Man.. I love when a band isn’t just technical wizards and clearly have a feeling for music. People can be fricken guitar/bass/drum scientists and know exactly where every sound lives on their instrument but they may not necessarily possess that “feeling” ya know? Am I making sense to anyone or just myself?
You mean the exact opposite of this, lol? No...not a bit. But I can tell you DESPERATELY want to, so personally, I'm willing to let it go (as long as there are no future nonsensical blurbs....deal)?
Solid, super tight rhythm section! Even thought the meter is moving a little they are moving TOGETHER! It gives it so much more feel than using a click and being in "perfect time". Even though I can play precise with a click I rather just lock in with great musicians and have that "human feel".
I'm primarily a deathmetal/blackmetal drummer (29 years on the drums, but 32 on guitar playing neo-classical), but I LOVE gospel music!! The musicians are so fucking TIGHT!! They play with so much energy and passion. They're extremely talented and exhibit technical proficiency. The reason I love deathmetal so much is because of the energy and technicality and this, in my eyes is cut from the same cloth. Awesome, just flat out badass!!!
@@themusiclaboratory - I believe it, like I said, "cut from the same cloth". Both are high energy technical styles. If a gospel group hit me up to join I'd accept in a second. It would be so much fun, plus playing with bassists like that guy is second to none. I played with a bassist from 97' to 01' that played a six string slap with three finger 16th notes, (oddly enough in a deathmetal band... we were really weird though and would have fusion jazz and prog sections) and he is still my favorite bassist I've ever played with. His style reminds of the guy in the clip. He was heavily influenced by Victor Wooten and Jaco Pastorious.
yep, gospel, metal, soul and rnb, hip hop, hard rock, punk- all these genres have power and feeling. The only genre I don’t really enjoy at all is indie/alt rock
I don't know as race has much to do with it so much as it definitely takes a certain type of person to really master the bass. I mean, they're a bit big, awkward, and unwieldy as is, so I feel like you really have to have a real love for the instrument and passion for making it sing or you wouldn't really choose the bass over say, regular 6 string, or even drums for that matter. Drums will take it right out of you too, don't get me wrong, but hefting that big ol bass around and it takes some good dexterity and hand strength to not only fret, but to pluck strings as well. Idk, I play guitar and I just absolutely couldn't picture myself playing bass just based on my small 5'6" 130lb size , and I was also cursed with short fingers that make even regular guitar necks a challenge sometimes. Yeah, I'd say most of the good bass players are extraordinarily good because of the commitment and love of that instrument that got them into it to begin with.
Some of the best bands I've ever seen were in church. If you haven't been, you need to go check it out sometime. The music is absolutely insane from these guys because they are only doing it to have a good time. Every week they're playing and all week when they're not practicing they're looking forward to Sunday Funday when they can let loose and just enjoy themselves with no obligations or worries about anything really. They know they'll be playing for a full house most likely, and that everyone will be feeling it. I filled in for a friend of mine at his church when they needed a guitarist for a few weeks a while back, and let me tell you, I haven't had that much fun since. I play metal, like slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, etc. I thought keeping up with that church band was going to be a breeze, and it was not... 😂 It was some crazy next level and I couldn't hide my shortcomings under heavy distortion and insanely fast double picking, so I learned a lot from the experience as well. I'd like to think it relaxed me in some ways, but tightened me up in areas where I was sloppy. They were there for fun, but took it very seriously too. Great music all around. I live next door to a church now and hear them on Wednesday nights and every Sunday blowing the roof off the place practically. They don't hold back either...gotta love it.
Dang, y’all’s churches get music like this??? My church band plays such boring songs and i don’t know if they even have a bass player tbh 😂 at high school events they’re trying to get us to get hype but the songs are just so boring, they’re practically indistinguishable except for the lyrics!
