DiRT Rally 2.0 Controller Settings Guide
VloĆŸit

- Here's a guide to help you get the best controller settings in DiRT Rally 2.0.
It is possible to be quick in DiRT Rally 2.0 on a pad as well as a wheel, and while the default settings are excellent you may need to make a few tweaks to get it dialled in for your driving style.
Footage recorded on Xbox One X however these tips will work for PlayStation 4 and Steam players too. The buttons may be different but the settings are the same. If you're playing on PC I recommend an Xbox One controller due to the better-shaped triggers.

ââ How to be FAST: czcams.com/video/2nYpugwNWNs/video.html ââ
my name is pj:)
Holy shit, I had my steering sensitivity set to 50 as default, I've played this way for months! Upped it to 100 and I'm taking corners so tightly I almost touch my front wheel to my rear! Thank you so much for this guide!
Thank you for the tutorial and breakdown. I completely misunderstood what steering linearity was supposed to do, set it to maximum, and then wondered if all rally cars are supposed to be this twitchy. Finally went through Sweden without hitting the dreaded snow bank!
Yay!
Here's some Time Trial footage, showing how I do with these controller settings: czcams.com/video/ufHoGcXZvU8/video.html
Thanks for the settings guide PJ this has helped me get much quicker and I am now able to push the cars to their limits a lot more.
Nice one!
I might revisit this guide if I come up with better settings.
I went from finishing last to consistently finishing in the top three with these tips! THANK YOU!!!
Wow, thank you very much! I continuously achieved +20th places in pro league and the first single stages after setting up my controller went 15th -> 7th -> 4th -> 2nd.
You saved me from getting frustrated hitting a brick wall!
Helped alot, always make it your own people
Controller comming tomorrow so will def use your setup suggestions. Better than trial and error. Onyah mate!
So wish I'd found these settings a few weeks back. Just put them in for my DS4 (Yes, a DS4, I'm a PS diehard you see.) and completely smashed my time trial PB's. Well done!!
Glad they helped đ
What's your steering settings for the DS4?
@@mohammedsalimahmed5230 Same as in this video.
@@mohammedsalimahmed5230 I'd recommend the same. Only thing to note is that the triggers aren't as nice to handle as those on Xbox, but otherwise everything's fine.
The game should have a tutorial section with lessons/guides seriously. It was very fun in H1 and coudln't figure out what's going on in H2 with a RWD.
Thereâs a surprising lack of tutorials in a game thatâs inherently difficult. DiRT Rally added its tutorials a few months after PC launch so maybe weâll see them here too.
Thanks PJ your settings have helped me with my PS4 Pro controller gameplay now I can finally drive in DiRT Rally 2.0 with confidence.
Nice, glad it helped đ
I improved a lot thank you!!!!! I enjoy this game even more now
Glad I could help đđ»
PJ this is perfect!
Thanks a lot for the vid
Happy to help đ
Thanks! Just got Dirt 2.0 off steam at 70% discount. I've been driving WRC7 for a while, which I love! But this, .. i'm loving this too. Too bad there's not alot of rally, and not too many Rallycross events. But then I saw it. DLC addons for cars and tracks .. hehehe. I''m glad I got it on discount. Project Cars 2 is next on my list.
Thanks for the video ..
Thanks for the comment, it's certainly a fun game to play đ
A bit confusing but I'll give it a try..many thanks for the tactics
Think Iâm gonna play some Dirt rally 2.0 later PJ đđ
Your controller settings tutorial for F1 2021 have def help me thank you so much â€ïž
Nice one. Rally is way harder but a lot of fun too.
@@PJTierney đđ
Will codemasters ever make a new rally Game pj ?
It was reported in the past that the rally team is busy đ
Very good,thank you very much.
Thanks for the descriptions for the settings. Not sure why the game doesnât tell you that info.
DiRT Rally had tooltips in its settings menu; I ended up using those as reference when making this video.
Right! Like they couldn't take 5mins to add any descriptions...The tune vehicle menus are pretty good why cm didn't do that is strange.
Your videos are amazing pj
Greetings from Ireland đźđȘđ
Thank you đ
Always nice to see a fellow Irish online â
Great video, thank you!
Glad I could help đ
Thanks for this
Thank you, just got the goty edition on PS5.
Thanks for that!
I'll give it a try!
Hope it's handy đđ»
The good news is that DiRT Rally 2.0's default configuration feels strong already, you don't have to do much to get it feeling the way you want it to.
@@PJTierney
Do you have a Controller Setup for Dirt Rally too?
My setup's almost identical, but here's a clip I recorded for reference when making the DiRT Rally 2.0 video.

I played now Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2.0 with your controller settings. For me Dirt Rally 2.0 is more comfortable to handle.
What's your experience?
Thank you so much
Happy to help đđ»
Amaaazing Dude!!
Thank you đđ»
Been playing for 6 months and consistently 20 secs behind leaders on short stages, 40 on long, with clean runs & copied-from-pro car setups. Never even looked at these settings so thank you. Hope this improves my game. #saintsteve72 #xboxone
Best of luck đđ»
Also, we just put out official tutorials on the DiRT channel so take a look đ
Followed your advice and was 30 seconds faster on my favourite stage in my favourite car - (including a roll and fence hit) WOW. Thanks !!!
Good stuff đđ»
Iâve got my PS4 controller bindings set up according to left / right on the controller as it would be in a car, thatâs how it makes sense in my brain.đ
L1 clutch, L2 brake, (meaning left âfootâ), R1 handbrake, R2 accelerator (meaning right âarm and legâ). Gear up is đŒ and gear down is â (for straight up to gear up, and straight down to gear down, with my right âarmâ). Steering is of course the left stick, (my left âarmâ). I use a Vortex Kontrol Freek on the left stick for a little extra precision in steering.
I play with all 6 fingers at once.
I'm also a Kontrol Freek user, they're good stuff đ
After I tried the controller settings I became an instant unit
Been using your controller setting for the past few years in Dirt 2.0 and just switch to a G920 wheel, do you have any settings recommendations for the G920?
Thank you your settings really worked I'm on PS4 in the settings work perfectđ
I figured more PS4 people would be coming in, glad it helped đđ»
@@PJTierney Yeah now that dirt rally 2.0 is free on PS Plusthere's going to be a lot more players coming to watch this video especially if they're on controllerđ
Thnx u too
Hi pj
How are you ? Would the Mitsubishi lancer car in dirt rally 2.0 be too powerful for someone learning the game ? I had a trial run last night in Germany wow itâs so powerful and fast what a beast đ
Please let me know
Damien
Do you have a video on wheel and ffb settings?
Not for DiRT Rally 2.0, no.
I recently started using the WRC wheel so if I come up with anything good I could make a video.
I dont get how the clutch works in Dirt Rally 2.0. I have a controller set to Manuel/sequen I upshift with X and downshift with A. Do i even need to have clutch keyed to my controller? If i can shift up and down without a clutch key, then what do i need it for?
Do you mess with any of the assists options like traction control etc or leave at default
I have everything off đ
@@PJTierney oh nice đđŒ, Iâll turn everything off also, I notice as default the brake control is at 5
Nvm got it, everything off more realism and feel! Thanks
My throttle saturation is at 100 but even I'm in game even pressing the peddle even a little bit gives me full revs .... any fix? I'm using the Logitech g923
I have the Backbutton attachment for the PS4 controller so I'm gonna use those buttons for gear shifting.
Good call.
I've heard that turning on vibration/rumble/dualshock improves your ability to read the road and react to it. Do you think this is true? I've been considering upgrading from my logitech to an Xbox one controller, but they are expensive.
Good rumble is the main reason racing games feel better on Xbox than PlayStation. Iâd absolutely recommend it.
I keep the vibration off cause it wears out batteries much faster whether itâs rechargeable packs or AAâs, but I kind of want to see what itâs like. Iâve put so many hours into DR2.0 and have some real solid top 75 or even top 50 times out of like 3000+ ppl on the leaderboards. This months monthly challenge for class A cars Iâm currently at 11th on the Xbox leaderboards
Using dualshock ps4 controller, when I first started, I was able to use the triggers to adjust throttle and braking. But ever since I went into the button layout, im now stuck getting either 100% or off. Same thing with braking, its either totally off or 100%. Adjusting deadzones and saturation has zero effect.
im having the same problem with using my foot pedals
@@Joel_Maxwell SO I found out that if you dont create a profile for the button layout, it stays as the default. if you just click on the pre-loaded default button layout, it goes back to normal and gives your throttle control and brake control. when you go to adjust all of your buttons again, do not touch the throttle and brake controls at all.
I still struggle. I feel the like surface degradation feature they added in this game doesnât translate well when using a controller. The amount of steering input I used to get the car straight twenty second ago wonât be consistent on the next straight because the tire(s) will essentially be stuck in a groove in the dirt, making muscle memory impossible as the steering input required to get the car straight varies wildly depending on how degraded the surface is.
With a wheel I bet itâs great because you can quickly make those micro adjustments and possibly feel with the force feedback when the surface is fighting your steering inputs but, using a controller, I feel itâs just too cumbersome.
Iâll be gradually moving the left stick to steer the car away from the embankment my car is gradually moving towards on a straight away but it feels like one of the front tires is sticking, like theyâre stuck in a groove - but then it comes out of the groove without warning when Iâm still pushing the stick 30% or so - making the car turn rapidly in the direction Iâm pushing the stick, sending me right into the embankment I was trying to avoid. I just feel like Iâm fighting the controls in this game more than Iâm actually playing.
Granted, Iâm driving the RWD vehicles on dry dirt in Australia where these effects are most acute. But itâs still frustrating because Itâs not like you can visually see where the surface is most degraded; maybe then I could prepare for it. Iâve just never had this much of an issue in any racing game using a controller and I used to do just fine in the first Dirt Rally, even achieving a couple top fifty Global times. So I donât understand it.
Hmm. Itâs a tough thing to fully sort out, as the level of feedback you get from the controller isnât the same you get from a wheel. Iâve played on pad a ton and one thing that helped me out was setting the vibration settings all the way to maximum.
Fortunately on Xbox One you get a lot of haptic-like feedback from the triggers, but thatâs exclusive to that platform. One thing that may help on other platforms however is actually *decreasing* vibration settings for some of the sliders and keeping only one of them on maximum. That way you can fine tune which sensation is more important to you and get the feedback you need.
I am really tired of this.......... I want to learn about setup rally car, not to setup gamepad.......... anyway my conclusion after many testing is, that for every car (group, surface) I need other settings.......there are no universal ones
Do you use the stock tuning setups?
Mostly, yes. If Iâm feeling super competitive I may change a few things or find a setup online, but for everyday driving, stock is good enough for me.
Is it possible to change difficulty settings of cpu drivers?
Custom, Historic, FIA World Rallycross Championship and Colin McRae: Yes
My Team: No. It gets harder after you finish top 3 in a Championship, and easier if you finish bottom 3. It starts easy.
my crontroller donst conect with dirt rally
i cant use it
my clutch doesn't work for some reason.
What's your transmission do I can use clutch H pattern doesn't let me use clutch and sequential doesn't need a clutch
I use Manual Sequential, and have Clutch Override enabled. I don't need to press the clutch but if I do I can up the revs a bit which is handy out of slow corners.
@@PJTierney what does it do?
@@lazymirates The override basically means you can press the clutch whenever you want, but you don't need it when shifting.
Look up clutch kicking, it's a real-world technique.
I can't bind them
You got linearity all wrong, it's completely other way around, at 10 there's less input in the middle than on the outside while at 0 it's directly proportional to wheel position, which is less than ideal with such a small stick. I actually use 10, since it increases precision and allows for smaller corrections.
Thanks for that. This video was made over a year ago but if I make future guides like this I'll keep that in mind.
No itâs not, youâre talking about Deadzone. Linearity makes the wheels reach that input slower at 10 or instantly at 0 (well not instantly but faster).
@@LJT9393 This is true, 0 is much easier to take corners with since you turn at the exact rate as how you move the stick
@@viclaszlo so linearity set to 0 is better?
not every hero wears a cape
...but some wear hoodies đ
How can you change from mph to kmh?
Have a look through the options menus, which can be done from the pause menu.
There is an option that displays âImperialâ. Change that to âMetricâ.
@@PJTierney yes I found it thank you so much
What about DiRT Rally 1?
Should be mostly similar.
I find myself always spin out in Germany stage most of the time in 1st game , but no problem in 2.0 , with same controller and using the 2.0 default setting in the 1st game
I play Both 1 and 2.0 on Pc (sometimes ) with latest Xbox core Controller and play on PS5 via BC
Would these settings be good on Dirt Rally 4.0
4.0? đ€
They'll work for 2.0, and probably for DiRT 4 and the original DiRT Rally too.
lmaoo I mean't Dirt 4 that was my fault, but thanks for letting me know that these settings will work good on dirt 4
Not all of these settings transfer to a wheel. Will be interesting to see how they work.
do it for ps4 to, plss
It's the same but swap the buttons for PS4 buttons in the same place đđ»
@@PJTierney oh, ok, thanks
I'm so much quicker with controller. I bought a wheel (G920) and can hardly control the car. I beat Newhouse Bridge with the Subaru in 6:54 (for an achievement). With a wheel my controllers ghost is down the road after the first right hander! Wheels are overrated. Its nothing like driving a real car. FFB is there but its a weird sensation. I feel the car is snaking and you obviously are not turning your body as you would in a car. They're just another fancy peripheral. đ I will sill practice and do love the wheel for immersion though
Wheel is fun but hard, as you do need a lot of tinkering to get it right.
Tip: I use 450 degrees of rotation in every car, feels just right.
@@PJTierney I'm thinking of sending the G920 back and replacing it with a Thrustmaster. However the one I want isn't released until March 2022 for Xbox. I can't imagine how good a direct drive feels though.
@@oxygengraphafonadelaverberator Lots of the game's best players use a G920.
Why didn't you talk. I don't want to try n read all that
Ik what the game is, that's why I'm here, just get to the point.
Thanks for the feedback.
Hopefully my more recent videos have a more direct presentation style, this one's a year old đ
