      Cowboy4737. Hows it going! First thing first just like a boat its rare to get your money out of it. There are motor mount shims under the engine mount. Each corner to each mount has a different amount of shims. Dont! Loose or mismatch the shims or else your life is over. When you finally rebuild your motor replace the crank shafts seals. More than worth it. Hope you enjoy!

    Hey Brad I just found your videos on Jet Skis and love 'em! I know it's been years since you've posted Jet Ski videos and hpefully you still monitor your youtube channel. We (my family) have 5 Jet Skis; 2 of which are similar to yours. A 1990 550SX and a 1991 650SX. My questions for you is are simple ones. Which of the 2 ski's is faster? ... and if it's the 550 is it because of more mods? and Which is the most fun to ride? .... and why? Thanks man!

    • @brads3111
      @brads3111  Před 4 lety

      Thats a tough one. I have a 1986 550 not the 550sx. The 550sx actually has a reed motor " more power.
      Out of the hole the 550sx is faster. In the early days they preferred the 550sx over the 650sx for racing. Top speed the 650sx is faster i believe. But only by 2 mph or something small. The 550sx is less stable and l lighter which is more fun for tricks. The 650sx is just better all day on the lake for stability for high speed.
      If you watch Craigslist and ebay closely you can find aftermarket parts kind of cheap. The best thing for power is always a rebuilt engine if its time. Go have fun.

    Hey brad i just installed a coffmans aftermarket exhaust pipe on my 650 and i’m not getting any water from the outboard pisser when i’m riding. I get water flow when i flush the system manually when the garden hose water has direct flow into the head, and i also get water flow out the pisser when the garden hose is put in to the rear line out the back of the ski from the pump. But I get no water when i’m riding and the pump itself is submerged in water. is there any way i can send you a few pictures of my setup and you could tell me if i have it ran correctly? Thanks

    • @brads3111
      @brads3111  Před 4 lety

      There should only be a single cooling line from the pump if there's a secound line running from the pump and through the ski hull than that ski was modified. Very interesting.
      If you can plug both lines into the exhaust that would be great. But you also in uncharted territory. You might even half to Y those lines together prior to the exhaust if theres only one water inlet.. Just a thought.

      @brads3111  Před 6 lety

      Donald Reisert hey don, as long as water is coming out of the pisser then yo u know the cooling js correct. If its bogging down amd still runs your looking at a air to fuel ratio issue. Fresh gas? Did you replace the crank seals with a true rebuild, that is very important. True rebuild is piston and rings replacement. Do you still have good compression?

      You will need to start diagnosing starting from the jet pump. The jet pump supplies the water pressure. Some time the line from the jet pump becomes clogged. I would start there. Something is clogged somewhere.

      Tuning is super simple. Higher rpms you just turn the high jet needle until it stops bogging down. It's that simple. Also sometimes you need to check the rear main sill. That could have air coming in and making the rear cylinder run lean.

Currently there is no water coming out of the pisser hole on the left, this is neither in the water or hooked up to a hose. I called two mechanics and they said to take the head off and clean the water jackets underneath the head. Any ideas of what else it could be. Donald Reisert. Also i forgot to mention that if its reving up like it has power but not going. It coupd be cavitation. Theres a air leak around the pump where the pump/propeller has so much power its pulling air feom the engine bay and mixing with the water.. you will have to re silicone the pump housing and all.
