I love Cleveland. I was born there and only left because of my hubby's job in the late 1960's. I remember the slogan " The Best Location In The Nation ". That was Cleveland. I come back for a visit as often as I can. My favorite place is the old Cleveland Trust Bank now Heinen's on the 9.
I will be there next week, shopping and seeing all the sights. Cleveland is so awesome but some people are just critical about it. Excellent video, my friend. Cleveland rocks!
Some corrections - the 925 / Centennial building is not on public square, but is down the street at 9th and Euclid Ave. What you were looking at is the current Huntington Building or 200 Public Square. Tower City also is swapping out much of its office space for residential units as well. Also city pop. Isn’t 2.8 million- that’s a little misleading. Inner city Cleveland is about 400,000 while the CLE metro is somewhere between 2-3 million.
Very nice walking vid of downtown Cleveland. Sure has changes since I've been there! Looks like the sculpture in the middle of public square is long gone. What a shame. Cleveland city planners.....
I was born in Cleveland. Most of my family lives in the West Side suburbs. I've never even been on the East side once on my entire life. I heard I have an aunt who married rich and now lives in ...where else but Shaker Heights. Sister lives in Parma. I remember all the jokes about Parma and white socks. Big John and Little Chuck used to shred Parma. I've always been fascinated with the history of Cleveland. Great video. You know your stuff. That's good to see from a young man of this generation. I had lost hope for your kind but if there are more like you around then our future looks a brighter.
just parked my money in real estate in this city about a year ago, heard that it's peaceful and nice out here, won't regret much, thanks for the nice vid.
Looks like the date showing was during the "lockdown" . On a normal day there is twice as much traffic . Key Bank building...60% vacant , Tower City...75% vacant . Most smaller buildings ..50% vacant
I enjoyed this. My people settled in Cleveland in 1913 & 24. I was almost born there. "We" left in 61. What's with all the little scooters ? A few extra caption descriptions would have been nice, but nice video. I see Cleveland likes tacky "art" just like Houston, Dallas, New Orleans. (Not the Fire Dept Art by the stadium. That was cool). I've been twice in 85 and 88 but didn't have time to sight see. The downtown/business district looks quiet and safe enough, at least during the day. What day & time was this ?? The Rock & Roll place looks like the "pyramid" in Paris in the "DaVinci Code" movie. Hey, perhaps you can take us on a "tour" of Cleveland's Kingsbury Run - stomping grounds of the Mad Butcher of Cleveland who was active from 1934-38 (possibly earlier).
The scooters are popular now in most big cities. You swipe your card, and you can navigate the city faster I guess. Pick them up and drop them off wherever. I think the time of day was early afternoon on a Saturday. It was last year so people were still more weary of going out , so probably why it looks empty. Thanks for watching and thanks for the suggestion on Kingsbury Run. I’ll let you know if I get around to checking that area out.
@@StrollCam Thanks for the reply. Cleveland is unique to say the least. I also watched your walk thru of a Cleveland mall in the morning before it opened. The architecture reminded me of The Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge & Houston Galleria. Same stores too LoL. Don't come down to Louisiana....Covid is back.
Usually with my right hand, to the side, and slightly in front. Also gotta be mindful of the small microphones on it so I don't create so much muffling sounds. Buy a "Gimble" and it takes very little effort.
Cleveland's a great city - about 20,000 live downtown & during Covid, the city was empty. I've seen it many times during summer when it's very crowded (ball games, festivals, Flats). Also, some comments here are a little off about the population - you were stating a metro figure of 2.8 mil (msa) - the city has about 390K, but the csa or cmsa is much higher at around 3.6 mil - the region has the most population in the state - then comes Cinci/Dayton (about 3.3 mil - adding Dayton's 1 mil), then Columbus (about 2.5 mil). Geographers/census have various ways of counting - some don't make a lot of sense. A way to understand csa/csma is to look at a satellite image of Ohio at night - the continuous regions of light are csa/csma - for Cle (Cle/Akron/Canton), it's Vermillion over to Madison and south to Canton - basically one economic region of approx. 3.6 million.

Amazing how few people you see in the downtown of a major US city.
I think more people can be seen, since this video was taken 8 months ago.
Unless there is some major event going on, like a festival or sporting event, downtown Cleveland always has a desolate feel to it.
