Probably the dumbest ruling I’ve ever seen…. If corey loses the tournament because of a faulty basket, PDGA needs to be held accountable. The player completed the putt. The putt went down into the basket. Did not bounce out.. literally fell through the bottom. That’s like saying, if an entire wire on the basket broke off and the disc fell through a 2 ft gap in the basket, then it’s the players fault. We have got to be better than this. Give him his stroke back.
I liked Ian's comparison to Ball Golf, where the ball just falls through the earth.. 🤣
Like, that just straight up can't happen. I understand if they keep the ruling for this tournament, but it definitely needs to be added to the rulebook ASAP
It should be ruled by the card the disc did indeed come to rest in the basket, the hole was completed, and then it fell through after the hole was completed. Like... would that resolve it?
In any case, moving forward, the prudent thing to do would to literally have the TD ensure each basket has been inspected before the tournament and have someone sign off on it. Other solution is, as they do standardize baskets, is make that gap more significantly smaller than the smallest diameter allowed. Clearly these baskets are just barely smaller than the discs, and in the case of this repaired one, there is one angle where a disc can slip through.
It’s embarrassing. How is the sport supposed to be taken seriously with Mickey Mouse bullshit like this going on? Corey deserves to get that stroke back.
Cory ended up at 3rd place..... by one stroke. :( I say, he tied for 2nd.
FYI, the baskets are not from PDGA. They are the POS baskets that are normally at Milo but with a red band covering. I play milo regularly and they are as shitty as they look.
How does Corey Ellis put not count!! A disc stuck into the side of the cage counts, but this one doesn't?!
Just insane. People are just total out of logic sense these days…
Stop making up excuses for bad putting. If he had put it in the chains there would be no whining. Bad aim = bad result. Rightfully so.
@@SoyAntonioGaming Are you a troll, someone who didn't watch the putt, or genuinely stupid? The putt fell out of the bottom of the basket. Chains literally had nothing to do with that.
@@SoyAntonioGaming a bad putt is a putt that misses. He literally didn't miss.
@@dasbuj it did not come to rest. u cant make up new rules as u go, it was not in
24:16 I have never seen anything as awful as this in this in a disc golf pro event. Even worse than Paul McBeth‘s drop zone ruling from earlier this year. PDGA needs to fix this.
So the integrity of the basket is not a requirement at the professional level? Most peculiar.
Corey's disc falling through is giving me big Disc Golf Valley vibes when the basket physics weren't quite all there yet.
This commentary duo is absolute money. I wish we would hear 'legendary' Central Coast Disc Golf intro and graphics. Love those!
just needs Sexton in the booth
What in the world?? How can Corey Ellis's putt not count?? That's a damaged basket - that is not the player's fault the tour has such crummy baskets.
I've noticed sub par baskets on other broadcasts. Have better ones at my local pitch and putt.
@@Pwrcritter That's because these are just local baskets. There's nothing special about them other than a band cover.
Nooooooo way. Hole 15 Corey Ellis putt. I didn't think that was possible.
Gotta luv Corey's ability to stay calm, and then throw a quality shot after that "bogey"!!!
How can there be an extra stroke for Corey's putt? Extremely embarrassing for this tournament and the PDGA.
Could you imagine if that had been Joel Freemans putt that fell through the basket on 15 haha, Oh the antics! But seriously, huge props to Corey for having such great composure about it and shame on the pdga for not having it count!
Joel is living rent free is y'alls heads. He would be absolutely right to make a fuss about the hole 15 incident, as it's fucking absurd. If it happened to Mcbeth or another top pro I guarantee they would have fought it. Not a dig at Corey, I respect his composure, but a disc falling through a faulty basket is completely unacceptable and any pro would be well within their rights to protest that extra stroke.
@@a-likely-story So you woke up and chose bitching I see. It was a fun post and I even condemned the pdga about it, but other than pointing out the obvious in the situation as Corey did, when someone gives you an answer (in this case the pdga) bitching any further is not going to help it. So go on and cry to choir about what we already know but dont ruin our fun.

This coverage is getting really good. Graphics, disc speed, disc choice, scoreboards, slomos. Keep putting it together dgpt
They've clearly been reading the comments/looking at feedback and taking them seriously. Coverage earlier this year really wasn't that good, but this is now top quality coverage. Love to see it.
I hope by the time I watch the final round the PDGA rectifies the injustice on hole 15.
On hole 15..... The Commentator said that Cory knew it fell out, but that is not true. Cory clearly looked down to pick up his lie before he saw his putter fall out of the basket, and then when approaching the basket, he looked surprised that it wasn't in. I would have been surprised too. Cory should have called a provisional before his drop in putt, but was probably too confused by what happened to question it at the time. The rule states that the disc must come to rest in the chains or the basket tray to be called a made hole. But EVERYONE expects the tray to be designed to have holes too small to allow a disc through. The putt should count. This ruling was wrong!
The comment was: "I think he knew, because he watched it go in", so the commentator wasn't stating it definitively. Corey definitely missed seeing the disc fall out, and the commentator guessed that Corey figured it out on his own that the disc fell through the cage, because he watched it go in, and gravity is a thing, so really there isn't any other possibility.
Cory will have to start putting with a condor
Guess it might need to be an Ultrastar haha, Discraft only for Corey. Bust out the big lid!
Beautiful course. The way y’all shot it too was amazing. Felt like I was in Jurassic Park a few times.
Is love to see tees and pins moved for each round like on the pga. Great coverage thank you
That putt from Corey will probably set in motion the tour coming up with a standardized basket for every event.
Absolutely absurd, DGPT has to say something about this. This is this most unfair thing disc golf has ever witnessed
some awesome putting happening
How did Cory's putt not count on 15? Went in cleanly. Fell through the bottom of the basket. That's clearly a faulty basket.
33:00 that is absolutely ridiculous 510ft 72 mph forehand. All hyzer. I wish I could have seen that in person. Ridiculous.
23:56 Cory Ellis's incredibly controversial mishap. Damn!
Thanks for the video. Great commentary on both MPO and FPO coverage.👍
Through the bottom has always counted to us with any sense of reasoning. Mach I's wore out quick back in the late 80's. Been playing since 1981 and have never had to debate this with anyone I hv ever played with. No brainer! Isn't it?
Wow. If that's not a case for standardized baskets on the pro tour, I don't know what is.

Welp I thought I had seen it all when Hammes hit his own disc from the drop zone at LVC, but no, apparently discs can go through the bottom of the basket 🤷

That spit out is an embarrassment to the tour.
First that you allowed your equipment to be in a state where it was possible. Second that you didn’t make the clear and obvious ruling.

Wow that’s not a great look to not have Corey Ellis putt count.
Yeah, I was looking online about the “holed out” ruling , and found some forums where people have been talking about this being a problem with damaged baskets for 20 years at least.
What hole?

Yea I was also mindblown when they said it wouldn't have counted even if played provisionally.. absolutely braindead stuff to be honest.
I have never seen that. Crazy
3:55 that balance! Did no one else notice that?! Haha
So sorry for Corey
never been more upset about a ruling. if it goes in it goes in...
23:52 EXACTLY!!. Ellis makes putt for par and it just falls through the basket!??
There are so many stupid, antiquated rules in the PDGA. There is more than enough prestige, money and scrutiny in modern high level events to warrant the use of an impartial referee. Blanket rules that don't account for fluke events like this one punish both players and fans alike.
One of the rules that absolutely must go is the two stroke penalty assigned in ANY instance of a misrecorded score, even when the mistake harms the player. The two meter rule is also capricious and pointless. There are many others.
Corey Ellis got absolutely robbed. If there is any justice whatsoever, the official scorecard is adjusted to reflect the actual result of his play.
That trick basket on 15 is a new one.
Are you serious PDGA? That putt doesnt count but one that is wedged from the outside through is fine? You’ve gotta be kidding.
I wonder if Chris Nelson is a local player?

In Golf, you would never have a golf ball fall through the bottom of the cup and not count. Feel bad for Corey with that. I know it’s tough because not every card is on video coverage, where you could prove it happened but…hmmm, tough pill to swallow.
i didn’t know the beaver state fling was at cal lake this year.

24:30 hell nah id throw a tantrum
It would be awesome if you showed two more sets of scores at the end.
Corey Ellis forgot to turn off No-Clip and nearly got DQ'ed for hacking
Yeah, we all felt it for Ellis on 15, but you gotta understand one thing. No rulebook of ANY sport is able to account for all freak things that can happen. That's why the rulebooks get revised. The tournament's job, however, is to apply the rules as written, and so, unfair as it seems, the ruling was the right one. The PDGA needs to revise the rules for this, but these rule changes can never be applied retroactively.
I just gotta say ive been super impressed with Thomas. Not his round, but what a class act.
Is there going to be live coverage today?
Yes
Yes it should be starting right about now.
If it is then where is it? Not seeing it still ...
I don't see a stream for FPO so I would guess not
Boo
That hole 15 basket fall-though should not have cost Cory a stroke. The basket wasn't up to scratch. It went in the tray. That's really bad.
How is it even possible that the disc went through the bottom? Aren't they built to make that impossible? That's so unfair... He shouldn't get a stroke for that at all!!
Hole 15 was unbelievable. That’s the most unprofessional ruling in disc golf.
How can Corey lose a stroke on that?
What’s wrong with people? 🤯🤯🤯
Wow, I can't believe you take a stroke for that. They really need to change that rule right away.
I mean, he made an extra stroke anyway by not calling provisional. So even if the TD would deem the original putt to be good, the tap-in would be an extra stroke.
What is the disc golf definition of "Pin High"?
Hi RJ, it just means you've thrown the exact distance to the pin (basket), but you've missed to the right or left.
So for example, your drive is errant to the left but you don't hit any trees etc and get distance that would have gotten you to the basket, but instead you are 50 feet to the left.
Hope that helps.
thank you
I've "lost" an ace that fell straight through the bottom of a broken basket. Was a blind shot that smashed chains, no one saw it go in but we found the disc underneath leaning against the lock. Close but no cigar. Several other players reported putts dropping out, so before the second round the TD announced that any shots/putts observed falling through would be counted 😫. I've also seen a temp basket collapse during a putt. Disc stayed in the tray so we counted it 🤷
the odga shouldn't be held accountable for that put missing, that is completely the pro tours fault for not checking baskets and using these trashy old ones instead of getting new ones and just tossing discraft stickers on it
Exactly. Its around 2,000 to set up an 18 hole course. With the money made on this tournament, they had more than enough to get new baskets, let alone 1 basket to replace the damaged one. A tree falls on it and they weld it back "together"? In the words of espn, come on man! Lol
That extra stroke for Corey is bull crap. Do better PDGA
Corey shouldn’t have to take a stroke for falling out of a faulty basket, in my opinion every pro tour stop should check every basket before running the event, and if somebody knew about it should have tried to fix it before the tournament. Now I’m going to be paranoid every tournament I play. Lol
Should be a national boycott of the PDGA if they don't reinstate that stroke for Ellis. Supporting the players and the fairness of the game should be priority one! That's about as ridiculous as a pool player making a shot, ball stays in the pocket but then falls through a tear in the leather pocket pouch onto the floor and you tell the player the shot doesn't count. The fact that it even needs to be discussed is mind boggling!!!
They simply can't reinstate the stroke, because he didn't even call provisional. If they decided it was in the first time, he could have gotten the extra stroke for a practice throw anyway, because no provisional was called. He made a lasting extra stroke regardless of how it happened. Also whatever the TD decides will be final. It can't be overruled by anyone afterwards.
But what PDGA can do, is to make a rule about it or at least an official Q&A section about it (they are being used as rule interpretations for unclear example cases), so the ruling wouldn't be unclear next time.
Yeah thats nonsense. He made the putt and the basket is defective. You cant get good at not letting your putt fall through a broken basket so in what universe does that equal a lost stroke
Milo needs to maintain its baskets. That crappy weld job may have cost someone a tournament. This is abhorrent. Whoever maintains the park should be embarrassed and ashamed. Also it's time to update the game again. When disc golf started there weren't any baskets just chains hanging from trees and such. You hit the chains you are done with the hole. Then we added baskets. Now the sport is growing and evolving and we need better baskets and chains all standardized. Some courses have such wonky baskets and are still used in tournaments.
I don't think it's a big enough deal that some unpaid person sitting at home needs to feel embarrassed and ashamed.. I think a meh would suffice.
Hole 15 is a BS call.
Discraft will probably want to look at their baskets when it is one of their own who discovers the design flaw. That was robbery.
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed lol
That's an Innova Discatcher, and it wasn't the result of a design flaw but rather a bent basket that was repaired.
Came here to shame pdga for not giving Corey the putt.
Standardize baskets and check players discs for pdga legality before every pro level event PLEASE. Doesn't take that much from one of the people sitting by the first tee and a standard basket is so obvious

Unbelievable. There absolute needs to be an immediate change for that PDGA 'rule'. How stupid are these people? I am so mad
If a soccer player hits a ball into the net and there's a hole in the net and the ball goes through, is that counted as missing the goal? Literally the same logic as not counting a putt that goes through the cage.
That's not a great example really though. Because in the opposite case, in soccer you can't score through the side netting, while in disc golf your putt counts even if it wedges in through the side of the cage.
@@kekkonenprkl it is a great example because it shows how complicated we've made it for no reason. Side putts shouldn't count but it should still count if it goes through the cage. Keep it simple like soccer
@@Donaldstoner I mean, i know the ruling sucks and it shouldn't be the way it is. But by oversimplifying the rules, this is what we have now.
The rule we had last year was the best one yet. It didn't allow wedged in putts. And it could have been easily modified to include this exact case.
The rule we had prior 2022:
"…it (disc) must enter the target above the top of the tray and below the bottom of the chain support, and come to rest supported by the target."
Which could have had an addition like this:
"A thrown disc that had entered the target correctly, but fell/wedged through the tray, shall be considered to have completed the hole." (Of course written in a more formal format)
But can't add anything like that to the new 2022 rule, because there's no way to tell when the disc has entered the target correctly. The flight doesn't matter anymore, it's only defined by whether the disc is supported by the tray/chains or not.
@@kekkonenprkl I still don't get why the rules had to be changed to include disc wedge into the side cage. Is it just to have near aces like Paul Mcbeth at Emporia count?
@@BathTeth They didn't change the rule to include wedged in putts. That was just a side effect when they oversimplified the rule. Now the definiton of completing a hole is just "Is the disc supported by the tray or the chains? Yes/No."
It’s an illegal basket! Shouldn’t count as a stroke!
I sure hope that stroke doesn’t cost Ellis the tourney or too much cash. Someone needs to grow a brain if he doesn’t get that.
Of you don’t want professional disc golf to be treated as a joke you can not let putts like that be counted as a miss. Such complete BS. PDGA rules are idiotic.
Disc came to rest in the basket. Then fell out. Putt should count. Dumbest ruling of all time.
lol it never came to rest. It should count as it's a faulty basket but it literally just fell through the bottom.
What an absolute embarrassment for the sport that Cory's putt doesn't count there.
Possession is 9/10s of the law. If the basket isn’t holding the disc, must not count….
Absolutely unacceptable, this is a joke
