      They’re great scrappers that’s for sure. Good fun to target when the other species are hard to come by.

    The wrasse are a pretty fish, they were a nice size you landed. They say they are not a real good eating fish. I guess you would eat anything if you are hungry enough. No shortage of fish to choose from there. Here in Australia I never fished over boulders like you do there. Lose too much gear. I enjoy your videos Cal, keep them coming.

      Yeah some wrasse have beautiful colours on them. The bigger ones put up a great fight too. Yeah the ground is very rough where I’m fishing in this video, that’s the reason for a Texas rig. A drop shot rig would work well too. You’ll lose less gear that way.

    What would we do without the wrasse!! Water temperature defo on the rise, nearly wet in for a dip! This weather is great, but the northerly’s have made the water gin clear here in Dorset. But there been a worse problem this bank holiday…..tourists!!😂 Rods out again next week 😉
    Cheers mate, great zoom footage of you bending into them!!

      Thanks mate. Yeah the weather has been nice but I agree about the wind. We’ve had north easterlies for weeks now and that’ll continue for the next couple of weeks too. Bloody nightmare. A lot of the fair weather fisherman are showing up over here now too, gotta be a bit more stealth with spot choice.

    You should try the free rig. It has worked great for me when using smaller creature baits.

    Another great little vid to watch whilst I await my next holiday be the sea. Why do we never see anyone catch and cook Wrasse ? What’s wrong with them for the plate ?

    • @samueltoogood4704
      @samueltoogood4704 Před rokem

      Wrasse are edible with nice firm white flesh. However, they are a very slow growing species so it's not recommended to take them.

    Hey great video, just a question is that a bead or small weight above the lure for the wrasse on the first one cheers

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  Před měsícem +1

      @@rickelliott-jh9fb hello mate. When I make Texas rigs I always tend to add a small bead in between the hook and the bullet weight. It’s purely to protect the knot that connects the hook to the leader. When bouncing the lure about, the weight will put a lot of tension on the knot, therefore, the bead comes in handy.

    Cal great video. I'm new to wrassing but hand lure fished for bass etc for years. I haven't watched the whole video yet but would you normally start on a 18 gram weight especially in such shallow rough ground? I've always looked to fish as lightly as i can. Hope you don't mind the ask cheers Jon

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  Před 3 měsíci

      It all depends on where I’m fishing for them and how snaggy/shallow it is. Sometimes I go down to a 5g bullet weight and other times I’ll use up to 30g.
