      😂 Yes I heard that and its actually true 😂 ..... Only reason the standard is so high now is because theres so many more players compared to the 1970s & 1980s. Plus the cloths they use now mean you don't have to hit the ball as hard, making the game slightly easier compared to the
      1970s/80s.... But still, Ronnie remains the GOAT 😂😂😂

      Is he the GOAT though? He had to play more tournamets to beat Hendry's win record and he had to play in more frames to beat Hendry's century record. Hendry has a much higher tournament-to-win ratio, and a much higher frame to century ratio.

      @24magiccarrot nearly every snooker professional says he is which means more than us fans ( which Hendry's fans will always have him as the best ) and Hendry dominated mainly because he didn't have much competition, once player's like Ronnie O'sullivan, John Higgins and Mark Williams came he couldn't compete whereas Ronnie has been able to be at the top of the game far longer against top class players.

    • @24magiccarrot
      @24magiccarrot Před 17 dny +1

      @@waynelowe3329 Prior to his cue getting lost Hendry was still the number one player and won the most events when Ronnie, Higgins and Williams were all competing at their best., Hendry just never recovered from losing his cue.
      Snooker professionals might mean more than fans opinion, but statistics outweigh both. Statistically Hendry was much more successful, and he wasn't exactly competing against scubs - Jimmy White, Steve Davis, Ken Docherty, John Higgins, Mark Williams, Ronnie O'sullivan you name it prior to his cue being lost he had winning records against everybody including Ronnie.
      And I disagree that Ronnie is playing against tougher opponents, Hendry was playing against Higgins and Williams when they were at the top of their game, Ronnie now is playing against Higgins and Williams well past their best and who's current number 1? Mark Allen?? He couldn't lace the boots of any of the class of '92 in their prime but Hendry not only competed but more often than not came out on top.

      @@24magiccarrot I've been watching snooker since 1981. From the time I've been watching snooker, I would rank the players in the following order:
      1. Ronnie
      2. Hendry
      3. S. Davis
      4. J. Higgins
      5. M. Selby
      Yes, it took Ronnie longer to beat Stephen's records but several things are at play here. Firstly snooker went into the doldrums. It was horribly mismanaged and as a result for several years you only had 4 professional tournaments a year. That is just disgraceful. As a result it will have taken Ronnie longer to beat some of Hendry's records. The players and managers were reluctant for Barry Hearn to take over the sport but thank God he did.
      Next, Ronnie had both his parents jailed. His father jailed for murder and his mother for tax evasion. Ronnie ended up with the wrong crowd and taking drugs. Thank God he cleaned himself up. But the damage was done in the sense that he probably lost his best years. Even after that, for him to defy the odds and still be at the top after all those years is amazing. When he's in full flow he is pretty much untouchable. Do you recall how easily he beat Hendry 17-4 at the world championships? I believe those years are behind him now but his game is so good that he can still beat most players using his c game. I did watch him at his full flow as I did watch Hendry and Davis, and I would put Ronnie at his peak higher than Hendry and Davis. But that may be because the tables have changed. The cloth is much thinner now and the balls lighter and more reactive. That makes a huge difference. During Davis's time, frames went on longer. It wasn't unusual to have matches at the world championship end until the early hours of the next morning. As a result the BBC and the WPBSA decided to let frames end faster by making the balls open up easier. Just watch Davis's 147 and how hard he had to hit the balls to get the same amount of screw-back and compare that to Ronnie's shots. It's a whole world of difference.
      Davis dominated the 80s and Hendry the 90s. Ronnie never dominated. But the question remains, what if you had another exceptional player come along in the 2010s, would Ronnie have got his 7th world title? I don't know. Probably not. But then again, he probably would have got there faster if he had a stable upbringing.
      It's hard to compare eras but taking everything into account, I believe my list is a fair one.

    It’s not the potting of the balls that is the hard bit, the hard but is controlling the cue ball and manoeuvring it exactly where you want it for the next shot. The first televised 147 was around 1983. Such was the tension that the referee stopped calling out the score once the 147 was becoming likely. Showmen like Ronnie O'Sullivan are still rare these days. His precursor from the 70's and 80's was the late Alex Higgins, a deeply troubled man, but unconventional to say the least. The co commentator was Dennis Taylor, who was in the 1985 world championship final that is etched in British sporting history.

    What is the standard size of a pool table?
    How to Choose the Right Pool Table Size for Your Room.
    8ft x 4ft so 32 square feet. A snooker table is 12ft x 6ft so 72 square feet.
    Standard Pool Table Sizes: A standard-size pool table is often used in homes, measuring 8ft x 4ft. The playing surface can be 88in x 44in, as well. The good thing about standard sizes is that they can be smaller and even custom-made, especially if you have limited space.2 Nov 2022
    At the 2022 Scottish Open, O'Sullivan scored a century in 3 minutes 34 seconds - just 3 seconds slower than the fastest televised century break, which was made by Tony Drago, from Malta in 1996.
    Additionally, O'Sullivan holds the record for the most 147 breaks to be completed during the final frame of a match. He has made a maximum in a final frame on six occasions, one of these in the deciding frame of his semi-final victory over Mark Selby at the 2007 UK Championship.

    155 is actually the highest break you can make in snooker, but would require a free ball at the start of the game with all balls still on the table. Not yet done in tournament play as far as I know, would be amazing to see done at some point!

    I played snooker 13 years I can’t play anymore. I have his picture of his 7th world title tying Stephen Henry. He’s is the goat of snooker he missed 10 years of not playing. Both of his parents went to jail and he had a drug and alcohol problem. Ronnie took care of his younger sister. I can only imagine what he could have accomplished missing those 10 years. What Ronnie O’Sullivan the Rocket 🚀 has done in the sport of snooker is sensational truly the KING!

    Ronnie made his first competitive 147 when he was 15. He was 21 in this video. Ronnie won his first World Championship aged 25 and his most recent (2022) aged 46, making him the oldest to take the title to date. A true legend of his chosen art. He is from an interesting family, his cousin Maria Catalano is a previous women's world number one (runner up in the World Championship five times), his mother spent a year in prison for tax evasion (Ronnie had to look after his eight year old sister) and his father had 18 years in prison for murder. Ronnie had issues with substance abuse early in his career. So, a colourful character with an eventful life.

  • @johnchristmas7522
    @johnchristmas7522 Před 15 dny

    Glad you liked it. The black ball or any colour ball comes back onto the table after its potted so long as there are still reds on the table. To get maximum break you need to pot all the reds with a black until the black comes for the last time, then you have to pot all the colours in sequence:- Yellow(2)Green(3)Brown(4)Blue(5) Pink(6) and finally the Black(7). Potting the balls is difficult because the table is 12feet long and 6feet wide and narrower pockets than a pool table. The most important ball, is the White in that after potting a ball, you need the white ball to be in a good position to pot the next ball. If you watch Ronnie again, you will see, he's always striving to get the white ball in the right position. Sometimes players miss a pot that looks easy but thats because they are cueing to try to get the white ball in the right place afterwards. Try for yourself a snooker table and see just how hard it is to pot a ball, let alone place the white afterwards! Then try to do a max break! You will then I think, realise, just how hard this game is, and just how special a 147 is especially in 5mins 38secs!

    The thing about Ronnie it seems is that it's not up to the opponent whether they win or not even today. It's how Ronnie is feeling . I think it's a case of if Ronnie wants to win he does . He can even play right of left handed just as well.
    You have no idea how hard it is to get 147 . You could play all day every day for your whole life and never even get close

    Yes the frame had already started by the other player. The 15 reds are in a triangle with the small end behind the pink ball.
    You pocket a red followed by a coloured ball [which gets replaced on the table until all reds have gone] then it follows in the coloured sequence: yellow/green/brown/blue/pink/black.

    You might missed the extra price money they have announced, 147000 Pounds for a maximum break... and if you had clicked on Ronnie O'Sullivan's name on the web page you opened, you would have seen that he's a pro since 1992 and only had 15 maximum breaks - that's HOW RARE they are.
    Enjoy many more snooker games, maybe watch a few games during the world champions or something, it's always nice to see and you learn the rules too. It's always one red followed by a colour that's placed back on the table until all red's are gone - for starters.

    Ronnie just missed out in the world semi-final a couple of weeks ago. Ronnie is equal best in the world, both he & Stephen Hendry have won the championship 7 times, only Stephen was a year younger than Ronnie when he first won it. Ronnie just missed out this by getting beaten in the semi-final. You must realize these championships consist of matches that are repeatedly up to 35 games each round, they play until one player gets too many games in front for their opponent to catch up. A very famous final years ago was won by the potting of the very last black ball of thirty five games. Denis Taylor beat Steve Davis by just that last ball of the tournament. The concentration it takes to play at that level for match after match is almost unbelievable, but that's what it takes to win.

    • @allanmanaged5285
      @allanmanaged5285 Před 19 dny +1

      Not really, they play until one player reaches (half of total possible frames +1) and so cannot be caught.
      So if it's a 35 frame match the first player to win 18 frames wins the match, so the score could be 17-17 or 17-0 before winner wins the next frame to make it 18-17 or 18-0 or any other score for the loser.

  • @MikeThomassen

    Great reaction :)
    First, the reds starts out in a triangle with the pink above them and the black below them.
    Second, as long as there are red balls on the table, the "coloured balls" (not red and white) will be taken back up to the table, as you must put a red followed by a "coloured ball", until there are no more red balls. The black ball gives you 7 points, and the pink gives you 6 points. That's why he uses the black to get to 147 points :)
    Third, he is not just the GOAT, he is just not world class, he has re-defined world class. He is "The Rocket" for a reason, he is without real comparrison the best of all time, and one of the best sports idols of European history.
    Ronnie O'Sullivan represents something different, something you don't really find many places in sport today. Snooker and Rugby has this. "Professional Situational Awareness" to such a degree that he defines an entire sport. Only very few people has ever done that, and he is the greatest of them all, for me :)

    In snooker you pot a red, worth one point, then a colored ball, worth between two (yellow) up to seven (black), then another red and another color repeatedly, until all 15 reds have gone. Then you pot the colors in order. Clearing all the balls with a free choice of color after each red is hard enough. It remains a dream for most amateur players. Getting the cue ball into a position to pot the black after every red, to get 147, is beyond mere mortals. Doing it in five minutes is just unreal.
    To put what Ronnie did in perspective, the highest break of any player in the snooker league I play in over the last 35 years was 118!

    • @fatroberto3012
      @fatroberto3012 Před 6 dny

      For the pool players out there, a snooker table playing area is 12 feet by six feet and the balls will not go in the pockets if they hit the rail (called a cushion in snooker) before they reach the pocket. The pockets are probably the biggest difference. They are cut round instead of straight and they are smaller. It is a little easier to pot balls in the center pockets than on an American pool table but MUCH harder to pot balls in the corner pockets.

    Ronnie is one of the greatest players of all time, yet he has one flaw. If something falls apart, he more than once had lost it completely. My humble point of view is he sometimes cannot accept him being just a human and therefore making mistakes. But that also makes him such a powerful player to pull off a maximum break in 5m8s. My guess is this will be a record even in 2097. I haven't seen any player else having such a well developed picture of a break like that, to know exactly where to have the cue ball, even 3 steps ahead. He knew where to play the ball to get it to a specific point on the table for the next red after this shot and the black in between.
    The endgame was a total standard procedure, all colors were on their spots, you just train for that year in year out. The real difficulty with that kind of playing style are the 15 reds and how to link them with the black ball in between. And doing that in such a speed was just unbelievable.
