  • The pickup truck segment is no longer just about flaunting muscle and capability; far from it. For top-end models like this you’d better be bringing smarts and a heaping dose of luxury if you want to compete. And for this all-new Ram Limited, the bar has just been raised.

    Bought my new Ram Limited back in August so I didn’t get (or want) the e-torque system... mine has the air suspension and 12.5 inch unconnect system... the truck has been amazing and it’s great on cross country trips... My folks have a Range Rover and this truck is every bit as nice... as for the hater comments about repairs to electronic items that might fail, I also have an extended warranty for 6 years so these are not concerns for me personally... all I wanted to say is that this is really a great truck and imho it stands head and shoulders over the competitors... especially the new Denali, which I found very underwhelming.

    Great review as always. Was behind one making a right turn at a 'tight intersection.' These trucks are just way too big as it could barely make the right turn without the other driver making the left to move back slightly. It looked like an 18 Wheeler making that slow turn; checking the right mirror etc.. I'm really not sure why they need to be this big now.

    I must say RAM does him some very innovative features including their 12 plus in screen and air suspension with coil springs in the rear but I prefer the Ford for overall capability and performance in my opinion it's just a more well-rounded vehicle it doesn't do anything peticularly perfect but it does everything fairly well instead of in just a couple of areas compared to the other trucks in this segment

    • @scottfurlong5475

      I have a Ram and I have the same opinion of it. I thing it does everything I need it to do rather well. I like the interior ergos and looks and feels very nice inside. In saying that, the 2017 F150 I drove had a great ride but I just couldn't own it. Egress was a problem. I remember having issues with the position of the interior door handle and lower dash contour, something like that. I was in one a couple of days ago for about an hour and a half doing deliveries for the shop during some down time and I liked driving it but hated getting in and out of it.

    • @scottfurlong5475
      @scottfurlong5475 Před 5 lety +2

      It's not the best truck for everyone. It is for me but everyone is different. You need to get in every one of them and drive them. I found that the Ram had superior interior ergonomics and control layout and my Ram is older. This new ram is sure to be even better but you won't know until you drive it. I have nothing in particular against the F-150 but I absolutely hate getting in and out of them because of an ergonomics issue. Ride quality and steering was great. In particular the egress was a problem for me when compared to the ram. I've driven some of the new Chevys but I've not been in the newest model. My Ram has lighter steering than the Chevy but still has road feedback. I think it's a good idea to drive everything but don't get caught up too much in the specifications like payload and towing unless these numbers are extremely important to you. My Ram 1500 SLT has the least payload and least towing capability of all the trucks I looked at but it came out on top in almost every other category that was important to me. Also I was able to justify lower resale value because I was so happy with the entire package as a whole. I tend to hang on to vehicles for very long time, so how it works for me is more important than payload, towing and resale value.
      I am currently researching mid-sized pickup trucks because I am looking to step down from a full size truck due to lifestyle change and fuel economy issues. I still want the truck bed but basically it's a family vehicle for me now. Since I don't off road, tow or haul heavy loads, the umm, 'gulp' Honda Ridgeline is a very viable option for me now but I'm waiting to test the new Ford Ranger.

      @@jermainec2462 Breaks down my ass! The day of the unreliable truck is gone. Whether you're a Ford, GM, Ram, Toyota or Nissan guy, you have no solid basis for saying one or the other 'breaks down' so grow up. At one point or another you're liable to see any one of these brands aboard a auto carrier heading back to the dealer or the local garage but there's no junk out on the road anymore. It's all about personal preference and what you can afford to buy or not. I have a 2010 Ram 1500 SLT that's never let me down but I've owned other brand vehicles over the years, I just prefer the Ram when ut came to getting a truck. Ive not regretted that decision since. If you are one of these people that expect to get 200,000 km out of a vehicle without so much as replacing an oxygen sensor or u-joint, you need to move on because you are just not realistic.

      @Bill H nobody needs to recant over resale value because I buy what I want whether there's any value left in it when I'm done with his or not. I get it, Toyota and Honda hold their value but the vast majority of people buying trucks are looking for more than just resale value. I am in the market for a midsize truck and yet I find myself in a struggle between the resale value of a Toyota Tacoma and the fact that is is lacking in so many areas compared to the competition.

    Maybe it's because I'm blind in the left eye, but I can't see $70k worth in that truck, despite etorque, air, or 12" tablet, etc. I guess 100-150% markup is standard to offer discounts throughout/end of the year. • @afh7689
      @afh7689 Před 5 lety

      Like you said, markup is a big factor ($10k-15k vs $3-5k for most non-luxury-brand vehicles). Trucks are also cash cows for automakers: average profit on trucks is about $10k. So together, that's at least $20k of the vehicle cost. Since many trucks are used for business, depreciation/costs can be written off taxes, which I think this encourages some to buy a higher trim level than they really need (less pressure on manufacturers to lower costs) and many probably cheat the IRS by claiming they use the truck for more business use than the truth. But like all new vehicles, there's a lot of technology in these trucks, including some that are specific to trucks (so R&D costs can't be spread among all the manufacturer's models). After factoring out the average profit, markup, and R&D costs, you have a vehicle that's about $45k-$50k. Compare this truck with a $45k SUV/crossover and you'll realize that the amount of tech is similar.

      MGTOWN nope because the fit and finish is nearly as good as a German car. The power train is silky smooth. The ride quality is absolutely incredible. The speakers and sound system is somthing you would never expect in a pickup truck. The amount of features the truck comes with is absolutely astonishing for the price. The sound in the cabin on the highway is next to nothing. The rear leg room is amazing. The seats are incredibly plush and comfortable. You can hate on it all you want but this truck is not the classic Chrysler interior. No hard plastic to be found any place you will touch. and yes the infotainment system is very amusing but assuming that that is the only reason I think this truck is great is wrong.

      @@rydingwithryan493 My douche bag cousin bought one.. The screen freezes, the leather stitching has strands hanging out, some of the trim pieces are not aligned straight, the throttle stuck open and he almost crashed it already.. .. you can put lipstick on a pig all you want, it is still a dodge, unreliable, archaic engine and terrible on gas. JUNK for fan boys

      MGTOWN wow that really sucks. He may have just had a bad one? Hope it gets resolved. A couple people I know have them and don’t have any of those issues and they love em.

      @@jermainec2462 As someone who has had experience with an S-Class and a Ram, and knowing people who also have significant experience with them, I'd match rather a Ram. Even though Rams own reliability history isn't so great, it's probably still going to be more reliable and cheaper to fix. On top of that, the Mercedes S-class has terrible resale value. In 6 or 7 year, the S-class will be a small fraction of its original price. My own Ram, even after 6 years of ownership, is still worth most of what paid for it. Beyond that, the new Ram is just nice. I don't mean nice for a Ram or just nice for trucks, I'm saying it's nice, period. For long trips, I think the Ram is actually more comfortable than an S-class. You really should drive one.

    Never forget it's still a Dodge product. I will continue to buy the BEST selling truck which is hands down the Ford F-150. But hey if quality and resell value is not important to you buy a Dodge product.
