My parents owned a stand there..F6.. for 19 years.. I stood on a milk crate with a white apron on me.. greeting the customers at 5 years old😊.. really miss the place..
Man... memories for my family...we would go there every Saturday...I grew up on the westside...my favorite were the beef sticks .. OMG they were soooo good....thanks for the video
@@dioniciasuarezmoreno8402 : I don't know where Jack Smith went in Cleveland, but I live on the West side, and that is just NOT true. You do not need a fricking gun to walk to the corner deli. That is so far from Cleveland today.
I took a vacation to Cleveland with my sheltie back in 2008. People asked me, why Cleveland? Why not Florida, etc. I just said that I was never there before. I happened upon the market while I was just driving around sightseeing. Awesome place.
Thanks for uploading Tom! Last time I was at the market was in the late 1970's. I had a friend who's family worked there for three generations, Ah the food!!! BTW I grew up in Walton Hills in the 50's and 60's - a great life for a little Guy!
You did a great job covering the West Side Market. I am going tomorrow for my first visit, and your video and commentary gave we’re spot on. Thank you.
I remember so true so much to do and lot of history and culture I was born there I live in CT I will get back for a while I miss it was once the sixth city still a big city so much history
Thank you for this video and for visiting our city!! I also recently thought to feature the Market on my channel. I will very soon while it's still nice out. Be blessed!!!
Hi Tom, Wow! Thanks for the awesome market tour. We have a market here, but not as large as that one. Incidentally, you are completely correct about 1420 WHK. They kept that frequency and call sign until 2001, according to the Internet. Cleveland looks like an interesting place.
Grew up in Lakewood Oh. Wish we would have shopped at the Westside market instead of Fishers or Krogers. I never got to the Westside Market until I visited in 2014 brought By my dear friend Carmie whose family owned Rego’s Super Market. I loved it. Bought things that are mot available in Charlotte NC. There are no markets to compare here.
Eighty years old now.. Really miss being able to buy“Kuchens” and other German coffee cakes, as well as Polish, Hungarian, and Jewish baked goods. The South, NC. , does not have aa history of baking. They do make things like baking powder biscuits but things that used yeast not so much. Even now they will make danish using sourdough starters, which I must say are good but not as good as the Jewish ones At Hough’s. Guess I’d have to go to Europe to have any as good as those in Cleveland.
Tom, great trip down my own memory lane as I have hours perusing the aisles of the market. Outside where the best and freshest produce in the world is on sale within hours of being harvested, but my favorite place is inside wandering the butchers and bakers. Again, you can't buy fresher meat, poultry, and seafood. And who doesn't love the smell of fresh baked goods. Umm. One of the few things I've missed since moving to NC 18 yrs. ago. Thanks
The smells of all the meat , both their at at Red Star meat shop , on the lower west side west 5th street , oh the wonder that went through my mind . But my family was poor so we really only went to both places just too smell suppers that could have been . Life was rough on the lower west side treemont
Update I was born in Cleveland Ohio ! Lived at 7908 Dearborn Ave I am Rose Hall was my madian name blessings prayers 🙏 about your Dad my uncle's name was Joe Hall only had one daughter Sherrie Hall
West side market, on crowded days, pick-pockets are there so keep a close watch on your purse. Do NOT let the fruit and veggie people fill your bag from behind their counter. I bought 4 pints of strawberries and when i got home found 4 pints of fuzzy, moldy strawberries. So pick your fruit and veggies from what is on display, not what they fill your bag with from behind their counter. Be aware, there are no "sell by" dates on meats and stuff, so make sure what you pick out is what they wrap up for you. COUNT YOUR CHANGE!!!
OMG, your video is perfect for me! I'm writing a story, and this is an early location. It's awesome getting a tour of it! The main location for my story is Abbey Avenue. I placed an apartment building across the street from the Gateway Animal Clinic lol. I've never been to Cleveland, Ohio before, so I've been doing a ton of research. Are you from Pittsburgh? The way you speak sounds a lot like Pittsburghese, as my granddad calls it.
Hi Tom , I'm confused.. Is this a current video ? as you were standing outside the small tree's were almost gone of leaves and it looks like Mid October ! I live in Southern Michigan south of lansing and our tree's are ALL green Yet with maybe just a few sugar maples with a hint of turning
Referring to his mother---"with the resources that she had..." For a family of 10 children, I would think you would need enormous resources. A lot of mouths to feed!
Wow my family used to visit that market til like 1992. The area began to get too bad. I think they are closed now. Been livin in Chicago now for over 25 yrs
Tom Hall it really does sound like you are making this stuff up . You say' if I'm not mistaken' and' I think' after every other sentence like your making these memories up. Go back and watch this video again.

Awww that’s sad that you had to go for your father’s funeral. I noticed you were very reminiscent about your mother and father...😢

It'll make a great Mall food court when the consultants are done. Then when that is out of vogue, it'll be a sweet Walgreens
Thank you.

From the wise man : what ever happen to the east side market ??!
Referring to his mother---"with the resources that she had..." For a family of 10 children, I would think you would need enormous resources. A lot of mouths to feed!
Your from Cleveland and you don’t love stuffed peppers . Are you sure your from Cleveland ? Ohio ?
Surely isn’t like this anymore
I was wondering that myself. I love markets like this.
