue on the other side pull the other way.
Exactly, and don’t cut the access material off the corners until after you have the material stretched around the corners and glued down
The paint job looks great
@@leblanckerry4826 the bird is using is not rigid enough bad, bad choice, and half of that he should be using weld bond adhesive, same stuff you use your vinyl tops or something equivalent is what all decent fabric shops use. Take a spray can of three monkeys and throw it in the trash.
It's always good to try new ways and new things. Great way to learn. You are building new skills. That is always a good thing.
the mad genious strikes again
Might be an idea to watch some You Tube videos on trimming the corners of the vinyl to the door panels Chad
Enjoying the videos Jolene and chad
Killing me with the over spray going on that pretty black car.
Bruh all i could think about!
guys it is what it is if don't like move on..
@@James-qr6rp move on this>
love your choice of colors jolene!
So far so good 👍
A wallpaper roller might work well for this project.
You have to pull the material good and tight on the corners to keep it from humping up. Also, leave about 1 inch in the very corner by cutting the V out on either side of the corner
I have been around a long time an like to think I am pretty good when it comes to building led sleds and hot rods. BUT I must admit I have never built or painted one brown with GREEN enterior. as your work is top drawer you need to get advise on colors from another source. The colors that you are using lends nothing to the car as much as a complementery color on the interior would have done. Just my opinion but green sucks.
Hi Chad and Jolene. You two are great. I see how Chad you try n give encouragement. You try to help people understand. I appreciate that very much. Take care you two
The car is beautiful the spray work it's magnificently down Chad your a pro in your work
Oh boy ❤ Jolene is guest staring,,,we love when she's on..🥰
Ya could clamp a yard stick on top of folds till glue dries. Keeps it nice and flat
It’s contact cement and is supposed to be dry when it’s ready to be glued down
Could also choose a different color...
hey jolene and chad.. if the material is not sticking on the inner part of the corners.. maybe you can pick up an electric stapler from any local harware store and put staples in it just to secure the corners just make sure you get the correct length of staples so it doesnt go all the way thru the board..
Stainless staples
Got to hand it to you, you’ll have a go at anything. I hope the flexible chrome sticks to vinyl.
CONGRATULATIONS
GREAT JOB
AND BEAUTIFUL CONTRIBUTION THE THE MEN WHI THOUGHT THEY COULDN'T DO IT,
BEAUTIFUL PARTNERSHIP 💓 YOU AND THE TRUE QUEEN AND KING OF AUTO REMODOLING
I VE LEANED WELDING FROM YOU MY FRIENDS GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS
IM 73 AND STILL DOING MY THING
The wheels painted that off green colour would really tie everything together nice 👍🏻
Wrong glue, that stuff let's go after a short time.
Great video thank you.
The whole series is hard to watch but the realization to me us is just how much it pays to be on TV and
Ever notice how sometimes Chad softly talks and sounds just like how Bob Ross talked when painting? An artist at work. 😂😂😂
Word of advice that spray ist good enough for long term, use industrial glue, I used that on 64 ford I rebuilt and at about 3 hrs started coming loose. Now I have to redo it... lesson learned
Kool color Jolene
Great that Chad try’s new things. He is not afraid to show that he’s human and can make mistakes.
Great job Chad & Jolene
Awesome 👌
Awesome, Thanks
That. Colour. Is. So. Right. Thanks
Chad/Jolene - It’s time you get some chrome “BUILT BY HILTZ” badges made to put on the trunk/dash of you builds upon completion.
Thanks Chad, I used your technique with the hanger, I messed up a exhaust pipe install you showed just fix it. Thanks Joelien for the camera close up.
Looking great Bad Chad Sweet Jolene theirs a fine art to doing interior work its tedious for sure reminds me of the ol customized vans inthe late 60,s 70,s though but its looking sweet she will be a great ol cruiser for car shows go to towner also that ol girl needs side pipes bad chad great videos as usual sweet jolene great work giys
The Chocolate 50s gonna look well smart 👍 Go for it Team Hiltz 👁 🐅 👌
Good job guys staples work Good on the edges
that' snake skin material would work fantastic for the doors. 👌
Always entertaining
Great your'e showing us we can do our own door panels
It looks good
Cool tip. My mom did upholstery for 45 years . I grew up helping her. So my tip. Hold your glue back further so it comes out stringy. Before you glue anything place your material on the board and fold the material back half way then spray glue on material and board. Work from the middle out till you get to edge. Next fold back other half and pull back a bit until a little of the other glue from other side is exposed, maby an inch then spray glue on other half and start in middle again and work your way out. Note glue needs to be tacky and not wet. You don't have much time so at this point so just work wrinkles out while laying the material from the middle. Once it's stuck you will have a hard time pulling it up
Also on the round corners you only need about a quarter inch overlay on back side of corners and this will save you alot if time pulling wrinkles. Kinda like when you have to much steal welding. It gets in the way and won't let it form properly.
The reason you do not want the glue to wet is for multiple reasons but most important is you will see finger prints where the extra wet glue dissolves the material and turns it a bit rubbery . This type glue needs air to dry. If it's not kicked off before applying venal it may never dry or melt the material.
I would still use the plastic as a moisture barrier. Not too bad on this one.
that would have a adverse effect and create condensation, i made that booboo before & also creates static
Could probably learn how to do this on you tube
Nice work !
Being your first door card makes it understandable that you messed up on the corners Chad. Now you have multiple layers on the corner material and seams right where a foot will scrape and start wearing it. These corners will make it hard to lay close to the door frame and again wearing or popping out. Next time try one piece of material at the corner pull tight the first one then pie cut material at the end farthest from the corner edge. It is kind of like metal working except you can't add material if cut short (weird seam!) or fill a hole like metal. There are lots of videos online showing techniques. Keep slugging away Chad your build results are always great.
lookin good
I'm a retired boat builder and would use Velcro,we've used it for years on ocean going catamarans with no problems and by the way use Masonite or ply they will last a lot better
Chad have done a couple cars but tons of boat interiors best way to do this is put some plastic on the floor put the fabric on the floor spray the adhesive then lay the mdf on top starting at one end its much easier to get it centered that way on the corners make them round and as close as you can to finished size .
The 3M contact glue works really well. A new product to me, it's a bit of info that I'll file away for future use. Looking forward to tomorrows video.
LOOKIN BETTER
Chad, I can't believe you are spraying ANYTHING in such close proximity to the 50! Also, doing this rectangular item on a smaller ROUND table! Working in this garage without the proper tools and or equipment.
great camera work jolene
Jolene I love that green. That’s exactly what I said in another video. I said I would go with green and name the car “mint chocolate”. 😁🤙🏼
Need to lay material on board fold in half do half at a time
My son is a professional sign artist and uses a lot of vinal in his work. You always start in the middle and apply one side at a time, then once it is down, go from the middle the other direction. Works the same way for upholstery.
I think y’all are gonna do fine it’s gonna look great go for it
3m has a spray just for interiors - while super 77 will work - it will show its weakness in heat and release - 3m has the website that shows the correct spray # to use. I have used super 77 for years in the sign world - great spray glue
Put some bad Chad crome on the door panels.
Nice 👍
It's great to do something you don't know and make it work
Thats a good looking black Ford in the background
thanks Chad i am going to try this on my 1951 ford f1 pickup truck
To glue the Vinal on use contact adhesive and apply to both surfaces with a foam roller. Work it from the middle out . Use a laminate roller to press it onto the substrate.
Yeah, that might look well. It will look pretty good nice and then the pattern you’re talking about with the brown. I think that’ll look nice too. You know you can always wrap those button. Things are pushing in with the brown that way you’ll have the brown accent on the buttons and the brown on the pattern with your chrome, I think they look pretty cool, just some ideas ideas
you got this no doubt. Might want to look at different glue options for fabric over fabric n yer chrome....just a thought
good job Chad
That glue is going get on the cars paint it travals
It can float where you don't want it!
Nice, I like these creative works. 😎👍
The color match is fine
Maybe the corners can be refined a little...
Chad, WD40 works great for cleanup it dissolves that adhesive easily. Spray some on a clean cloth and very carefully remove overspray. It works!
That'll look sharp
I don't do interiors but I would have trimmed the wraparound material down on the corners so it's easier to work with. Door skins are done trimmed down so it would work on this application.
It’s very hard to watch Chad out of his element, but at least he’s trying and showing us we should also try something different. 😊
Nice job
Fold it in half. Spray both the vinyl and the liner with spray adhesive and do half at a time. Much easier to manage
Good evening Jolene and chad and I hope you had a wonderful weekend
Nice work brother!
I was advised to use 3m 90 not 70 for my headliner. It worked!
mdf just soaks that up you need massonite has smooth side on one side thats the side you glue to
Should give this car to Doug, i think its a perfect match for him😎
Yeee!
That much 3M adhesive- it will hold another 75 years - holy cow
Heat the vinyl round the corners, 3mm staples no foam 5mm with , heat pull then staple as you move around boom..
Sunday Funday!!!
Hi Jolene and Chad. Everyone has a way they would do it but I found out do it and learn from your mistakes. Chad you are the only one who has to be satisfied with your work. God bless and have a blessed evening and night
very nice job
