    I've watched this 4 times now, I think I'm ready to start tailoring some of my overly huge concert t-shirts now. My mom passed earlier this year and she created sewing and quilting crafts for decades. I've been teaching myself to sew to honor her life. I repaired a ripped patio umbrella with the sewing machine, and now I want to move onto tailoring my t-shirts!

    4 years later, and im so thankful I found this video. I've never sewn or altered a single thing in my entire life, but im a 6'3, skinny guy, and im beyond fed up with all my clothes not fitting me. I have a closet full of tshirts I like, but most of them are too baggy on me, and I feel like baggy clothes are a bad look for my frame. I thought about taking my stuff into an alteration shop, but I'm not exactly working with a 6 figure income, so I decided to give it a shot. I've watched a few other videos, but yours is by far the best one, with the best technique, that I've found. Thank you!! You make it look so simple. Hopefully I won't completely wreck all the shirts in my closet 😂😂😂

    My only question is how will this hold up, without an overlock stitch? And is there any way to mimic the overlock stitch on a traditional sewing machine?

    • @SewAnastasia

      Knit jersey does not fray so it will hold up good. You can serge with a home sewing machine like this.... Watch this video...czcams.com/video/CUrIKH9U-xQ/video.html

    Do you need to have a special needle attached for stretch fabrics like t-shits? I’ve tried sewing these fabrics with regular needles and it ends up looking puckered (if that makes sense) and tends to curve the fabric in a particular direction. Thanks.

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  Před 2 lety +2

      Try using a ball point needle. They are for knit fabrics. Also try using a narrow zig zag stitch or maybe adjust your tension. Hope that helps!

    Ok prob dumb question but how the heck do i get the shirt off the dress form after pinning? Does it mean you pinned it too tight if you cant get if off without losing pins? Does the direction you put the pins in matter? like ball tip pointing up?

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  Před 2 lety +1

      You probably have it pinned too tight for the kind of fabric it is. If you can not get it off the dress form you will not be able to put it on yourself. Happy sewing. Hope you got this worked out.

    What if the shoulders are a size too large? Would you remove the sleeves and reduce the armholes? Would you make a video of this?

    • @dale3404
      @dale3404 Před rokem

      I’m pear-shaped so have this problem with most RTW. I remove the sleeves and re-cut them to better fit my arm, leaving the hem intact. I shorten the shoulder seam to fit me. This leaves the armscye too large for the sleeve. I make a “dart” from the armscye to the hem (wide hips) to match the sleeve. You can sew this seam so that it goes in a bit at the waist for a more flattering fit. I hope this makes sense. Good luck.

  • @animefangirl3700
    @animefangirl3700 Před rokem +2

    So, what if you don't wanna get rid of the excess? I want it to resizable back to it's original size so other's can just pull out the stitches where they need to? If that makes sense?

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  Před rokem

      Then I wouldn’t cut off the extra but I would not take in the sleeves. I would blend the stitch into the armhole so you do not get bunching.

  • @BrianaLynn7
    @BrianaLynn7 Před 4 lety +1

    Can anyone help me find a video or an idea to take in a shirt but leave the leaves and the bottom baggy but just cinch at the waist? All the cinch at the waist videos I see are turning it into a crop top. I'm plus size and in order to get something that fits i have to buy up, but then it is just baggy. I always pinch the waist at the sides and like how that looks better but I can't figure out how to easily do this.

    • @danas986
      @danas986 Před 3 lety +1

      I know this is a year old comment but what I usually do is put the shirt on me then pin at my waist further than at the sides so it creates a curve around the waist rather than a straight line like in the video. Hope that helps!
