I bought this book after I watched the video because I love the concept and need more detail. I spent 2 days reading a half of it. The book was good but it was too long. Then I found that this video, 7.32 minutes, covers 70% of the book. Great job Man! Now I subscribed to your premium summaries. Cheer!

    N-ame it.

    S-tep out of it.
    A-ct accordingly to your values.
This is an amazing technique. Thanks for sharing man.

Emotion = Energy in motion. There is no such thing as a negative emotion, only emotions we negate (ignore, repress, label as good/bad). At the stage of observing an emotional reaction, you can release it fully by feeling compassion for this (suffering) part of yourself. Breathing slowly and deeply in the abdomen, helps move and release the energy. It's a very powerful healing process. Feeling kindness infused with love from your heart, like a kind parent to a child, releases the energy.
If you do this you'll notice you no longer react with this particular emotion that you have processed. If you release irritation for example, all the situations that previously caused you irritation, no longer will.
If you practice this every time you name* an emotion, you will over time, find far more peace and joy in your life.
*You don't have to name the emotion if you struggle to identify it. The process works exactly the same without identifying exactly the emotion.

No matter what you do ... EMOTION reappears, so accepting its presence , identifying its root cause and deal with it by stepping out of it is the only way for most ... Very well understood by the author and explained by you 🙏

I realized i was both a brooder and a bottler - and recently at the receiving end of an unfair work situation. It distracted me for almost a week from my work, stopped doing things I enjoyed at home. It took me some time to clarify the feeling I felt. I narrowed it down to being disrespected and insecurity about how it could affect my career.. I told the person after 3 days of processing that and he apologized. it brought some closure and for the insecurity, I'm trying to address with some clear plans around alternative roles but I still beat myself up for being so vulnerable and get carried away and have been looking for ways to see how not to let events like these bother me too much and distract me. This was timely. Inadvertently I was following these 4 steps, so good to see it in more concrete steps.

  • @adriman2

I can’t help to relate the mentioned NASA technique to a technique in meditation called “Noting”.
In my experience meditation is the best way to improve your emotional intelligence.
It improves your ability to stay aware of your thoughts and feelings in each moment, then it becomes naturally easier to notice your emotions and separate them from thoughts.
After this you can deal with them in a thoughtful manner.
If you’re curious about it there’s tons of material on the internet to learn Noting and to meditate.
    Cheers everyone

And meditation benefits me as if I had been doing neurofeedback therapy for brainwave balancing & static reduction between hemispheres, thus I'm better equipped physiologically to function. imho. One side is quiet while the other side (brain hemisphere) is conducting business. Left & right brain hemispheres are sync'd, in tune. Check out Bessel van der Kolk's (MD) book, "The Body Keeps the Score". His focus is trauma recovery. EMDR (Francine Shapiro, PhD) & particular specific neurofeedback approaches, I'm not sure of which ones he has researched. I read yesterday about his grant from the Eppley Foundation for Research to help children recover from chronic trauma in this PDF www.pesi.com/confirm/eventdocs/C2935592.PDF/54528.

I'm a Bottler and Brooder...yeah I'm a mess, but I already spend a great deal of time "naming" my emotions, not judging them is very hard for me, because I like my emotions and I feel like it makes me who I am.

Act according to your values. (If you do react to an emotion, think values, is my rxn I'm feeling like giving into according to my values, will my rxn represent who I am, is my action saying who I am as I know me to be?)

I'd say a proper balance which slightly tilted towards IQ. Or let's put it this way "Power to actually control your mind in whatever way you want" just like Mjolnir concentrated and fix Thor's power in one direction the same way your mind should behave because YOU are the one controlling it not vice versa.
