      Eh, he took out a lot of walkers so I was not surprised

    • @miterbinnesdirty
      @miterbinnesdirty Před měsícem

      @gabrote42 Well, I (actually chatgpt) did the math for you since you weren't surprised. He started with 19 walkers, took out 4, boarded in 2, which is 17. Then he saw gideon jura, teferi hero, and jtms in his hand, and bottomed gideon trials from oath. That leaves 13 out of 48 cards left when he cast it. According to chatgpt:
      ""Deploy the Gatewatch" is a card that allows you to look at the top seven cards of your library and put up to two planeswalkers from among them onto the battlefield. To calculate the probability of "whiffing" (not finding any planeswalkers in those seven cards), we can use combinatorial probability.
      Here’s the step-by-step process:
      1. **Total Number of Cards in Deck (N):** 48
      2. **Number of Planeswalkers in Deck (K):** 13
      3. **Number of Cards Drawn (n):** 7
      We want to find the probability that none of the 7 cards drawn are planeswalkers. This can be computed using the hypergeometric distribution.
      The probability of drawing exactly \( k \) planeswalkers from \( n \) draws is given by the hypergeometric distribution:
      \[ P(X = k) = \frac{\binom{K}{k} \binom{N-K}{n-k}}{\binom{N}{n}} \]
      Where:
      - \( \binom{a}{b} \) is the binomial coefficient "a choose b".
      - \( N = 48 \) (total cards)
      - \( K = 13 \) (total planeswalkers)
      - \( n = 7 \) (cards drawn)
      - \( k = 0 \) (we want zero planeswalkers)
      Plugging in these values:
      1. **Total ways to draw 7 cards from 48:**
      \[ \binom{48}{7} \]
      2. **Ways to draw 7 non-planeswalker cards from the 35 non-planeswalkers (48 - 13 = 35):**
      \[ \binom{35}{7} \]
      3. **The probability is then:**
      \[ P(X = 0) = \frac{\binom{35}{7}}{\binom{48}{7}} \]
      Let's calculate these binomial coefficients:
      - \[ \binom{48}{7} = \frac{48!}{7!(48-7)!} = \frac{48!}{7!41!} \approx 4,923,421,620 \]
      - \[ \binom{35}{7} = \frac{35!}{7!(35-7)!} = \frac{35!}{7!28!} \approx 6,724,520 \]
      Therefore:
      \[ P(X = 0) = \frac{\binom{35}{7}}{\binom{48}{7}} = \frac{6,724,520}{4,923,421,620} \approx 0.00137 \]
      So, the probability of whiffing (not drawing any planeswalkers) when you play "Deploy the Gatewatch" is approximately 0.137%, or about 1 in 730."
      So his first cast being a 1/730 fail for not hitting a single walker is pretty dang unlikely.

    This feels like it could be Gideon Tribal... Take advantage of the fact that Gideon of the Trials combos with other Gideons - so Deploy the Gatewatch getting you multiple just makes his emblem better. It gives you better game against the unfair decks and a faster clock against fair ones. Nissa could be your other primary walker, as Nissa Voice of Zendikar used to team up with Gideon Ally of Zendikar in GW tokens. Saffron Olive did an Against the Odds with Gideons and Deification that went really well. It is sad that The One Ring has outclassed so many of these great Planeswalkers. I still think Elspeth's great - so maybe if there's a way to simplify the mana there's still room for some of the heavy hitters.

    Seeing 19 planeswalkers in this deck at the beginning made me a little iffy from the get go. Didn't coco decks run nearly 30 creatures to make sure it hit? 19 planeswalkers just seems like it would be too low to hit 2 planeswalkers consistantly. I wonder why the deck doesn't include wrenn and six, that seems like a perfect walker for this deck with a bit of an edit to the manabase.

    • @thekilla1234
      @thekilla1234 Před měsícem

      If you run it through a calculator at various deck sizes and already drawn planeswalkers when you cast Deploy, You come out at about 65-70% chance to hit 2, and 93-95% to hit 1. So you do hit 2 planeswalkers more than 2 in every 3 casts, and you almost never miss completely. These are pretty reasonable odds.
      That said, adding a couple more does improve those odds by about 8% for 2 planeswalkers, and 2% for missing, so it's not nothing. Any planeswalker you add replaces a card that is in the deck to help you get to 6 mana reliably, so adding more does improve Deploy consistency, but may reduce overall deck consistency if you aren't careful. Due to how reasonable the odds already are, you have to be careful replacing cards for more planeswalkers because it might increase Deploy hit rate but actually reduce deck win rate.

    • @GabrielHooper
      @GabrielHooper Před měsícem

      @@thekilla1234 Thats the problem though, right? I don't want my card that's supposed to hit two walkers to do it 70% of the time if it costs 6 mana, and I really don't want a 1/20 chance that my card actually does nothing. I also am under the impression that I don't want to spend 6 mana and get ~5 mana value worth of a random planeswalker rather than just cast the planeswalker itself. I also agree at the tension of having walkers vs cards that interact with the boardstate being a major problem too. I love the card deploy the gatewatch, I just think it has too many problems when you finally build the deck to do the thing.

      Someone paid me to see their deck and I put in the same time and effort to review the deck, record the games, edit the video, make a description and thumbnail, etc to make this as I do leagues that happen to go better. I don't know how your job works, but I've never been in any position during any part of my life where I'd say "You know what boss, don't pay me for today's full day of work, maybe tomorrow will go better."
      Nobody is more disappointed than me when a league doesn't go well. There's so many more factors at play for me determining what's "worth" posting. The time I took to make this makes it. My responsibility to the person who sent the deck. My responsibility to my sponsors who pay me to release a video every day.
      Plus, read the other comments. "Hope to see this in Legacy next!" " RAAAH SUPERFRIENDS!!!" "Another banger for me to drift to sleep to!" etc
