To The Manor Born has a little bit of help to get it a big fan base. The series launched on BBC1 in September 1979 right in the middle of a strike at ITV, where apart from the Channel Islands, all of the other ITV regions were off the air. This left only BBC1 and BBC2 so To The Manor Born had a captive audience. ITV did return on 24th October 1979, however those three weeks gave this wonderful sitcom a chance to build a fan base, who stayed with the show over three series.
